yeah I know it's been covered before and stuff but I'm a little confused...

Sydneykid says that they're the same here. Yet when people have installed GTR cams they have better response etc...

can someone explain please? I've been thinking about a cheap mod and cams seem like the most logical thing for me without having to increase the boost.

I've been thinking about getting the STR cams that UAS have ($380 a set) which seem like a damn good price to me.

Anyway yes please explain cam thing...

The question was.........

rb20 and rb26 cam gears same ??

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

anyone help me out here

My answer was

YES.

That means the CAM GEARS are the same, not that the CAMS are the same.

Or have I missed something?

yeah i think there is a misunderstanding here

the cams or camshafts are the long rods with lobes on them that sit in the head.

I think you are talking about cam pulleys or cam gears, they are the round cogs on the end of the camshaft.

Hope that sorts it out cereal killer.

greysky, read the thread i started a while back.

a basic answer is they physically fit in place without any problems, however adj cam gears and aftermarket management is needed to have the engine running properly.

i didnt have these and found my car wouldnt hold idle or run very well below 3000rpm

but you also had other issues with your engine, right?

i think its definately possible... and a cheap upgrade but will tell you more once mine go in :)

thanks for clearing that up mate.

will a S-AFC (blue screen) be able to manage the idle lumpiness.

My car exhibited the same exact symptoms that BBenny's did. It simply would not idle. Since that little experiment I've discovered a couple problems that definately contributed to my problems. The cam swap forced me to basically troubleshoot my entire car and perform some routine maintenance that I had been neglecting. I found the AFM harness was loose and brittle, I re-grounded the igniter box, my 02 sensor was fried which was fouling my plugs pretty badly so they too were replaced.

The car runs much better now than it did before the cam swap attempt. I'm going to invest in a set of adjustable gears and give it another go in a couple weeks. I'm very interested in anyone elses progress with this swap.

haha no i didnt take it like that :D

no i went and spoke to several workshops and they didnt beleive the tight inlet would have caused such a prob, if it did it would have seized very quickly after driving.

so i think that ecu and adj cams should see the GTR cams working.

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
    • Yeah mate, never miss it.
