As I have been quoting for some parts it seems I can get all the bits I want from different shops for cheaper, initially I thought that if I could get them from one spot I would get a good discount for a job lot, sadly no.

Roll bar from MX5 Plus in Qld paid for, got a very good discount through MX5 Car Talk, should be here at the end of the week, will post pics when installed.

BC Coilovers are on the way, again, should be able to pickup by the end of the week.

And, I could only fit one in the 5, its a fixed Bride knock off from Just Jap, 100 x more comfy than the Sparco Sprint I was looking at, and cheaper, I had a Sprint before and it had nil support, this is sweet for a cheapie seat I'm very happy..

It only just fit in, it mounted to the standard MX5 seat rail, only needed to file out 2 holes about 5mm for a perfect fit, Ill get another for the passenger side when I head out to Just Jap to grab the coils..

Happy Days

What did you do for seat rails? I'm using the wife's track car while I regain patience (and a bank balance) with the r33 boat. So I want to put a decent seat in her car.

I used the side mounts that came with the seats, I removed the universal rails that they were attached to and bolted the side rails directly to the standard rails, the MX5 rails lined up near on perfect, I just needed to file 5mm off with a round file so the rear mounting points on the side mounts lined up.

Using the standard rails allows you to retain the standard 3 point seat belt bit, the standard rails are unaffected so if I want I can remove the seats and bolt in the OEM ones straight back in.

These seats have more shoulder room than the Sparco's to, which is good, they are not so tight around the shoulders but still hold you really firmly.

Apparently the passenger seat needs a bit more thought.

Picked up the BC Coilovers today, finished fitting them just then, got the initial ride height right and am going to give it a day or two then check and reset.

I ballasted the drivers seat with 80kg and set the height initially at 145mm from ground to a pinch weld on the body, it will need to go up a bit as it settles as the best height for the steering geometry apparently is 145mm from ground to a pinch weld on the under carriage.

Then I need to get the whole thing aligned right.

Happy Days.

Got some new wheels to replace the 16 x 6.5 ROH POS wheels that came with the car, they are DTM (not the lightest or best but I like the look and they were at a good price) 16 x 8 +20 fitted with 205 45 16 Potenza's RE002, they have a very slight stretch on them, I might go for a slightly wider/different tyre next time, maybe 215 or 225 semi, but I will then need to roll the guards at the rear.

I ended up with the polished rims as they remind me of the old Dragways which I was always partial to.

Alignment was a PITA as the front ran out of adjustment at -1.5 deg, I wanted -2.5 front and -2.0 rear, so now I need some camber arms for the front, the rear got to -2.3 so no issues there, the settings are -1.5 & 0 toe all-round with around 5 deg of castor, ATM, not optimal but until I get some arms its a compromise setting.

They fit well and the rims sit right at the guard, the Bridgestone's, although only a street tyre, seem to be performing well, well on the street anyway, I will see how they handle 3 quick laps as soon as the cage is in and a few other items have been sorted.

The aircon comes out this weekend, I just need to get a new belt to suit.

Waiting for some fleabay bits and pieces and still need to get some good brake pads.

Happy Days

All air-con bits and pieces gonskie, apart from the air-con electric fan which will be utilized as a extra cooling fan when I'm stuck in traffic or after some hot laps.

The fan will come on/off when I hit the air-con button on the dash, I still need to bridge out some connections though, just need some wire and a terminal to earth it.

This also turned up today, I will prep and paint it this weekend then fit it next week.

Sweet

Hmmm, maybe, is it timed?

The car now has a extra go fast ding, like speed holes I guess, thanks to my daughters push bike.

I am now looking for a hard top for it.

On that note I must renew my SAU and CAMS stuff.

Picked up a hard top today, and as I have no Frankenstein bolts or side catches it was latched at the front and taped on with 100mph tape at the back and sides for the drive home, I have given it a polish/glaze/wax and removed the window tint, after the pic.

I need to get the bolts and latches for the body then I shall remove the soft top and store it.

Also gave the roll bar its first coat of primer.

Happy days.

Cheers mate, its coming along quicker than I had though, still a while away from track ready though, another month or two and I should be happy with the prep for its first outing, the spend budget for the toy in almost kaput, still got enough for brakes and harness though but not much else.

I might strip out the carpet/deadener and some other creature comforts tomorrow.

And I didn't really need the hardtop, but I really wanted it, I'm like a kid when it comes to shiny things, LOL.

Tax money may see a new LSD, it will need one eventually, sooner rather than later is always good.

My window banner came in today, matte black awesomeness, no more sun in the eyes for me, if anyone is taller than me they will most likely only see the bonnet when driving, LOL.

Waiting for a hard top fitting kit that I got on flea bay for a song, I will then remove the soft top and fit the roll bar, the car will then be know as the "Sweat Box".

I have also got some useless useful stuff like tow hooks which I'm waiting for, also waiting on some battery and tow stickers from Rev Race ( because I am a big kid at heart).

Its getting really close now.......

Like Big Kev, "I'm excited"

Hard top all fitted up today, Its still got the soft top installed for now, but it will come out in a week or two when I fit the roll bar.

With both the windows down the airflow is almost non existent, I may look at fabricating (cutting holes, yay) something on the rear parcel shelf with some ducting and dump it out near the rear bumper, inside the boot on the passenger side is an sweet looking spot for it.

A couple of 4" NACA type ducts and a meter or so of ducting should see it sweet and shiny.

Ps every time I see the thread title I think mrs nb mx5 lol

Anyhoo, Mark - there is an sscc sprint in march but I cannot make it. Ill be in Fiji. There is one in April or may at smp south. Be there

    • It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!
    • The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
    • What do they look like right after you've tried to start it with everything connected? Also post photos of what they actually look like.
