Hey guys,

Good afternoon to you all. I've finally decided to sell my Honda Civic Type R for a turbo car as mentioned in the topic title. Been to the track a couple of times but my cornering is still not good yet. So do you guys think it'll be good to jump over to a gtr and continue with track work or should i stick to my honda till i perfect my skills. Maybe alot of you must be thinking what a rich kid getting a gtr to thrash. No, I've saved up quite a bit because my childhood dream is of course like most a r34 gtr but I guess I can take it slow and slowly work my way up to that car. It's just that opportunity came and I dont want to lose it. I considered a silvia s15 or a r34 gtt. but too many people tell me, too many many people tell me if you want a skyline go for a gtr. the amount of money spent on mods can buy you a gtr. Not being offensive to gts-t and gt-t owners out there because a good friend of mine has a nicely build r34 gt-t and salute to him. After all I feel a car is for one's own comfort and liking otherwise the arguments will be endless. lol. but i read quite a bit that r33 gtr has a lot of understeer and how do i counter it via mods?

GTR's understeer. You counter it by running stupid amounts of neg camber on the front & a rear anti roll bar made out of scaffold tube. Even after that they still understeer.

There good cars, just remember they are a ageing model and the most of the motors have being stressed so more often than not a few dollars can be spend on maintenance. Keeping it as a weekend or track car is a great idea, using them as a daily tends to cause a few more issues. Value for buck you can't beat a GT-R in terms of performance, just shop around and get a straight one, general things like checking the compression, chassis, leak down tests and general inspection by a independent workshop are some good starting points when shopping for one.

yeah mate. that leads me to think that a R34 GT-T is also a pretty much impressive car. Yes I know it's a RWD and also there's less computers to manage every bit of the car. But what I'm thinking of is a daily warrior and also the occasional track days. BUT! I don't understand why so many people are against the idea of a GT-T. I mean in every sense, it's a pretty decent car to use on the streets (gets you from one traffic light to the other faster) haha. Oh wells.

Either way get rid of the Honda ASAP

I've had both... and currently drive my wife's 34gtt around now.

The 34gtt when i had was WAY less maintenance, still fun to drive.

The 33gtr I had was insane... I loved the car, I miss that car... It certainly leaves an impression of a GTR on you...

If you're willing to part with the cash in maintenance then go for the GTR. However as it was said earlier, the engines are getting a bit worn out from people thrashing them. I remember the compression test on mine wasn't TOO bad, but one of the cylinders was on the low end of good.

Just get all the tests done if you want a good one, and have a nice buffer of cash to take care of it's high maintenance cost :P

No offense to anyone, and i've yet to actually drive a GTR. I couldnt think of a more boring car to take to the track, unless its had alot of money sunk into it. You could buy several R32 GTS-t's for the price of a S3 R33 GTR, and being RWD you would learn properly how to handle and corner around a track. Just my 2 cents :)

Zehffro: FWIW I have S3 R33 GTR and would not consider it for a daily unless I had easy (wide) parking at work. I am a sook and the thought of car park damage on the soft ali panels and door scrapes are too much for me. The doors are long and need to open wide to get out of non-standard deep buckets, the car is a bitch to see out of in heavy traffic and in my case the car is too low for comfort (legal, but only just) so curbs and ramps in/out of some spots need to be carefully managed or the deep S3 lip takes a beating and they are exxy to replace. But on the upside they are a lot of fun to drive if you can ignore the the things I mentioned but expect attention from Falcadoor wannabes (all the time) and the Po (if you get silly). The other plus is when you can get to the track you will start to understand why they are so well regarded as a great production performance car. ;)

If i had the capital to invest in a r35 why not, who wouldn't anyways unless the person has got a greater passion for the earlier models. We can't compare it this way. it's more of a personal preference rather than what car with what mods will bring you how far. buddy, we will end up with a never ending argument if we compare it that way. and then again, i feel power isn't everything. skills is what that counts on the track and power is just a plus for the straights.

WRRR: I feel you mate. Let's not mention about GTRs or the more expensive cars. Even a dent on the door on my 96 civic hatch or a slight bump beneath cos it's too low just leaves me in a fluster. and seriously, those idiots who can't open doors without slamming into the car beside, they ought to burn. i guess because i'm not working and i seldom use the car, a 33 gtr will be good for night drives or late night food hunting. only thing that stops me considering the r34 gtt is that the 33gtr is an awd and the other isn't. can't wait to own a skyline. im getting all hyped up just thinking about it.

haha mate i get what you mean! indeed the gtrs are pocket burners. i'm still keeping my option open between these both until i find one thats all good and value for the price i get. may be going down to Marlyn Autos and around wangara this coming week to view a few new 34gtts in stock. until then, i will decide (:

    • I havent bought a manual cover for the dash yet and no cluster change, won't bother me too much, I just need to get that auto box gone, manual in! I miss my manual. 🤪. We started last weekend and managed to get the box out. Planning to start putting it in this weekend and then order a single piece tail. We were super careful to take time and not damage anything. It's my first time working under the car.  With my S15 mainly worked in the bay. This time, it was a headache because of three or four bolts only. They simply didnt want to leave thei homr and the one securing the tailshaft, another above the GB, and the one securing the lipstick was a shit. Mates mate, Davo caught fire 🤣, nearly opened his chest up with a grinder 🤦🏽‍♂️ and both mates nearly had a plate from the box land and slit their head open. Fun times. We all survived. Not the easiest working with limited access on jackstands. As I'm sure we can agree these are the memories which make us love our car. For all three of us, was an awesome weekend and Sunday 3.30am before tools down was a fantastic effort. I need to upload pics, but looks like it needs to be via Url now. We used to be able to just upload pics back in the day. It's been that long! 🤪 Im currently spraying rustoleum under body, not because it's rusted. It's super clean, but just so it's protected for the next 10 years. There was a few surface rust spots. Which pretty much wiped off with a 3M scourer.  Really impressed with how well the previous owner maintained it. Bank account went down so quick! Service, then GB - managed to get a spanking new 34 genuine box from Nissan. All the rest of the conversion parts from Kudos.  Went with a Nismo short shifter. New pedals and Exedy Clutch and FW. Ordered the Prp Rear Main Retainer kit which should arrive Friday and my first engine mod part just like I did with my S15 will be the Tomei Expreme Turbo Outlet. Already on order. It'll likely sleep next to me on a pillow during the coming months. 🥰 Last build was on my JET200GT profile and on SAU and Hardtuned I had documented the build. Planning to try to do that again. Brands feel scarce now. Wish we still had ARC and Apexi parts readily available. Exhaust - need some advice on this. I had an Apexi exhaust on the S15 and loved the tone. My mate had a HKS HP Silent on his 33 and suggested I go with that to avoid drone. I can't remember hearing an RB25DET running that so will likely need to wait for a meet or something to hear it.  Not after big power, just enjoy building it, and drivability with minimal negative attention.

    • Finally got shipping number for the intake and throttle body, shipped by UPS, so "should" be in my hands sometime next week, fingers fracking crossed
    • I'm so far behind in the jobs I have to do at both work and home (including car) that I have become immortal. There's simply no way that I can die now.
