Hi all,

I purchased an RB25DET Neo motor, and upon pickup I found that there was water sitting inside the valley between the cam covers. The spark plugs were completely submerged, so I dried it out as best I could, and turned the motor upside down to remove the spark plugs hoping any excess water would fall out if there was any. None came out but the plugs were really difficult to get out, and were coveted in corrosion, I think the threads in the head also have crap in them from the corrosion on the plugs.

When I took the plugs out I looked into the combustion chamber as best I could and grabbed a few pics. As you can see there appears to be a circle (approx 1cm in diameter) on top of the piston where water looks like it may have leaked into the chamber. It is only like this on the first 2 pistons. The others all look similar (a rough black surface which I guess is just normal carbon buildup?)

Is that something to be worried about? This is my first time stripping/freshening up an engine so I'm not really sure what standard practice would be. I don't particularly want to take the head off but I will if I have to.

Also there is some black crap on the intake side of the head. What would be the best way to clean up that and the valley where the spark plugs sit?

Thanks.
