benm
A few questions about Radiations in the R33 GTS-t: I noticed a few months back that their seemed to be what looked like dirty water splashed on the cover where the cam gears are, also on the side of the stock airbox. Didn't take much notice of it as I had driven through some mud and thought it had just splashed up or something. A few weeks later I did a coolant change and then headed to Wakefield and kept topping up the coolant after each session (about 200-300mL at a time) just to keep the level in the overflow bottle up to 'max'. It appears that coolant is leaking out of my radiator (im guessing only when the temperature is up) on either end of the top part near the hose and the airbox. The gauge on my dash for engine temperature still sits at the normal position (went up slightly at Wakefield after 80+ laps in 6hrs) but apart from that daily driving doesn't appear to be effecting any temps. * Is this a common problem? * Will things be ok if I just make sure the overflow bottle level is kept up on 'max'? * Is their a certain part of the radiator that can be replaced/fixed or does the whole thing need to be replaced? * If it needs to be replaced, what brand, how much and where from? I have looked on www.Greenline.jp and of the 3 available for the RB25DET they range from ~$800-2,000 depending on brand/size. Feedback? Roy
I suppose it may be worth getting a pressure test done... i was guessign thet delivery of a radiator out of japan would be pretty expensive, so i was lookign at ARE radiators. Silver-Arrowz
I've got a PWR radiator and have nothing but praise for it. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-875147 Share on other sites
ed
Maybe go for a re-core? Also the stock gauge will sit in the same spot from about 80-115 degrees, so don't rely on it! T0nyGTSt
Re-core the ****. I have a triple in mine. No problems for a coupla hungy. These are no more difficult than a radiator out of a VL or Falcon so there's no need for $1,000 radiators. T. benm
Ok so where can I go (Central/Western Sydney) to get mine looked at / enquire about a new core? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-875320 Share on other sites
Craved
you may not be able to recore yours, i know mine is in similar condition and went to get it flushed... i was told there was too much stress cracking in the plastic end tanks, if they pulled it apart the force needed may break it completely!! try ABC radiators off mulgoa rd, maccas side of ford dealership in an alley/industrial complex im currently looking for somewhere that will provide just the core in bigger size as i can make my own end tank out of alloy! B-Man
The std radiator on the 33 is pretty good Ben - No need to go all fancy. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-875380 Share on other sites
benm
I don't want to go fancy I just don't want to destroy my engine nor spend millions. I'll see if I can find this ABC place today... rhomel
You can buy drop in 3 rows from japan from this mob. http://www.coolingshop.net/ About $180 delivery from last check Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-875447 Share on other sites
benm
Turns out the top tank has a 2" crack directly behind the cap where you fill it up which under high pressure/temperature it is leaking. Went to 2 places to get quotes. #1: $95 in parts or $280 fitted. #2: $120 in parts or $200 fitted. I could probably do it myself with about 2hrs of mucking around but i'd rather get it all done professionally so i'll get #2 to fit it all up tomorrow. ed
Make sure the price includes a pressure test. If it doesn't might be an idea to get one done Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-875952 Share on other sites
T0nyGTSt
You probably need to visit a Skyline specialist The reason I say this is that *some* will have an RB radiator already lying there, cored and essentially brand new so they can install it and you don't have any downtime waiting for yours to be recored. Should be a coupla hundred exchange. T. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-876150 Share on other sites
benm
What does a pressure test involve? Shop #1 put a gadget over the filler hole (to seal it) and pumped it afew times and then green coolant started pissing out of the crack, everything else was fine. Cubes
I was charged $90 for the rop radiator tank in my 32. Natrad radiators. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-876365 Share on other sites
Clint32
if you change it get a cross flow radiator, work much better than the std setup with a tank at the top and bottom no matter what thickness it is, around 1k are Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-876514 Share on other sites
Maxx
GTR radiator should be a budget upgrade Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/42871-radiators/#findComment-876898 Share on other sites
Craved
it would be a pain in a55 to change to cross flow, with getting new piping to fit and cross back since the inlet and outlet on the same side, it would increase the cost abit over that of the initial for the radiator!
