I blew my standard turbo and mechanics say 'No one rebuilds ceramic turbos' so I am buying one.

Anyone willing to sell me a turbo? I don't particularly care which turbo as long as its standard flange so that I can bolt it straight back on with no adapter plate or anything like that.

garrett gt25 would be nice...

any offers?

Just drive up newbridge road and visit GCG at Condell park, can't remember the street name. They can do a rebuild, possibly exchange, for you and are very reputible.

On the other hand a second hand rb25 turbo is alot cheaper. Don't know how easy it will be to find one though.

thanks for the gcg refernce guys but I found a cheaper place in landsvale that are going to rip out a 15 000 k turbo outta an r34 and whack that in including installation and cleaning of all my cooler and interpipes (oil everywhere from the turbo burnin oil) will cost $1k

just curious, do the r33 turbos blow up easily?

Yes mine blew after 5 minutes of running high boost (i THINK i was running 11 according to the stock boost gauge). all the skyline turbos have a ceramic wheel (on the exhaust side which is the important side!) to make them nicen light so that u spool up earlier, but they're piss weak compared to metal ones.

Now I have a question: Is the r34 the exact same turbo as the r33? ie, same size, same power?

Beware - the R34 turbo has a nylon compressor wheel & is more prone to overboosting damage than the 33 turbo. GCG rebuilt an HKS BB turbo for me for $800 with new o/s bearings & seals plus VSR balancing to better than Garrett specs. You get what you pay for !

robert112 - not true I think that while the r33 and r33 series1 models have ceramic wheel (good for 10psi) the r33 series2 turbos have a plastic compressor wheel which copes with 11psi fine.

The problem with these series 2 turbos seems to be flow efficiency/ weak wastegate spring and not possible to actually set spike over 13.3 psi.

Supposedly will break at 13.4psi if hot enough. I don't know if that is with a fully standard turbo since you can't set it that high without either high flowing the turbine side or changing the wastegate spring to a harder one.

Damn I wish someone had told me all this before so I didn't have to find out by experience.

bigdatto - you got a hks ball bearing one....... it costs a lot more to recondition the standard ceramic turbos in skylines =/ I got quoted 1750 once, and rigolli's wouldn't even touch me.

Edge - are you serious? I heard the r34 turbo's are a bit bigger than the r33 anyway so does that mean I should produce more power?

doesa any1 have the exact tech specs between r33 turbo's and r34 turbo's?

Ive been running 11 psi on my standard r33 s1 turbo for nearly a year. Its not too much boost. They say that the standard turbo shouldnt be boosted above 13 psi too much cause it can lead to cracks in the ceramic wheel a lot sooner but even so i know of people who have boosted to 14 psi every now and then. You were just unlucky that ur turbo carked it on 11 psi. it might have been mistreated earlier on in its life.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
