300Gt Performance Upgrades

Hey,

I did a little searching and there's is a thread out there but I need some specific questions answered :)

I own a 2004 300gt and I realized it's lost quite a bit of power, my friends Accord Euro CU2 pulls faster than my 300gt, we tried a little 0-100 test and seem to be getting 8-9 seconds with the aircon and speakers shut off (which should be around 7-7.5).

Are there any specific aftermarket parts that I should be looking at?

At the moment here's what I got in mind for future performance mods:

-Fujitsubo Cat Back

-Motordyne Iso-Thermal Plenum Spacer

-JWT Pop charger w/350z intake

-Unorthodox Racing Pulley Underdrive

-Transgo Shift Kit

-Stillen Grounding Kit

Had a look at the DC Sports headers but I'm not too sure if they would fit onto my VQ30DD

Could my current straight pipe axle back (I think) make me lose power?

Or just the fact that I haven't had a chance to clean my plenum yet?

If someone could shed some light on this for me that would be great.

Is your engine stock at the moment?

Are you also aware the Fujitsubo is one of the quietest exhausts you can buy?

In regards to the MD spacer, i personally would prefer the Kinetix V+ plenum. You can pick one up for about $300 delivered and it replaces the upper plenum. It is something like 270% more heat resistant than the stock plenum and improves flow to the front 2 cylinders that the OEM plenum restricts. Giving you LESS low end power but MORE high end power. Damian on this forum has just installed his and can also explain to you how he can feel the extra power- i have my Kinetix V+ sitting in my garage but i'm not putting it on yet.

JWT charger with 350z intake is a great idea, it's proven to have more of a power increase than a CAI for the fact that the plastic intake is heat resistant rather than a aluminium intake will gather heat.

Transgo shift kit for an automatic is a great idea I have heard really good things about it, one of my mates with an auto 350gt is about to do his.

Grounding kit again a good idea.

No idea why your losing power, how long have you had the car for? and have you noticed that it is getting slower?

have you considered a full service to spec ? i.e. new spark plugs (when was the last time you changed them if you have changed them) check them for incorrect gaps in the electrode and corrosion or carbon residue

2 - Check your throttle body for build-up gunk and carbon as that can actually become sticky and slow down ur throttle body from opening fast

3 - Check the injectors as these can get filled up with crap from the petrol tank. and it will push less petrol then needed

4 - check oil viscosity and if it looks sludgy an thick then you may need to give it a clean ( getting a qualified mechanic to do this will be expensive but a proper reconditoning will make it like new)

there are a few products that say they can clean the engine before service that you add in the old oil and drive for a few min before service and oil replacement but i would be weary as they can cause engine wear and possibly more bad than good.

4 - When you have your service done do you have the fluids especially oils flushed and replaced or just the common drain and replace. i won’t go into the benefits of a full flush before new oil but its stuff like this that with time will eat up on ur power.

5 - i find that usually the maintenance kept on the car including previous owners can affect the performance more than you think

Also good thing to keep in mind the V series skylines are quite heavy and last time i checked the Accord euro was quite a bit lighter so depending on weight and age of the car the accord may have more power to weight than an older v35 but like i said this depends allot on the maintenance

i have seen a v35 pushing barely 100kw on the dino before service and a healthy 180kw after. and yes the engine inside was full of gunk from oil that was left to long and not flushed propperly. the mechanic had to plug it in a special machine and flush it as high presure with a cleaning product and then new oil , new spark plugs , and new injectors as 2 of the old ones were almost useless.

Originally I was looking at the Skunk2 spacer but I did a bit of searching in g35driver and most of them would choose the MotorDyne over the Skunk2, haven't looked at the Kinetix one yet.

I've had the car for about 2 months now, haven't really noticed if it's getting slower. Although this is the fastest car I've driven it definitely does not feel like 130kw-150kw at the wheels stock.

Only things that have been modified on this car is (besides lights etc):

-19x8.5 Rims w/ 245/35/R19 tires

-Straight pipe running from the middle exhaust to the back done at 'Mr Muffler' (that was what I was told by the previous owner)

Compared to other exhausts it's probably the most quiet exhaust, some people like that though, look into the Kinetix V+ plenum its meant to give +15hp i think it is.

Maybe there's no problem at all if you haven't noticed that the car has gotten slower, it could just be the power that it has. My V35 is the fastest car i've owned by a long shot, i hit 60 in town so fast i have to be careful.

I was about to bring the car down to RevZone and get it inspected by them. I haven't serviced this car since I bought it yet, next service is due at 79,000kms (Currently at 72,000kms) so I have no clue how's this car been service other than the car been serviced every 10,000kms by Nuwan @ IRev Imports.

I went to speak with Nuwan and he told me not to touch the throttle body because it would cause problems with the car and I would of have to get him to fix it lol

Basically nothings been done since I've purchased this car 2 months ago, the previous owner got the car serviced on the day I purchased the car.

The Accord Euro is actually heavier than the 300GT, I think it was 1.6t? while the 300GT around 1.55t

Just feels like there's a lot more power in there somewhere haha

Your Correct. It will have no-where near that. Infact, I think it'd be closer to the 100-110kw mark on the dyno that I use. Put it this way- My Stock NA VQ35de put out 130awkw.

Now while you are rwd, you have the middle child version. So I don't think you'll be pulling 150rwkw, not even on the most optimistic of dynos.

Best thing you can do is pull apart and clean all of the intake system right down to the heads, including the TB. Sounds like your Friend Nuwan doesn't know too much about these cars, or else he'd know about the issues they have fouling the intake system. Sort it out, treat it to a new set of plugs and then see how it feels.

If still no good - VQ30DET

Really? I thought the 350GT were 170awkw stock.

How hard is it to strip down those parts and give them a good clean? Anything I should be careful of? Any recommended plugs?

Still new and learning about cars, so pretty clueless at the moment.

First of all, I'm not very optimistic about power- its just too easy to please the customer by adjusting the dyno to suit. Dynos are comparative tools for your car, and not other peoples cars.

Now, grab a beer/wine/coffee, and sit down and have a long read through this thread- don't be a bish and skip straight to the pictures... wait it out. This is why you clean it up...

anyways gonna give it a go tomorrow morning and clean the plenum, intake etc.

Don't wanna dig too deep, not too confident in myself

Cleaned the throttle body yesterday and having high rpm issues on start up, roughly 2000 then drops to 800 and bounces up to 1400 and back down to 650, also random rpm spikes when foot is off the accel while driving, going to try the relearn process soon.

Can anybody confirm if the crank pulley in this combo will fit on my VQ30DD?

Having trouble finding the recommended spark plug for my 300GT 'NGK LFR5AQP'

However the 'LFR5AIX-11' is available on CZP but their not recommended for the 300GT.. but the 250GT and 350GT uses this spark plug..

This is driving me nuts! Too less info on the 300GT :(

Nvm, confirmed with CZP that the pulley should fit, gotta have a look at the headers now

Got a quote for the Fujitsubo full cat back + Fujitsubo Y-Pipe $2000 shipped..

Are there any other alternatives that gives the same/better performance and sound just as good?

However the 'LFR5AIX-11' is available on CZP but their not recommended for the 300GT.. but the 250GT and 350GT uses this spark plug..

This is driving me nuts! Too less info on the 300GT :(

Yep, hahaha, but if I have no luck finding it then i guess that's what I have to do

Spacer, crank pulley, JWT popcharger and z-tube came in today! going to put on the spacer and intake soon. Any clue how much shops will charge me to put on the pulley?

The engine is an rb25/30 and main concern is  that It will be a daily car and will probably see a fair bit of short distance driving, have been told by my machine shop and my tuner that generally a forged engine lasts around 40,000kms before needing a rebuild.     • From now on read it as minus 5 and minus 7 instead of dash, and you're correct...
    • Opened up the cluster to inspect the gauge itself for signs of damage and it looks good. Got curious since that needle doesn't go back to a "neutral" position by itself (it stays in the same position when ignition is off. so I manually moved it to 1/2. Connected it back, turned on the ignition and the needle started moving up! Not sure what's up with that but before that the needle was way down below empty like fully south west. There's always a chance that the needle moved slightly the first time I tried and I didn't notice because of how slowly it moves and how far it was from the markings. I don't know if the current needle position is accurate so I'll fill it up and see where that brings it. I guess I'll try to adjust it manually if it doesn't get to F. Looks like the needle position is relative and not absolute? Thanks all for your help and patience!
