I was told yesterday it was running really rich an can't change that till it's tuned but better than lean ?

But they were talking to a Nissan moron ,now I know how other people have felt when I'm going on at a mile a minute on other topics.

Larger turbo on stock ECU will run rich

To protect the engine.

No chance of getting 280kw with just a computer.

As zebra said, chances are that it's got stock injectors, fuel pump and AFM because its the stock computer.

So max with those parts and a tune is around 210-220 but with a larger turbo its going to be a laggy 210-220 I would guess.

So start planning what you want and we can help try come up with what you will need.

The mechanic I seen yesterday said he'd have it running 280kw in a week, but what we spoke about the haltech platinum piggyback I'd have a safe 220-230 but your right about injectors , regulator and pump.

Are I tank fuel pumps a hassle to install?

I'm about to run an injector cleaner through a full tank but still have to find out about the fuel system

Thx

Have a good look at you injectors and compare with photos on google images.

If your keen, take out the fuel pump and do the same.

If you spend a bit of time reading : http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/55845-rb25-turbo-upgrade-all-dyno-results/

You will see what is actually needed to make power, and what does nothing.

What i learned is if you have a bigger turbo and want more power, you need more fuel. The standard fuel system only has enough for a slightly bigger turbo, and small power gain.

And you need a computer to run it of course. A Nistune is suitable for anything thats not making heaps of power. ( for rb 25s i dont know exactly how much )

Almost anything else you do to the motor wont give more power, like wanky bov's etc. But things like an upgraded cooling system can keep it in good nik longer.

Dont forget the cheap effective things like exhaust and intake, though you may have most of that done already.

Personally id make it run nice with the turbo you have, and concentrate on handling.

Theres a lot of bits and pieces to make it handle good. It can eat up a lot of cash.

I couldnt use all my 180kw because my diff was stuffed, no point having power you cant use.

Ps: im jealous of your wastegate actuator, thats nice and simple, reliable and adjustable.

fuel regulator usually isnt needed as upgraded injectors dont need more pressure.

unless your going for huge power

How can the mechanic say 280kw without knowing what its got.

Not being a flamin mongrel.

Trying to help.

Haltech piggyback is the most ridiculous thing ive heard.

This isn't 1999 anymore.

Nistune will do everything you need for half the price and as a bonus will actually work.

Car wouldn't run with bigger injectors.

If they are purple they are stock.

Ok.

So what you want is.

And this depends on budget too.

Nistune or a powerfc.

550cc or larger injectors.

Larger fuel pump. Walbro or something similar

Z32 MAF

Metal intake pipe

Then better than stock clutch (im partial to os giken)

Then tune by someone who knows what they are doing...once again my preference to take it to yavus at unigroup engineering in sydney (I wont ever take my car anywhere in canberra, but im a fussy prick) others are happy with a couple of the locals.

There arent many highflows that will do 280rwkws on 98 so expect 240-250 at the most.

Now you have a quick car that needs to stop and steer better. So factor in good suspension stuff. A good diff Centre and work on the brakes. New rotors and good pads are enough for most.

 exactly

Just found out the guy I brought the skyline off in apr cashed in the rego 2 days after I did the revs check an I've got to re rego it , have to either replace the steering rack or stop the leak.

3 new tyres and kill 6Db, also raise the adjustable coil overs they do hight but can I do it or do I have to get pedders or such too, same principle as a motorbike shock I think but I want the adjustment to be exact.

Also thought about adjusting the boost with the adjustable rod but don't know what distance to boost it will make.

That's where I'm at.

Also looking for a maf befote tune.

Cheers

Oh also found out they wound back the tacho it's got about 300000 not 169000 as it read , is anyone honest anymore

But compression check an engine check is healthy so don't know what to think

I will never do biz in vic again. That's 3 times now I've been screwed down there .

Be careful not only in Vic but every other state. Normalllllly - SAU people are fair honest - as we are a little tight knit community. I purchased Rosie from vic (SAU seller) and it was quite a good deal. Nothing wrong with it and all in good nick - all I could ask for was a little less lazier seller :P

cheers

    • Seat of the pants assessment of the new intake: The car is way less "doughy" when hitting the loud pedal, especially off idle when stopped or in traffic, I did use a cheapo lazer thermal thingo to measure the temp around where the pod filter got its air, it was between 55 - 60°C, in saying this the car was shut off and not moving, so the OEM intake pipe was not supplying any fresh air to where the pod was when the car was at least moving A weird bonus was induction noise on the throttle in the cabin increased a bit,  I was worried that I was actually going to lose some of that induction noise I love so much, outside though, when I got the daughter to do a WOT drive by pass for me, the induction noise has increased alot when on the throttle, not quite ITB doort, but well up there I'm extremely happy with the results and have been exploring the country roads in the region  As for house mods: 1.New front fence is up and is awesome, it really upgraded how the joint looks from the street, and the added security is nice 2. Electricians have replace some interior lights, and with more lighting in the garage, a few new motion detecting lights out the front above the garage, front room, and at the front door, which I have already found heaps helpful coming and going, also now has fancy pants CCTV all round the house The only hold point for power though is the solar and batteries due to supply issues, although this will happen over the next few weeks 3. I have done a heap of landscaping out the front and I'm almost ready to do a new small retaining wall with some nice blocks to replace the brick and cemented in rocks around the raised garden beds cemented in river stone "was the fashion at the time" the house was built. I currently have a pallet of retaining wall blocks and 2 bulka bags of 20mm blue metal to replace the wood chip that is in the raised garden beds around the house 4. I now have 3 big raised garden beds for out the back to grow some vegetables, about 70cm high, 200cm long and 100cm wide 5. My 2 compost bins are already pretty full with brown, green and kitchen waste from the landscaping I'vedone so far, but they will probably take a few months to break down, so anything else that gets chopped, trimmed, and kitchen waste will just start filling the base of the raised garden beds to about 30cm before I start throwing 40cm of good compost, and stuff, for the vegetables to grow in, I'll need a few ton of compost and soil, but the local supplier can sent me bulka bags of the stuff Basically the logs, wood chips and a few strategically placed rocks for drainage, will give the beds some good organic materials down low to break down over time, and they will hold moisture during the warmer months to save the water in my big arse water tank if we don't get alot of rain So, all in all, the car and house mods are going well, and I'm really enjoying being retired, I sleep in too 0700 and slowly plod around inside until I feel like actually doing anything, and only work in the yard for as long as want, which has actually been alot over the last few weeks,  although when you look at it, it seems that not a huge amount of work has been done,  until I look at the before I started the work pics Happy days and good times indeed
    • hahaha yeah. Plan is to get side skirts and probably just rear pods. But going to do them one-by-one. I've got a set that I really like from RHDJapen, but that one isn't shipped to AU. So need to find someone who can get it for me
    • Here's an idea, answer the questions I asked you as they are trying to work out WHY the LSD will be binding up in a straight line.
    • You haven't driven many modern cars then have you? Most of them have sfa steering feel with their stupid electric bullshit steering systems.
