Hi all i know this has been covered before but i have a couple of questions.

my problem is my car has just developed the loud buzzing noise from the fuel pump, and doesnt get to full boost. it runs 300rwhp on the lowest setting 14psi so it asks for a fair bit of fuel. (should add ive never let tank below qtr full)

its currently my daily and ive still been driving it to work (off boost obviously about a 10 min trip) which seems fine doesnt seem to be a problem or seem like its running lean is this relatively safe?

also a guy i know with another 33 reckons theres a drain valve for the tank. so could i just undo this and flush crap out of tank? would rather not have to take out tank.

thanks for any feedback guys.

Loud buzzing is usually overheating fuel, fairly common in summer. You could invest in a fuel cooler if you are worried...

Doesn't get to full boos sounds like a completely different problem. Have you checked for piping leaks?

Hi Scott thanks for reply.

the car was virtually undrivable today(very hot today on G.C), the reason i thought crap in fuel pump was because the buzzing started at exactly the same time as the boost problem (also it first happened at night it was pretty cool night aswell).

i just had a look at fuel pressure which was sitting on 40psi at idle i gave the throttle cable a good tug but pressure didnt move (in fact it looked like it went back just a tiny bit) . as for leaks i cant smell anything but havnt had a good look at lines. also when i first turn on ignition it sounds like its struggling to prime lines.

ok just spoke to my mechanic he reckons either fuel pump has packed it in or ive got a rusty tank (or both). im gonna pull the pump now and see if the bottom is rusty, if not im just gonna go with a new fuel pump.

fyi no idea how long these pumps last but it was in the car when i bought it so is probaly at least 30,000ks old (thats how long ago the motor was built).

thanks in advance for anymore feedback fella's.

what fuel pump are you running?

i had it happening when i tried to put a bosch 040 in my r34 and it was sucking up shit in the tank and blocking the mesh over, would take about 10 - 15 minutes to kick in

my tank looks clean as well and most of the time when i'd pull the pump out the shit wouldn't stay stuck on the mesh it would just fall off, though sometimes i'd get a little bit caked on the mesh to come out with it

though if you haven't had the issue before i can't see it just started to happen unless you got a bad tank of fuel recently

i ended up changing my fuel pump to a walbro and it has been fine since, just had to check my fuel filter often

running bosch 040 and have never run tank below qtr (always use bp 98 as that was what it was tuned for) was running just fine on full boost making 320rwkw @21psi. was driving to a mates on a cool night went to give it a hit in second and it didnt wanna boost past 15-17 psi then the next day i noticed the fuel pump noise and its progressively got worse, today it just about drove, anything over 5% throttle and it started dying. it doesnt matter how hot/cool the noise is still there.

incidentally was thinking of going walbro but someone suggested i would need a retune is this true? (running a power fc)

FYI just checked a few things and took her for a drive its a bit cooler now and its not as bad as yesterday when it was middle of the day hot. anyways still gonna go with new pump

i should also add (should have put it in my 1st post  ) that i checked was vac/boost lines etc

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
