Hey guys,

I'm just after some information on the sau deca events. Like how many events are they and what do you actually do in theses events as I'm very new to these event things and really keen on getting out there.

Any info would be much appreciated cause I'm very confused on what you actuall do

Thanks

Hey Rob,

Deca (held at Deca Shepparton) is a event SAU do 4 times a year.

Its a whole day event, 50 entrants max

Field is split into 2 groups of 25

Morning consists of Skidpan and Sprints

Skidpan...

2 cone layouts on the skidpan, you have 2 attempts at going the fastest around each layout

Sprints...

2 sprint sections, basic point A to point B, you get 1x 80%/sighting run and 2x timed runs at each sprint

Break for lunch

Afternoon is all on the skidpan

The skidpan is is split in 2 and we have tandem battles, 2 cone layouts

Theres a identical cone layout per side, race a mate to see whos quicker haha

If theres time at the end of the day then we do same battle theme but if you loose then your knockout

hopes this helps out

Thanks heaps jake/mike.. Can anyone come eg, some one who's never done anything like this before?

Sounds like an awesome day.

Thanks Martin link is very helpful....

To enter you need a sau membership, how do I get one?

Thanks heaps guys

I went to the September one as my first time and lets just say, it opened up a whole new chapter for me in regards to cars.

Despite only been once, it's already an addiction for me and really keen for this round of deca.

Try it out and you won't regret it! Also the people are really nice and awesome!

You'll need AASA licence or Cams licence.

AASA licence can be purchased on the day for $50

SAU membership info:

EDIT: Beaten :P

all the above is correct.

AASA does not require you to have a club member ship and allows you to decas winton and a couple other things in vic.

If you looking to do more track days then you will need a CAMS license this you need to be a member of a car club eg SAU

and lets you out at sandown PI as well as the above ones.

that said nothing is as cool as being a SAU member ;)

Deca is good for first timers wanting to get into racing

It teaches good car control in an environment where you've got plenty of room for error

And its the cheapest event out there

so yeah come along have a crack, everyone is super friendly

Hey guys...

i paid n sent my forms through but I have two more questions.....hope you can help......

1. Says I need non flammable clothing? Are trackies ok or jeans?

2. I have a sunroof so do I need a full face helmet with a visor? Or one you get when go karting?

Thanks

There'll be plenty of friendly people to point you in the right direction.

Trackies and jeans are fine, make sure you top is long sleeve as well. Helmet can be open face, no problem.

  • 3 weeks later...

People generally head up separately on Friday / Friday Night then we meet at the Motel

You might find some people at Wallan BP if you're leaving Melbourne at about 6pm or so...

Maybe ask in the Facebook event if anyone is leaving at about the same time as you.

    • I think in the modern era we live in, if I were converting a hydro lifter head to solid, particularly when chasing revs, I'd be seeing what I could do to use shimless buckets. Those of us with Neos usually have this persistent niggling fear of a shim getting spat out and ruining everything. Shim-over is...yucky that way. At least the Tomei kit appears to be conventional, but it would still be nice if they'd decided to go shimless.
    • Ok guys thank you very much. GCG highflow it is then 🙂
    • forgot to mention that when it does this it does not kill the engine, but I have not kept the pedal down long enough to let it, as I see no reason to beat up on it as its got to be something simple, small and dumb causing this.  And as soon as I let off pedal, the engine returns to its normal super smooth operation and rpms re-stabilize quickly, once below 4k.
    • neither stumble or cut really seem to be an appropriate term....hard to explain its like a rev limiter but at 4k, but it violently shakes engine and entire vehicle as the rpms will not rise over 4k, even with slow acceleration. as soon as it hits 4k, it sounds like entire spark is lost entirely. plugs were 1.1 which I used as such, but later put in new plugs gapped down to .8 changed back after issue arose when I replaced the coils, still does it with either plug gap...damn and it was all running so good.
    • Oh how times have changed! I actually lean it out relative to my water/methanol injector duty cycle. The methanol adds a lot of fueling and you can then lean it out even more due to reduced knock.
