Hi all,

i need advice or im going to go insane. Ive been looking at getting a R33 GTST for a while and am about 2 seconds from taking out a loan and going and buying myself one of those sexy, sexy beasts.

Problem is im on my P's still.

Are cops likely to hound me heaps if i get one? I dont want to end up loosing my licence and being unable to drive it.

Am i better off getting a smaller loan and putting it into my R31?

Its just a stock GXE and i was thinking of converting that to manual ($1650) and putting on a 2.5inch zorst and extractors and mabie a pod filter.

I just dont know if that will quench my thirst for the next 11 months.

Any advice would be appreciated.

By The way i live in mornington if anyone knows what the cops are like down here in regaurds to skylines

Cheers ;)

Steve

There is another mornington 'liner here, can't remeber the nick exactly, Rhett or something like that, might on P's too? he should be able to give ya a bit more geographical relevant info.

I just bought a GT-T, got about 1 year left on my P's. From what i've heard, if you don't drive like an idiot, don't draw attention to yourself, you should be fine. Well i hope so! ;)

Just dont got getting your self into debt. If its your first car go buy some econo car or something crappy and get some driving exp under ur belt before u go out and grab a skyline.

Also take into consideration insurance. You could put it in ur parents name but then ur rating will probably stay at 5 or whatever it is now. Some companys even reset it if hte cars not in ur name

ahh cheers dudes,

yeah ive had my R31 since before i was in the army but now that im out im sick of it. its auto and it shits me.

It was my grandpas though and he had it since it was new. (any offers! Ha Ha!)

there is a GTST for 16000 round here, imac and 89000k's

ohhhhh the agony!

How long u had the R31 for?

I've still got my Nissan Pulsar hatch, '91 1.6ltr. Had that for... 1.5 years? Like what Intensevil said, good to get some experience, and i'm glad i didn't get the R33 in the end when i was 18 (nearly 19) so i saved a bit more, got some driving experience with the Pulsar and just got the GT-T now. But sounds like you've got a bit of driving under your belt anyway with the R31. So i reckon you should be fine, but yeah, just check out insurance first as well.

cheers and best of luck!

Buy a 33 mate...no mucking around lol

I wouldnt waste my money on doing up a 31

I took out a loan last year, while i was on L's...got my p's around 4 months ago.

the only reason i took the loan out was because i could feel safe that i could easily sell the car for around the price i bought it for 2 years later down the track...as long as i didnt ride it off

ohhhhh the agony!

for 16g's it wont be immac or have only 89,000km. Just be carfully coz there are still alot of dodgy people still around trying to offload crap.

And it doesent matter what age u r, cops will still hassel u about your "blower valve" even tho they dont know wtf it is.

Stay away from the loan if possible..... if you have the 31, then keep it, drive it around until you have saved enough money to buy the car that you want (I don't understand the fascination with 33's, personally they don't appeal to me at all unless it's a GTR)

If you get a loan for a car, then you have to find money to pay back the loan, and fix anything that goes wrong with the car in the meantime (as well as continuing to fork out for all the other usual car stuff)

Once you start to add things up, it will get expensive.

Keep the 31. :)

Embrace the 31 :)

Learn to love the 31 :)

SKY031, you rekon just do up the old R31?

just chuck in the mods listed on www.r31skylineclub.com in the FAQ's?

Im at suck a dillema. because i know the RB30E engine in the car has NEVER been thrashed. not even by me. my Pa bought it with 20K's on the clock

hrmm...

What could cops do to me if i did get pulled over with a GTST?

Thanks heaps for all the imput by the way

my skyline is stock and every time the cops get me for something sooo stupid it's sad, ie, worn down wiper blade, new tires, crap like that.

if you get a 33 and look after it, keep it clean, staty away from drag and drifts, you'll be fine, cops won't touch you.

But get the 33, best thing i ever brought!!

ditch the 31 grab the 33, thats what i did, best thing i ever did too! **** the cops, just dont drive like an idiot n u'll be right :D

Yer, if he dont drive like you he'll never loose his license :)

Mate, dont get a loan if you can help it.

Keep the R31, bear with the fact that you dont like it. Dont waste any money on it at all.

Save up the cash... and buy an R33 outright, or as close to it as you can. Even if it takes you 7 months. It'll be more worthwhile.

I'd personally wait till your off your P's if you've only got 7 more months to go.

Also remember insurance, it might pay to call up about that too

As INASNT said, for 16k, you wont be getting one in 'top condition'

    • Even more fun, leave all the ADAS stuff plugged in, but in different locations, hopefully avoid any codes!   And honestly, all these new cars with their weird electronics. Pull all the electronics out Duncan, and just shove an aftermarket ECU and if needed a trans controller in, along with a PDM. Make it run basic but race car styled!
    • To follow up a question from earlier too since I had the front bar off again (fking!) This is what is between the bumper and the drivers side wheel And this is the navigator side, only one thing but its a biggy! So basically....no putting coolers in the wheel arches without a lot of moving other stuff. Assuming I move to properly race prepping this car I'll take that job on and see how the computers respond to removing a whole bunch of ADAS modules
    • So I prepped the car for another track day on Wednesday (will be interesting to see coolant temps post flushing out and the larger reservoir, with a forecast of 3-14 being 20o cooler than last time I took it out). Couple of things to mention; since I am just driving the car and not taking a support vehicle, I took the rear seats out and just loaded the back up Team Trackday style. Look at all that space! To cover off removing the rear seat....it is weird (note the hybrid is probably different because it wouldn't have folding rear seats) Basically, you remove the lower seat base, very similar to a r series but it is a clip that pulls forward to release the base rather than it being bolted down. Easy Then, you need to remove the side section of the rear seat on each side. There is a 14mm head nut at the bottom of the side piece, the it slides upwards off a hook at the top to release; you also need to unhook the seatbelt from the loop at the top. Then the centre piece is weird. You need to release/fold the seats forward with the tab in the boot on each side From there, there are 2,x12mm headed bolts holding the rear of each seat to the folding bracket, under the trim between the rear seat and the boot (4x christmas tree clips there, they suck). The seat is out but you can see where the bolts attach to the bracket
    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
