Hi all again,

Just changed my AEROTEK TRANPARENT BLUE air pod back to the pod that came with the car. I was told by Genisis Tuning that the Aerotek Pod was a dangerous unit (relied only on its 'mesh') to keep clean air. (It did look pretty though!!) As you can see, (I hope), that's the TRUST Foam unit in there somewhere,.........do I have to oil this one (I didn't think so?), or just wash it now and again? ............your thoughts.

My AFM had to be serviced because of the Aerotek Pod I used. Idle instantly dropped to 650-700 rpm and was smoother. (was 900-1000)

Thanx to everyone who helped me with my "spark gap/extra boost issue!!"

Mark.

PS..this is my actual car. (it's a standard 5 speeder)

I know nothing of the Aerotech pod, but the Blitz metal mesh pod is not too bad. From the report I've seen it filters slightly better than a HKS foam pod. If the pod is foam, it needs oiling. Foam has huge visible gaping holes, and the oil is the only thing stopping dust getting through. I would think that a dry mesh filter would be slightly better than a foam filter in general, but it would depend on the specific brand.

I have the exact same "airinx" Trust pod as you, and it does require oiling, apparently.

I was going to buy a new element for it instead, but cant find anyone that can supply them.

thanx rhett,

IF YOU DO FIND THE LOCALITY of a new 'foam piece", could u let me know,

also, can I get this filter "oil" from any good auto shop, and, what brand would people suggest I use for this filter?

Also, the foam in my filter has incredibly small holes in it, and it is double layered with '2 types' of foam' (green dense on outer, finer black on the inside)

I'm not talking MICRON type holes, but they are indeed tiny.

thanx again.

Yeah I just got the filter oil from autobarn, i think they sell a k&n kit that has the oil and the filter cleaner stuff together.

Man mine was dirty when i cleaned it, it probably had 12 years of crap built up in it!

I was always led to believe that the "foam" type pod filters (HKS dome pods + airinx) were a disposable item, and once soiled a new foam was to be fitted ($50).

The paper mesh type (K&N) are cleanable with the K&N Filter Cleaner kit.

Thanx Guys. I've already washed mine using mild dishwashing liquid, the crap that came out was incredible. I suppose there could have been traces of oil that made the water go black. But there was BITS in there too. I wonder where I could get a whole new foamy, just so I can start from scratch and be confident that I'm doing the right thing by my pony.

Mark

    • I thought I'd heard rumor of someone that was developing a 6 speed kit to convert the 5 speed box. But maybe I was thinking of the PPG 6 speed sequential? That's about half the price of a car...
    • I've searched fairly extensively among Japanese websites but found nothing really like those skirts in your photo. The closest I got was Origin Labo side skirts however they look more 'complete' in that they have a finishing piece or tab at the rear of the skirt so it blends into the bodywork, unlike the one in your pic. For that reason I'd say the skirts in your pic could be adapted from another car and they didn't include that tab piece, or those skirts aren't copied from an existing skirt but an original design. Sorry I can't help out in regard to ID'ing/sourcing them
    • Wonder if JB Weld sponsored the event lol
    • There's a big difference between a car built with millions of dollars in R&D, and someone like yourself taking a normal sporty road car, and making it 5 times more powerful. At the same time, get a modern sports car, and you can turn them up towards the 1000hp mark a lot easier too. Also, give that Lambo another 20 odd runs, and chances are it too may break something.
    • There isn’t really a cheap upgrade here. If someone made a decent, bolt in 6 speed that holds some grunt, it would do very well. The 5 speeds suck. You can put a - OSG 5 speed gear set into it. Ratios are tall so it zaps the “zing” out of it. Had one, busted it. - PPG 5 speed gear set synchro or dog’s. Ratios are even taller. - An overpriced Getrag. Nice to drive, expensive to source now. - A sequential of some sort. Expensive, very expensive. How many times do you pop a 5 speed before you throw the toys out of the cot?
