Hey guys,

im looking at getting my hans device and was just after some of your opinions on those..

I'm leanisng towards the Schroth port 2 at the moment just because of the slipstop friction surface for the harness but slightly weighs more than the sport 2 Hans model.

my understanding is that Schroth just adds what they think can improve the Hans designed ones. But from personal experience has anyone compared them?

Price wise there's not a big difference and thats why im leaning towards the Schroth one.

For the Schroth system to work properly, you need to use the matching belts with them, otherwise standard belts, especially 3" ones, can move about too much when used with them.

I've always used HANS. Started with one of the sport II's

Found it was very movement restrictive compared to a carbon pro series I had borrowed previously

Bought myself a 20deg pro and never looked back.

Spend the extra money and buy the pro series.

I was considering upgrading to the ultra pro if your interested in buying a 2nd hand (perfect condition accident free) pro series

Problem is alot of club cars now days go as quick if not quicker than category racers, and usually the drivers are far less experienced and also spanner the cars themselves with little to no experience or qualifications.

(How many SAU track days in happen and you read about faded brakes and long pedals etc the weeks following them)

A GTR went off at Wakefield about 6 months ago during a speed off the streets day.at the end of the straight, punched the tire wall front NS corner first, driver was taken away and to this day is having neck related problems and intense physio.

Scott Pye went in a lot harder last week at symonds and is already cleared to race again. Shame his cars in a million bits on a chassis JIG though.

Pye was lucky the arse of his car was already off the ground when he went in. A lot of the energy went straight up and not into the front of the car.

No doubt the HANS would have helped the poor GTR owner with injury prevention.

At Lakeside now they are heavily pushing everyone to get a HANS device. A bloke died not long ago there from a broken neck. The lesson learnt from that was had he been using one he more then likely would have walked away from that crash. They are heavily pressing the issue now.

I don't like crashing or coming off the track, but I'm sure one day it could happen and when that day comes I would like my head/neck to remain in its current position and configuration.

Unfortunately, it is utter nonsense that he would have walked away from the crash if he had been wearing a HANS device - he also suffered a massive cardiac arrest and was only kept alive with CPR at the scene. You have to be a little sceptical just how safety conscious track management actually are when they twist stories like that. Particualrly when they are planning to import and sell HANS type devices... are they really all about safety, or just sales.

Last weekend at Lakeside track management allowed racing to continue in wet conditions with a car off to the side of the track at the highest speed part of the track, the Kink on the front straight. There is next to no run off there, and in the wet it is effectively zero opportunity to have any say in where you end up. A driver, wearing a HANS device, went off and ploughed into the back of that car and suffered a fractured vertebrae as a result. Luckily it was an under 1600 car only doing about 160kph. The front running cars are well in excess of 200kph at that part of the track.

We were racing there last weekend. You were talking about the accident on Saturday when it was raining? It took a long time to get him out!

No doubt they are in it for both reasons. Sell safety to everyone they can for a price!

I was only told the story via second hand info and that bloke probably didn't know the full story either. Good old Chinese whispers.

I guess the point is you are ultimately going to stand a better chance using one then not. Despite how annoying they are, they are a good idea.

I've gotten to a point with mine that I feel strange being on track without it being on, and having broken a couple of vertebra in my neck in a sporting accident, I want to try and avoid doing so again.

well as most of you im sure would approve its about preparing for when the worst will happen. you don't even have to be in a super quick car... 50km/hr in the wall can snap your neck!

even though its not compulsory in the class I will be running (open) i still want to be wearing a HANS device.

a mate of mine was telling me how one of his friends back in Japan passed away after spinning his evo and just hitting the curb, car didn't even flip and his neck just snapped.

i cant put a price on my life...

as brad said I don't consider myself as an experienced driver.. yes I've raced my car a few times but I'm no pro and now that I've built a full race car I want to play it safe.

I ended up purchasing a Hans Sports II as I thought the only difference was the weight between the sports II and the pro..

How much would you be after for the pro series brad?

Depending on the helmet, I believe that you can still get the helmets drilled for the posts but it has to be done by an approved person. Call Revolution Racegear, Racer Industries, etc for more info, or you could try CAMS as well.

that's exactly why i think it should be made compulsory in any class if your running a harness..

I'd say 8/10 of my customers use HANS devices.

The scariest part is the owners of the quickest GTR's don't use them and they are the ones that would go into the fence the hardest

Have revolution race gear a call today

Due to my helmet being a motorbike helmet you can't drill into it and put Hans posts in due to construction differences between bike and Motorsport helmets

But if you have a Motorsport helmet you can drill and put Hans posts in

So time to save for a new helmet and HANS device

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch.     • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
