The turbo I brought is modified but I know next to nothing abit it apart from it's been modified, if there is anyone in canberra who could check it out take it for a drive etc , basically tell me what I have got please give me a pm or post an we can go from there, not asking for freebees just seone who is local an knows there stuff.

I'm new here by the way and am looking at going to dubbo to swap a vu ls1 ute for another hot skyline as I'm having a great love affair with my turbo ,my first. Any help would be appreciated an reciprocated , of anyone who's been there an knows what there looking at could tell me what been done to my current, an if it's sooner rather than later advice at what to look for on this 7k or swap in dubbo.

I'm not looking for a handout just an eyes on opinion.

Cheers

Daryl

Hi Daz, Is your skyline an R33 or R32? are you southside or norhtside?

most on here could tell you the bolt on mods from sight

and yes, it would be good to know what the seller advertised.

most list there mods but if they didn't I'm sure some one could help.

pics of engine bay (multiple angles, and the turbo), dash, and underneath at the exhaust and inside wheel arches.

wont be able to tell about the engine internals from external.

Remove passenger side kick panel and there will be an ECU - take a pic.

[Edit] - oh and I wouldn't buy another one just yet. Skylines have a way of draining your money ;)

Nice post Mik, I've never seen that ... worthwhile stuff.

Daryl I'm not the person to help you mechanically, many more in here better qualified than I, but welcome to the world of Skylines ... I'm sure you'll get hooked like the rest of us. Someone once told me that when it comes to Skylines, the more mods you have/do the more time it will spend off the road and the more you'll have your hand in your pocket.

Regardless, enjoy the ride mate ...

Cheer mate thx anyway an the link was helpful but offer still Stands, if you know your stuff and could test drive I'm open to it, my number is there and I'm enthusiastic just never had a Japanese car before nor a turbo , I'm green as

So local opinions or any are appreciated .

Have a great Labor Day holidays guys and lasses.

Cheers

Daryl with the car above that you are looking at, make sure it has a tuneable or chipped ECU

If it doesn't then I personally wouldn't bother. Reason being is that it sounds like a throw together job. If they have been running it like that for a long time then the engine will be pretty worse for wear.

I spoke with the guy yesterday he has current Dyno

Papers for the car getting 254rwkw @11psi ,I did ask him if

He had boosted the turbo higher an he said not without getting it retuned.

I'm going to ask about the ECU today , but I'm guessing it has.

Lucky bugger know the only dynotuner in town an to prove power output or just give it a run on the Dyno for numbers cost him nothing

To get it tuned 600$, I. Can't get near a Dyno for under 1200$ here in canberra.

The car is a 98 model btw , an I've got nothing to do next weekend so might, take the ute for a run an take a look.

Who have you been talking to? Every tuner i have been to doesn't even nearly charge that.....

Currently 3 tuners with running Dynos (that are worthy): ESP, Autotech and ultimate tunes. They won't charge you nearly that much.

Any of those 3 that i mentioned ^^

I think it's around $180 ish to get your car dynod just to have a look at it from those places. Give those shops i mentioned a call and just compare the prices.

    • Oh dear. The panel beating needs to be done before the filler work. Do you have a photo of the dent before you started? Hard enough to not flex and only hit the high spots?  What do you mean it was just temporary?
    • Can u check this way it works for power supply?
    • These coils draw 10amps that what i read online
    • I appreciate the detailed explanation, think I understand now. I spent the better part of last night reading what I could about shuffle and potential solutions. I had replaced the OEM twin turbo pipe with an alternate Y pipe that is separated further away from the turbo. The current one is from HKS and I had a previous pipe that was separated even further away, both have shuffle. I had heard that a divider can be welded in to the OEM pipe to remove turbulence, and figure that aftermarket pipes that are more separated would achieve the same thing. From what I read, most people with -10 turbos get shuffle due to their size, though it's a bit less common with -5s on a standard RB26. I think Nismoid mentioned somewhere it's because OEM recirculation piping is common in Australia with -5 cars. It seems that the recommendation tends to vary between a few options, which I've ordered in what I think is most feasible for me:  1. Retune the MAP or boost controller to try to eliminate shuffle 2. Install OEM recirculation piping 3. Something called a 'balance pipe' welded onto the exhaust manifolds. I don't know if kits for this are available, seems like pure fabrication work 4. simply go single turbo My current layout is as follows: Garrett 2860 -5s HKS Racing Suction intake MAF delete pipes HKS racing chamber intake piping hard intercooler piping,  ARC intercooler HKS SSQV BOV and pipe Haltech 2500 elite ECU and boost solenoid/controller HPI dump pipes OEM exhaust manifolds HKS VCAM step 1 and supporting head modifications Built 2.6 bottom end All OEM recirculation piping was removed, relevant areas sealed off I'll keep an eye out for any alternative solutions but can get started with this.  Only other question is, does shuffle harm the turbo (or anything else)? It seems like some people say your turbo shafts will explode because of the opposing forces after a while and others say they just live with it and adjust their pedal foot accordingly.
    • That worked out PERFECTLY! Thank you big time to JJ. He was able to swap me his stock diff. He drove all the way to me as well. Killer! Removal & install was pretty straightforward. The diff itself is HEAVY. So that’s a 2 man job.  Man does the car drive nice now! Couldn’t have worked out any better 👌
