Hey guys,

I thought I would make a build thread on my recently purchased 97 R33 GTR.

Early last year I purchaced a MY05 WRX that I originally had bought with the intention of not spending big dollars on it as it was already a nice neat cruiser and I did not want two money pits in the drive way (I have a Rotary). While it was in fact a nice car, I constantly had this feeling of dissatisfaction that I obviously didn't shake.

I've always wanted a R33 GTR since I was about 10 years old (literally), so i thought f**k it and put the Subi on car sales. To my luck i found this nice example and swapped my WRX + cash.

Some of you may have seen the car before. Used to wear the plates URG-33D and GOD33R prier to that.

I'll post the full specs list and better photos when I can:

Roughly:

1997 R33 GTR
R34 motor (Carbon dipped detailing by Aqua Dip)
GREDDY T78 single turbo kit (etc)
External 62mm Wastegate with screamer pipe
Trust Front Mount Intercooler
270degree Trust Cams
Link G4 Computer
R34 6 speed & Diff
R34 Brembo brakes all round
20inch Rays Volk Racing GTC wheels (carbon dipped by Aqua Dip)

Made 502HP (370AWKW) @ 18 PSI

It's unrealistic to say that I won't be spending money on her as I don't see myself selling up anytime soon!
Just need funds to recover, then i'm keen to start playing with it.

(I've put the DSRUPT plates on just for the Street Cover meet, until my new plates arrive)

Car looks tidy as man. Done any track days or 1/4 in it?

Thanks! I haven't done any yet. Definitely keen to get out there some time in the near future though. I'm keen to see what she pulls down the 1/4.

The carbon fibre cam covers and plenum look realy good ! Is it sprayed on? Sticker? Etc

Ps great looking car what are your plans for it in the future?

The carbon bits are dipped by Aqua Dip, link below

Plans are just to neaten the car up and change a few things to suite my taste.

Cosmetically I want to source a factory front bar and black lip, factory side skirts and V spec pods.

After that, probably upgrade the injectors and go for a fresh tune to see how she goes!

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?
    • roof rail delete used to be a thing, they were made locally for a while too
    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
