hello All,

forgive my ignorance on this topic, as i never got up to speed with auto electronics, but while searching for a used aftermarket ecu, im hearing that an aftermarket ECU from a S1 RB25 will run an RB20?

is this correct? or Incorrect?

Any suggestions and/or ideas, advice, would be greatly appreciated,

Mike.

Yes it will. Air flow meter is not important, as the Microguess uses MAP sensing (it's own, built in). Whether it is trivial to swap it from RB25 to RB20 or not will depend on whether it is a plug in or a wire in unit. The wire in unit is already more work, but it allows you to easily take into consideration the small wiring differences between the two ECU types.

Good Monring GTSBoy,

i've been searching for a plug in type, and there seems to be more of the RB25 stuff available, if we assume we're taking about a plug in type of ECU, how do you suggest i go about it? does anything in the loom have to be changed in order for it to operate correctly?

Aren't those things primitive? like only have 2D maps and you need to tune it in DOS. I did an ET Pulsar like 5 years ago (road tuning) and fuark man.. the ignition maps are hilarious, 1x table was RPM vs. timing, 1x table was load vs. ignition trim...

why not have a 3D map like the rest of the world?

have you bought it yet? if not don't buy it..

it will work by just plugging it in, then you need a good tune. good luck getting these things right is a pain in the ass.

Hi Anth...

Yes, i agree, MicroJunk, BUT - having said that, it'll work for its intended purpose, and its not street registered, so doesnt need to maintain 100% street manner.......BTW, next time i visit my office in the UAE, i should come visit.

Its just a shtbox for a bit of fun, thats all.

you can still get the microtech right if you know what you are doing.. i have had a few come to me here where i was able to fix the tune to make the car usable on the street.

they are not that bad of a thing if you know how to set them up and tune them PROPERLY.

I would rather a Microtech then any piggy back system, and some other ecu's as well.

yeah Mick, let me know when you are in Abu Dhabi :)

Yeah, but the small set back is that it pulls timing vs. load, so at the same load point and at whatever your RPM is at, it pulls off the same timing. Guess limitations of the early 90s.

thanks guys for a continous feedback. i myself am i signwriter, not a tuner, so i leave that to the experts.

all i'd like to do with this car, is go for a fang on a track or club day, and come home, so im not really interested in setting up an autronic, motec or high end haltech for this toy. I've left that for my VL BT1. :D

    • Update all   thanks to the workshop manual, it lead me back to checking fuses as mentioned central locking and door open lights worked when acc was switched on. diagram attached shows two points of power 1. ACC and 2.  Batt with the later being fused (#28) I did check the fuses using a multimeter but I must have stuffed that up also. Went back and checked the batt fuse in interior fuse box and you wouldn’t believe it… a blown fuse. replaced fuse and everything is now working as it should including the climate control   thank you all with your positive insight and knowledge.
    • Where is the warning "That this thread is super old"   I just went into a 5 year old thread, went to do a reply, and couldn't see anywhere obvious a warning of it being super old
    • Duncan is correct. Pitwork (and Toyota's own cheap brand "Drive Joy") were primarily created as brands to sell other manufacturers car parts. It would be weird if Nissan sold parts for Toyota vehicles with a Nissan logo on it, so they created Pitwork to sell parts for other brans Toyota, Honda etc. They are not the same as Nissan genuine parts, although they *do* meet Nissan's standards for replacement parts. They aren't supposed to be a substitute for genuine parts, but a cheaper alternative that is better than Ebay fake parts from you-know-where.
    • Thanks GTSBoy, much easier to work with it now it's free!
    • I _think_ that one has a christmas tree or some other retainer spike into a hole in that panel under it. Come in under it with thin scredrivers and just pry it gently up. If you rip the ears off the retainer pin....so what? Just stick it back down after with a bit of race tape and carry on with life.
