Hey everyone

Like the thread topic states..

My left and right indicators on the headlights aren't working but the rest are.

The globes are fine, and when I test to see if any power is in there, there isn't.

The fuse under the dash is fine. Ive got the relay pulled out atm.

How would I know if my relay for my indicator isn't working, and if ive gone in the wrong direction please guide me.. kind of lost

Cheers OJ

Swap it with another relay in the relay box. Make sure they are the same by looking at the specs on the top, they should all be the same anyway.

Other then that if you have checked all the fuses already you will just have to keep testing for power. Indicator stalk may be shot. Because the high beams run through it I assume it may have an affect on the headlights and indicators.

Okay I guess I didn't realize yesterday, but my parkers dont work either.

High beam works

Low beam works (only when clicking into 2nd mode)

Indicators next door to the headlights don't work at all.

The previous owner did have HIDS on and took them off.

I can't really follow the wires back from the globes as they get hiding. Still trying to find a suitable 3 pin relay as most in the car are 4 or 5 :/ unless I pop down to supercheap..

So the low and high beams work normal once the light switch is past the park light setting and into the headlight setting? park lights arnt blown or removed or anything like that?

Most of the time HID conversions are pretty easy to get back to standard as most of them use the standard wires as trigger wires for the ballast/relay for the HID's, but at the same time it comes down to who installed them

Have you checked the flasher unit for the indicators? I swapped mine not long ago to a non load dependant flasher (because I put LED indicators all round) and i hooked it up wrong the first time and blew the fuse. So you've checked all the fuses but perhaps something has happened to the flasher unit

The only problem is that because it wont work it will be a bit of a pain to find because there usualy easy to find when you can hear them clicking on and off. Mine (in my r33) was under the steering wheel, could get to it if you stick your head in the foot-well and look up. 3 wires going to it

Correct, lows and high beams work after the park light setting. Park lights have globes and are not blown due to being checked.

i also checked to see if any power is going there, but there isn't.

isn't the indicator relay the flasher unit? i have attached a photo of what makes the 'clicking noise' when the indicators are on Left or Right (which is fast), or on Hazards (which is slow). But either way, the front left and right indicators aren't working nor are they receiving power.

when i unplug this unit, (which is a 3 pin) the indicators don't work at all (obviously), when plugged in, it makes the clicking noise.

This unit is under the driver side, pretty much inline with the clutch pedal bolted. i just have mine unbolted at the moment.

im in the process of buying a new indicator stalk, as i have a feeling it could be short, as the previous owner said it could be the reason for it flashing fast.

Is the process of the indicator lights going on like this:

  • Left or Right indicator selected from the stalk
  • goes to indicator relay/ flasher unit (3 pin)
  • then travels all the way to the selected side indicator globe?

Ps. the photo is up side down, only rotated is for reading purposes.

Ah ok, mine has both a flasher and a relay I think.

I think this is the one I replaced my stock one with anyway, stock one looks similar (round, about the same size, and a 3 pin plug):

Perhaps the 32's are different but worth a look if you have 10 mins or so to look under the steering area

BTW, the hazard lights dont work by chance do they? The indicators and hazard lights are funny, indicators wont work without the hazard switch plugged in but the hazards work when the indicator fuse is blown. From memory on my car this is true anyway

is yours a series 1 or 2 r33?

cause mine is a s2 r33. i wonder if there's a difference in this =/

ill check it out tomorrow after work, as ill have a better look at it during the day.

yeh the hazards work fine, clicks normal (slowly), but still the parker indicators next to the headlights have no power.

Oh crap. Sorry for some reason I thought you had an R32. Mine is a S1 R33

So the flasher should be there, its def there on mine. I can possibly get a photo later if you think that might be the problem. Should at least be able to test it for power see whats happening

Also, the small bulbs in the side of the headlights are just park lights not indicators. They should light up when the park/head lights are on.

The indicators are on the bumper and the front guards.

Nah all good man, we all make mistakes.

I'll check tomorrow after work, my roof lights don't work either, it did but dunno. I know the middle light is a blue led globe and can't find power to it, but not to worried about it at the moment.

Oh my bad, I thought there was 4 lights that would flash for indicators including the ones on the front bumper (fog lights)

Now I'm a Lil confused, I just don't understand why the indicators are flashing/ clicking flash then if they are not connected to the low/ high beams?

Yeh if it's okay, could you take a photo and upload it so I can see where it should be. At least if it helps me, hopefully help out other SAU members too.

Cheers man

I should also add, when I switch to 'park' mode on the stalk, so one click over. My clock and dashboard lights dim down as they should, but like I have written no power to headlights/ parkers.

Apologies for not writing this earlier.

Hey everyone!

I've fixed the problem, anyone that has this problem remember to check the bulb size for indicators.

My front indicators had 10mm wedge globes, and I put 15mm wedge globes and that fixed it.

Cheers everyone for the support, help, and solutions. Surely learnt abit more about skylines and electrical lol.

Thanks,

OJ

    • Biggest thing is you're okay!   It sounds like between the accident, and the drive home, it was a pretty torturous trip again! On the bright side, you took the opportunity to enjoy the event more from the perspective of a spectator, than as an entrant!   Sad to see so much damage to the car. It really has taken a HUGE hit in the front end. If/when you choose to repair, hopefully the rails are straight (At least from shock tower backwards). Hopefully the extra cage coming through there has save most of the chassis rails, and HOPEFULLY saved the motor too. Best of luck when you eventually get motivated to start pulling it down to check it all out
    • Sounds more like what Brad said, that it's mainly transfer. What pad bed in procedure did you use, and did you replace/machine the rotors, or just swap pads?
    • The stutter is almost entirely in the pedal. I don't feel the brakes release and reapply as you would with ABS engaging but the pedal feels that way, without the brakes releasing. It only lasts for less than a second and the pedal is fine again. It's hard to explain, sorry.  I'll get under this weekend and just double check everything is tight. Fluid is at max where I left it.
    • What bedding in procedure did you use?   When you say stutter, what exactly do you mean? Like it feels like someone letting go of the brakes momentarily and regrabbing them again to get you to stop? Re-reading your post, and that is what it kind of makes me think you're explaining, like theres a little bit of a jolt, likely just as you're reaching a stop. I've only had this issue once. And if its caused by what caused mine, you will want to get the car up on stands again and check it over. Mine was a case of a caliper mounting bolt coming out and letting the caliper rotate on the other remaining bolt and gave play in a wheel as it came to a stop. But not every stop either!
    • Yeop... binned it   This will be a summary will not many pics atm and cbf  Fixed the samsonas - it was totally munched Put a new precision 7675 T4 on with proper split pulse mani Got to Sydney to get to car - drove to canberra to get racecar - drive back to sydney that night Next day all day at Plasmaman putting on new clamps cleaning some things up and adding another large engine oil cooler sitting at the rear above diffuser to keep things cooler Next day - Tuesday - on Dyno - killer wikid awesome pumped out really good numbers - more mid range and on lower boost levels Wednesday - first prac - all day again getting the suspension right - had to borrow front suspension again - out do a lap come in - out do a lap - in - what i had just couldnt handle the load at the more consistent higher speeds - got a lap in at the end of the day that was pretty reasonable  Put it this way that lap wouldve had me in 4th in Pro am for the whole event - with only 700 hp and used tyres Thurs first official prac day - lap out warm up - then entered a hotlap with above setting and 80% effort took corners 1,2,3 and into 4 car felt awesome -  rear came around out of nowhere bang into the wall near front on at whatever 140 kmph Done, over, gone Just one of those how did that happen apparently as all indications show nothing out of the ordinary Got to spend the rest of the time at the event like I hadnt done before - was actually Ok mainly as I had my family and my boy is 9 and got treated like a rockstar Long trip home, lost a trailer wheel in nowhere land, X5 airbag suspension gave up half way across nullabour and rode on bumps stops (its now completely fine) had to do a 19 hr drive day on day 3 as accommodation got screwed up so just had to keep driving till found a town with some Now to reassess - hopefully the motor and other things are OK but yet to be seen too. There is no easy fix there is no i'll just order that part and get it sent - we'll have a talk to people see what can happen and what the go is but at minimum its rebuild from scratch struts forward and alot of time effort and $ should and if I return and if but maybe/ when  I have the cage tied into the front strut towers - if I didnt have that things couldnt been worse you can say its just a front end but if you know what goes into these cars... you'll know what that actually means in reality   Car was very fast. Disappointing we just didnt get to show it Effort doesnt win you races though     Apparently this is motorsport !
