Can anyone recommend a place for a cheap headlight ballast replacement? New or used?

The car is a 2003 V35 but has after market headlights. Although I think this is a standard ballast? Drivers side if that matters.

Pics attached, any info would be greatly appreciated :)

Hey Matt,

So you have HID's right?

http://www.ebay.com....=item53eeab1e3b

That's pretty expensive though just for 1 ballast when you can buy this full HID conversion kit for $169 that has 2 ballasts

Thanks for the quick reply mate. I was hoping to get something local 2nd hand to save a bit of money but I'm not sure if that's going to happen.

Pretty sure they are HID lights, just bought D2S 5000k bulbs thinking that one of mine was blown but it turns out it is the ballast from what I can tell. There is power going into it but not coming out the other side.

I actually just came across the below ballast which should work for me? Although I may need to stuff around with the wiring a little bit and leave the old ones in there to seal the lights.

Hmm, i have never seen one of those before.. No doubt an electrical guru will comment pretty soon though :)

that DDM one will not fit the headlight, it will then need to have the neg and positive wired to the battery, so it can work but not oem...

The first link is also not OEM but will fit much better than the 2nd link

PM replied mate, if anyone else has a stock ballast they want to get rid of please PM me.

Ill have some OEM ballasts of a sedan soon. Wont have the globes tho because im doing a stag nose and the Hid globes are cracked. But i dont know how to pull them apart so ill just send you the whole light if your keen?

hi all, i would like to know how do i check whether my v35 has HID or not, i dont seem to be able to locate the ballast anywhere under the bonnet. but low beam is crystal white (just like a HID), and high beam/ driving is yellow as standard.

now im planning to get a HID KIT, i would like to know where can i get the best HID kit possible. 35w vs 55w ? which should i choose? and how do i check if v35 uses canbus system or not ?

I believe all of our cars are manufactured with HID's but they should have been removed and replaced with xenon halogens on compliance (but some people have been lucky and got away with it) the ballast would of either been kept in the car with the wires cut or completely removed. So in saying that, you should be able to slap a HID ballast in there and connect some bulbs without and dramas. I found a good kit for about $165 but its not OEM http://www.nlmotorin...onex-hid-h1.htm

If you have a 'crystal white' light on low beam, chances are the low beam HIDs were not removed at compliance. it is possible to get halogen lamps with a blue coating on the glass to make them look 'white' or even 'bluish'. The easiest way to tell is HIDs will be a little dull when you first turn them on, then brighten up after a few seconds.. Halogens come on at full brightness instantly.

to replace the high beam/fog light properly, you would need a H4 Bixenon HID kit. Unless you want to ditch the fog lights and just have a high beam.

Our cars do have canbus, but I can't see why there would be any difference with HID kits, as the BCM drives a relay, and the relay powers the headlights.

    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
    • Manual boost controllers (where a little of the boost was bled off) were quite common back in the day, because they were cheap and easy. Generally they had a manual adjustment screw rather than being fixed like yours. Down side is they always bleed boost, not just when you want them to so an electronic boost controller that uses a solenoid will have less lag.
    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful
