ok cheers, i'll check on lunch break. I haven't had any whiny noise, i think it's moreso the engine just revving really loudly at the 3-4k range.

Had a look at acceleration dash videos on youtube, and they all make it 5-7k RPM whilst on boost easy. So now i'm definately convinced something is wrong :\

weird because it always seemed normal to me, and i've been driving it around for over a year now.

I think I've got an acceleration video, I'll take a look.

My 34 hasn't had much work done to it so it's near-stock. Should resemble something close to what you should be hearing.

How does it sound when you free-rev it? Same deal?

This is a stock NEO with LOTS of bolt ons, but the engines have NO issues revving lolz (Ignore the sound as if yours sounds like this then you have issues haha)

yep same deal.

i never used to free-rev past 3000 RPM because the revs sounded high, but i have been recently to the 3-4k mark to test my new boost gauge and it still sounds like engine is stressing a little bit, but the BOV goes off now when free-revving to the higher range. lol

Here's the legendary yellow turd.

Slays Mat's 34 by a mile!

I wish.

Lolz, killed me with your traction ;)

So are you saying yours sounds normal? If so, Hooray lol

oh wow your tacho rockets up. Mine definately doesn't do that or even reach anywhere that high :(

I cant hear the videos because I'm at work atm.

What camera did you guys use to record? I've tried my phone (Galaxy SII) but it doesnt work too well for audio :\

Yeah mine is pretty heavily modified so ignore that part, just showing that these engines DO rev hard and are quite strong!

Mine was just a crap phone camera OFF a videa camera lol

Ok i just took a drive to mount druitt westfield from work.

I'll let the video do the talking (i haven't actually HEARD the video because i was in a rush and didn't replay it with sound on my phone lol, so not sure how audio quality is for this particular one).

That being said, It was a slow climb from 3000 to 4000 RPM, and if i held it any longer, it felt and heard like the revs were getting too high :s

Correct me if i'm wrong and if this is normal lol.

Sounds exactly the same as mine but I didn't have my tacho in view to sight it.

Once you roll the boost up a bit more the revs climb far quicker and it feels far less laboured to get into the higher revs.

How much boost are you running?

Being a really-close-to-stock car (apart from MBC andexhaust), do the revs seem like they're in the correct range though? I initially posted this thread because I wasn't sure if my revs are reading low as compared to other videos I've seen of cars when boosting. Also the tacho does a slow rise up to the 4k RPM range.

I also am not 100% sure on what exhaust I have (previous owner didn't put it on and doesn't know what the owner before him put on either), but i'll save that for another day/thread, or might just take it to a shop and ask lol.

it sounds a struggle getting it higher but, which is why im a bit iffy. I'm running 9psi with my MBC.

It sounds exactly the same as what mine did when I was at that stage.

They'll go all the way to redline, Where you're shifting is where I would shift in normal day to day driving. If I'm giving it a nackering I'll take it out to 6.5k, No problems there.

I dialed a bit more boost into mine and when I'm at WOT the revs climb stupid quick (not as quick as Mat's).

Oh ok sweet thanks for the info and the help. I know people get frustrated when i ask silly questions haha. Takes a lot of stress and worry out of my mind.

I'll try my best to make it to the newy cruise and you can show me then, because I'm leaving this crazy island for 2 weeks to get fat in murica' :D

Have a burger or 10 for me in the states.

Would be cool to get more of us Sydney folk up to the Newy cruises, so if you can make it as well that'd be awsome. Let me know how you go.

The cruises have been pretty successful so far, seems to be a more regular thing up here now with the guys all chipping in to organise! Its great to see you guys making the effort to come up.... As soon as i get my cooling system sorted i should be able to join a few Sydney events too!

    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
    • Assuming your brake pads are not worn right down, I'd add a little brake fluid. Is there any sign of a brake fluid leak?
    • Hello all,  I need of some help. On my drive home my handbrake light lit up and started flashing. When I got home I checked my handbrake sensor under the centre console and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I have scanned my car via the consult port, no codes shown. Checked my brake fluid as well which is half full. Tried unplugging the brake master but it didn't change anything. Thoughts on what it could be? The master float doesn't seem to be stuck. My car is an 1998 ER34 sedan GT. No hicas but has ABS Photos below 👇🏾
