if i ran the mines ecu with octane booster would that help in the mean time before i get an new ecu

Some octane boosters generally do bugger all, check this link for the ones to avoid: http://www.elanfactory.com.au/pdf/technical_information/Octane%20booster.pdf

The best way to help in the mean time, is not to drive it hard. It's that easy.

hahaahahha wish i saw that, car became totally unusable 5 mins after putting the octane booster in, im getting it towed to advan perfomance center today, getting my self a LINK storm :):) get rid of the mines ecu

oh shit. random! Never known the octane boosters to do that. UNless it finished off a plug on the way out or something...

Also just to be warned, if you have driven that car hard and felt the way it responds under full throttle and builds power- you will probably find that it wont feel as good as that after having a tune done. Mines ecu's are so aggressive that they make the car feel awesome. The tune you get will be alot safer on your motor and therefore the car is likely to not feel as responsive or build boost/power as quickly.

The tuner may however feel that you can raise your boost and outright power so you may be lucky in that regard and indeed find more top end power to be had as a result.

Good luck and let us know how you go mate.

Good stuff, you won't be disappointed :D

To backtrack a few posts....my experience with United 100 was that it felt approximately the same as running BP98, but used noticably more juice and therefore cost a bit more to run. Therefore I decided no benefit.

An important point about octane and ignition timing and power is that an engine will make more power the closer to the detonation threshold it is run. If you increase the fuel octane and therefore take the operating point further away from the detonation threshold, you can reasonably expect to make slightly less power. It's the same old thing over again. Safety vs power. More of one equals less of the other.

Yeah I was so shocked when I drove it, only on stock boost it felt soo responsive and pulled so hard, I guess I'll hAve to compensate by turning the boost up :)

Very interesting. I noticed no difference in economy.

A mate in an EVO tells me he gets another 40kms to a tank (it's his daily and takes the same route to work 5 days a week).

And you say it's worse.

Could perhaps be tune related on all 3 accounts?

I could also dump in a few more degrees of timing using 100 if i really wanted. Although seat of the pants i couldn't really see much different from +2

It could easily come down to how good the tune/management is and how the car is driven too. My regular drive is fairly stop start in traffic, so my consumption is dominated by that aspect of the drive. If someone else has more of a freeway drive, they may get a completely different result. More closed loop running vs less, more opportunity for the ECU to wind in a bit more timing whilst cruising (if the ECU is clever enough, which the Nissan ones aren't really, but I think the EVO ones are).

That experience was with my RB20 though. Haven't tried it with the Neo yet.

    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
    • Thank you so much for the help
    • Yes it is ATF. I quote @Duncan "it takes a good synthentic auto trans fluid like Castrol Transmax Z" It's not a diff. It's a transfer case. Totally different thing. Yes, fluid will come out the sender hole. No you do not really need to drain it. Just pull the old, quickly poke the new, clean up and top up. But realistically, you should probably take the opportunity to change it anyway.
    • Hey all. I’m looking on replacing my speed sensor on my R33 GTR. Will the center differential need to be drained, and if so, the center diff uses ATF fluid D? I found information on the transmission, front diff and rear diff. Can’t find a for sure answer for the center diff. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
