Hey guys,

I've spent quite a lot of time searching through the N/A sections to try and find advice on what needs to be done to create an amazing N/A with great responsive-ness.
So far all i have managed to find is advice on how to make better power figures (OMG!!11!! BIG NUMBERS!!1!)
As a P-Plater in Vic i cannot legally drive anything that is decently powerful so the best i have to play with is an N/A that sticks within a certain power-weight ratio and as i highly value my licence i have to stick within my confines..

SO!

What needs to be done to an N/A RB20DE to make it an exceptionally responsive unit? I'm not after low numbers in a straight line, as it's daily driven i need it to be practicle and sensible but i would also like to be able to blow the doors of a turbo'd car when it comes to winding roads =]

the only thing that will let you blow the doors off a turbo car when it comes to winding roads would be some sort of smoke screen or dropping tyre spikes out the back.

good tyres, decent suspension and bigger brakes will make you as fast through the corners as a turbo car with the same stuff, but as soon as they get on the gas they will be faster.

you can make it more responsive with shorter diff ratios as suggested and advancing the timing so it's pinging it's arse off, but you are still pushing shit up hill, so to speak. the rb20 isn't exactly responsive to start with compared to other engines out there. driving style will make the biggest difference. drive around keeping it above 4000rpm will help. or pull the engine out and bolt in a rb25 (although if you have a r34 25gt then you already have a rb25 in there)

or sell it and buy something lighter and more powerful. it may be fwd, but there are plenty of light hatches that will beat a NA skyline both in a straight line, and in the bends.

Is RB20DE a typo?

Cause your profile thing says you have an R34? (RB25)

Sell the skyline, buy a B-series Honda.

I had an N/A R34 for 3 years, without the power you feel the weight....bad.

If i had my time back, I would have spent the past 3 years in a Honda.

Yeah sorry Lindz, that was a typo.

I like my Nissans, mainly the Skyline and FWD's just feel wrong to me, personal preference though, not hating on them or anything.
The Skyline is probably the only thing i can currently legally drive that would satisfy my tastes, if i could drive a 350z i would have one in a heartbeat..

If i could turbo it or throw another engine into it i would but the P-Plate restrcitions would still get me.. I'm not a hoon or anything, believe me, but a little bit more power would make me smile. Too embarresed to take the NA to a track haha.

So far we have shorter diff ratios suggested, anything else at all?

how much do you want to spend? you won't get a NA skyline fast for cheap. even with a small amount spent you will still get beaten by commodores and falcons in a straight line, and small buzz boxes in the corners.

as for fwd feeling wrong, it isn't until you are "hooing" that you actually notice the difference. driving to the shops and back you won't be able to tell the difference at all.

Not looking to spend heaps as it's just not justifiable, i'll get my opens in 2 years and would prefer to have a bit to splurge on something with a much more powerful base.

My girlfriend has a VW Golf, FWD, that i've driven on many an occasion and i'm not sure if it's the German design, weight or shape but it feels terrible in comparison to the RWD Skyline.

My opinion hasn't changed, Honda.

A mates lightly modded EK hatch was dead even with my 34 in a straight line.
He had a few suspension mods (coilovers/braces/sway bars) & he left me for dead in the twisties.

He then dropped a B16 in it......you get the picture.

Don't get me started on DC2R's.

Trust me mate, once you drive one you'll realise, they aren't you're "average" FWD.

what model golf? if it's just the base model then what you are complaining about has nothing to do with it being fwd. it has more to do with it not being marketed/designed as a sort of sports car. i could use the same sort of analogy as you and say that because the missus SSS is much nicer to drive than my vt wagon, rwd cars are shit compared to fwd.

i have a twin throttle body intake ill be selling soon, the whole plenum incl intake EVERYTHING as im going itb on my 25/30.... if interested pm me ill let you know when im ready to sell it, have a quick look i think theres pics on here or the engine used to be skit_r31's so have a look there. cheers

    • Hello , im new here and i have A31 home build  RB25det neo stock eng / turbo  aem ems 2 blue connector  aem 3.5 map aem cas disk aem wideband connected to ecu  355 lph pump 550 nismo yellow injectors side feed aftermarket regulator  and won’t start with base aem tuner basic tune eventually flipped cas 180 degree so it triggers on correct stroke not in exhaust cycle  Now it won’t start Wideband reads 10 and 11 at lowest fuel setting  and will share calibrations soon for aem tuner i think something is wrong in aem tuner    please if you have any information, am very grateful         
    • Legend. I ended up finding the facebook account of the owner of the first car i sent but sadly he deactivated the account. I think you’re right in saying it’s some sort of well done custom job. Really appreciate your help anyways.
    • Totally equivalent. Stock often goes from the comp cover because that's where the actuator is also installed and the factory needs 2" of hose to make the connection - and it comes as a pre-assembled unit. They totally have a boost reference from somewhere between the turbo and the throttle(s). Oh, jeez. Just do it in M12 then. We don't actually care that much. I would expect any such AN converter fitting to rely on an o-ring or some other seal onto a flat surface under the flange of the hex**, because bolt threads are no intended to provide a pressure seal. unlike..... pipe threads. **which also requires a suitably flat and smooth surface on the turbo's boss to provide the seal.
    • I also used NP   That’s were it’s seems to be the best place to fit it? All schematic shows also that it’s should be referenced from the turbo housing. But idk, I do see high hp cars without any connection or anything to their turbos, so I really don’t know how they connect their things
    • I do have loctite 243 and 246 and a few more models. I could drill it now in place and make new threads for m12 and order an4 - m12 coupling and fit that to the turbo. Run a braided hose to the EBC which I could get a an4 to 1/8npt
