Thinking of trying to find a pair for my 1995 Series 1 R33 GTR...

Are they a straight swap? whats involved in swapping them over?

Has anyone done it?

Physically do they fit the same as normal Series 1 headlights?

What about wiring?

thanks

Ferni, installed xenons on my series 1 GTR, they are a straight fit, but the wiring connector needs to be modified.

Basically you have to shim the tabs off the connector for it to plug in, then PRESTO!!!!

Allow for a couple hours work, you have to almost take the bar off to get to bolts under the headlight, and to take the bar off, you have to take the lip off....

JagR33 - thanks, do you mind if i ask how much you paid for your Xenons and how much you think i should be paying approx?

When you say i have to shim the tabs off the connecter? what do you mean exactly?

Did you do it yourself?

I paid ALOT!!! They were brand new and paid $2.5k....

Second hand ones still hold their value, so expect to pay close to $2k...

If your getting s/h ones make sure you see them cause the glass tends to fade, not to mention cracked/scratched from driving....

Shim off the tabs with a file, after all they're plastic and don't allow the plug to connect into the headlight plug... very easy, you'll work it out once your about to install them...

I did do this myself, just alow for a lot of time and patience!!!!!!

Cheers

I has looking up the hella catalog the other day at work and found a H4 xenon bulb conversion kit.... they had like 2x 35 watt globes in there and a special plug, maybe us GTST owners that cant afford the real deal should look at these?

Sumo

I've just put 8000k HID in my GTST. it's bloody bright and white.

that's what I find on the net:

"HID Lighting System HID Lamp stands for High Intensity Discharge Lamp The HID Lamp is a system that produces light by putting Xenon gas and metal halide salts into the light emitting tube installed inside the HID Lamp."

So I think they are the same.

bigpimpin_kairastyle:

my friend have the HID conversion kit for H1 which fit the skyline. But have to modified the back of the light box a bit to fit in since it's not ideal for xenon light.

ferni:

H1 Xenon bulb I'm using and I think the conversion kit can't be use to the normal light for sure.

the conversion kit is use to convert the voltage from 12V to 23kV, which is 23000V. how can a normal light bulb can afford that voltage.

Since both of U in VIC, I don't mind U can come and have a look how bright it is and the modified of the light box. PM me.

8000k is to high, takes away some colours to make it look blue/purple...

I really want factory GTR xenon lights.... anyone know where to get them from brand new or how much they are?

or anyone know of any being sold in excellent condition?

I agree it get worse if the rating like 10000k or 13000k. looks purple-white.

but 8000k, that's what I want for diamond-white light beam.

Those Audi, BMW, Benz, Honda Accord all using 4500k Xenon. I don't think that's a waste.

search their forum, and U will find ppl want to change their original Xenon to higher rating one.

If U spent money on the Xenon lights, I prefer to get a 6500k or 8000k instead of 4500k.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
