Hello SAUACT,

Me and my two imports will be moving to Canberra early next year and I’m trying to work out what to do about rego/licence.

Am I better off keeping my NSW rego and Licence (I will still have a valid NSW residence) or should I transfer everything to ACT? I've already looked and it seems like rego costs will be about the same either way and insurance won’t change too much.

My main concerns are how strict are ACT police/laws for mods/defects vs NSW and how much trouble will it be to change everything over? And If I do change to ACT rego and I get pulled into a defect station in NSW what’s the go?

I've got an 180SX daily and a 300+kW Autech 260RS, I haven't had any trouble in NSW yet but I don't drive like a jerk.

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated and maybe I'll see some of you at a meet some time.

ACT is generally more mod friendly. You just need to pass that first inspection coming into the ACT.

Never had an issue with either ACT or NSW, but I've also never seen an EPA stop either. Should not have many issues with a volvo wagon :)

Yeah I did get the impression that the ACT was a bit more mod friendly. General i've found ACT police to be much nicer than their NSW colleagues.

The Volvo wagon disguise i probably wearing a little thin in the cars current shape- Low, GTR rims, Loud exhaust + the Autech bits, body kit, brembos, FMIC etc.

The engine bay if full of pollished piping but the pods are enclosed.

Hmm... How tight is the inital inspection? Mods list below includes a lot of things an inspection shouldn't uncover but also a lot of things that "should" fail in NSW

Autech S15 seats

R34 GTR wheel

Lowered springs on standard struts

M35 steering wheel

Freeway dolphin gauge pod on dash

R34 GTR turbos

Nismo 555cc injectors,

Walbro fuel pump

Power FC

AVCR mounted on steering column

Z32s

Greddy suction kit and cold air box with factory snorkel

HKS 264 deg cams

HKS cam gears

HKS hard piping kit

Yoshida Garage custom ported head and port matched exhaust manifolds

Greddy extended split dumps and front pipe

Fujitsubo Cat back

"High flow" cat

N1 oil and water pumps

Greddy oil cooler kit

Turbosmart BOVs

It all depends where you take it... If you have to take it to the pits they might be a pain they might not. If you only have to take it to an ACT approved inspector i highly doubt you will fail. I had my GTR pass easy. If you can take it to an ACT approved place try to find somewhere that doesn't deal with modified cars much. I have found that they just make sure its high enough, check the lights and make sure no leaks. Then you are good to go.

But like i said i can't remember if you will have to take it over the pits... ask verms he did just move is Autech stagea across. I know he gets his done at Ultimate tunes and they where pretty good. I used to take the GTR to capital automotive in fyshwick as the guy that runs the place is pretty good.

p.s that does sound like a nice stagea.

Most likely get picked for the stuff I marked in red.

Try hide it and get your ride at the legal ride height.

Mainly too low, too loud stuff.

So unplug the AVC-R, the P-FC is behind the kick pannel so that should be fine and the BOVs are actually plumb back mounted in stock location.

I've got plans to get some coilovers as i'm not happy with the ride on the stock struts so i'll just set them above 100mm when that happens.

I'll try to borrow a dB meter so i can work out if i need to do anything with the exhaust.

Sweet!

Thanks everyone for the help with this

The power fc shouldnt be an issue and let me know if i can assist in anything as my car is nearly stock with a few modifications.

I still have the standard ecu if thats an issue! let me know when your in the state and well meet up!

Thanks everyone for the offers of stock parts. I move down in January but the cars are registered in NSW till the middle of the year. So i think i'll tidy the cars up and take them for inspections asap and then i have plenty of time to sort the cars out if the fail.

We've got a dB meter and emissions tester at work so i'll try to borrow the dB for a weekend.

Yes M35 steering wheel, heaps cheaper than a replacement stock one/GTR wheels and much nicer/legal than the Personal deap dish wheel that was on the car, it pretty much goes straight on. The clock spring just needs a little foreplay/dirty talk to make it fit.

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
