11's with gas ya goose :-D

I have developed a dickhead filter that gets rid of all the anti-nitrous, anti-thinking crap that goes on in peoples tiny minds so stuff like that is really water off a duck's back.  Doesn't really phase me and i no longer take it personally.

Just to shut some people up though, I am racing with some of the other guys at WSID on the 30th of this month.  The plan?  No gas, standard turbo, 1.0bar, 12.6 ET @ approx 108mph.

Then you can all LICK MY SWEATY 11 SECOND BALLSACK!!!

:(

Adrian

And what tyres you running to run the 12.6, i bet its not normal street tyres???

Just adding my 2c here:

I don't see the "general" perception of nitrous (NOS is for the Fast and the Furious crowd) changing anytime soon. I always hear people talk about nitrous as a "cheater" way to quicker numbers, and that includes owners of performance workshops too!

At the end of the day using nitrous is the same as using ELF or C16, it's a chemical method of achieving more horsepower. Nitrous off-the-line helps improve 60' times, that's for sure!

It's interesting to note that the Japanese aren't big on nitrous use in drag racing, especially when they follow the Yanks with everything else.

Edit - While I'm talking about the Yanks, you only have a look at the various US forums to see that even over there (in the land of street legal Nitrous) most of them see a nitrous "kill" is a hollow victory. "Yeah but he had to 'spray' me to win".

I'm guessing the reason Japan isn't into nitrous use in drags is because the top cars, HKS, Trust etc... all want to prove thier parts are the quickest/best etc... for marketing... if they used nitrous, it wouldn't realy show how good thier aftermarket parts are?

Ah yes, but if they ALL used it, i.e a level playing field, then their parts would still be on show.

True, but then you are adding in 1 more factor that won't show off thier parts.....

and as you said i think the 'general' idea of NOS is that its cheating (dont flame me - i'm not saying it IS cheating) but thats what most people think of it... so if HKS put NOS on thier car and ran a 7, then you may find marketing would backfire - people may say 'hks cheat they use nos'....

So Adrian your saying unless you have pretty much a bone stock car, its not legal....

Not me mate, the constabulary say that. Never said I agreed with it. The point is that you're picking at things and saying that it isn't as worthwhile as running times differently. Your version of street trim is different to mine and different to the police's as well.

Out of interest, Do you drive your car on the street Adrian?

Absolutely. Wouldn't have it any other way. See the thing is, my car is just like every other standard turbo equipped, mildly modified 33 gtst out there. But I can flip a switch when I'm racing.

Have you ever had any hassle from the cops about your NOS?

Is it illegal to have installed even if your not using it?

No hassle whatsoever. Not illegal to have it installed. Illegal to have it installed and not properly isolated.

And what tyres you running to run the 12.6, i bet its not normal street tyres???

Guess again champ. I drive on my nittos every day. They are my regular tyre for street use. Drive to drags, connect bottle, let pressure out of nittos, race, disconnect bottle, drive to servo, put air back in tyres, drive home to Wollongong, over an hours drive away.

HKS, Trust etc... all want to prove thier parts are the quickest/best etc...

HKS run Autometer guages in their car so I wonder if that's the case at all. :(

if HKS put NOS on thier car and ran a 7, then you may find marketing would backfire - people may say 'hks cheat they use nos'....

Errr... the HKS car does run 7's. Repeatedley. But I hear what your saying. Thing is, i don't see how this applies to your street car, street trim, street whatever point?!?!

Adrian

Well if you run a so called NOS car on the street

Want me to finish that sentence another way? Okay I will.

Well if you run a so called NOS car on the street.... you're a fu(king d1ckhead that doesn't deserve a licence.

Adrian

Very good points adrian....

I always thought it was illegal to have nitrous installed in a street car - even if its not in use... there you go learn something new everyday...

You have given me a few things to think about with the whole street trim etc... i guess i want my car to have the power i can use all the time, not just when i go to the track, so i guess NOS isn't for me, but it is just a personal preference....

The thing about the HKS car wasn't to do with street trim, it was just to do with what whatsisname said... seperate thing....

Robo's - i think he means USING NOS on the street - your a dikhead....

Robo's - i think he means USING NOS on the street - your a dikhead....

Nope. I meant racing on the street means you're a dikhead.

Does the bottle hold enough "NAWS" to run it the whole back to Wollongong?

ROFL :(:)

No mate it doesn't. lol. But i know how to fix that:

"I need two of these...the big ones....and I need'm by tonight!"

:P

Adrian

The way I see it is you go to the drags to do the quickest time you can, so do whatever it takes to do that quickest time.

I'd much rather say i'm running 10's with nitto's, nitrous, big turbo etc etc than i'm running 12.9's with standard turbo and street tyres with subs in the boot.

I meant with NOS you will run times better than without NOS etc... then when you run out of NOS the guy next to you without it now starts to beat you, and will continue doing so until you refill your bottle....

Better to run out of NOS than petrol...

Isnt boost the same as well? If I run 13psi thru my stock turbs I'll expect sub 14s to show up. Using 5psi I'd be saying hello to 15s. If a car runs 10s, I'm gonna be curious how, but not gonna label it due to the components used.

Nitrous is a power adder, just like turbo or supercharging. Sure, it had a more limited application, but why does that make it cheating? All you're doing is squeezing more oxygen into the combustion cylinders, exactly what a turbocharger does. Who cares whether it's because a turbine is forcing it in, or a bottle is forcing it in? It's all just oxygen.

:werd:

In addition (and IMHO) NOS makes more sense coz it has been compressed using someone elses power. A turbo uses power from your engine to compress the air. Its just not as useable and more dangerous than a turbo...

benm - fair enough, but where do you draw the line? if you just want to go to the strip and run as quick as you can, why not buy a cheaper, lighter car, stick a more powerful engine in it, strip it, put it on slicks and keep it strictly for the strip?

in otherwords, where do you draw the line?

Hey theres a difference between racing with organised illegal back street meets than having a burn against a mate. I dont attend to illegal street meets coz most are dickheads. But yes, i do have the odd burn against a mate on the road and im sure 99% of the people in here including girls do so.

So think before you going on calling people "dickheads"

    • Yes to both! Yes to standard ECU and tune, but exhaust is aftermarket. Unsure on brand. Actually have it sitting in at my desk haha! I have to set it up on my laptop but this is a great next step, will do. So I generally try to shift before 4.5K RPM most times. I largely don't do a lot of high-rev driving, but I will take it up to red 1-2x a week max, as I know the occasional "Italian tune-up" is good for these cars.  Oh wow, is this way better than what I'm getting. Does this mean there's a good chance I have an issue?   Thanks for all the info so far guys.
    • Old Son, did you re-use the Holden ABS in the new shell or try a different module?
    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
