Hi mate.

I have spent a lot time building power, but now I know a lowered r33 gtst has no grip off the line.

I had a mustang before and I had set that up for good launching the advantage I noticed is that the mustang had a solid axle and the geometry of the suspension was way better for drag racing. I think this is because the mustang always through out the whole weight transfer kept the tires flat.

But with the skyline being lowered I'm already at a disadvantage cause my camber in the rear is off and I'm riding on the inside off the tire to begin with. Now when the car is leaving the line it flexes to transfer the weight and the rear wheels go even more off camber. More on the inside edge of the tire. Hence the car can't dig in.

Does anyone have any experience with a good drag setup. Like the shocks I need and what Kg springs to use. Along with the hight from fender to middle of the axle. I'm also thinking of pineapples (don't know if they work) along with some arms to adjust the rear camber and toe of the rear wheels.

Any imputs would be helpful.

Thanks mate

I was hoping for a more detailed explanation. Trust me i started out with that. It's not going to be that good. I feel that the hight needs to be raised about 365mm from fender edge to axle and some soft springs. And start off with about +1 camber.

Well your on the right track. The principles apply from the Mustang to the Skyline.

The one major difference being IRS. A raised ride height and some positive camber will help traction off the line.

Also, what tyres are you running and how much power?

The pineapples are for the skyline R33 gtst. The power is about 420hp. It's not that much but right now it's just spinning up the tires. Even with the stock rear shocks and springs. I have also changed my driving style and nothing is helping to much.

I'm looking at the titan supra for clues. I notice that it has to be real soft. With good shock dampening. To work. But do I need to also raise the front of the car as well or just the rear.

I'm just using my old set up on my mustang as a comparison. Where the skyline leaves the line spinning the wheels I had way more power in my mustang with way more toque in the past but it just took of way faster. But the skyline is way stronger mid track. I feel if I can get the right setup I would love this car. I have the car set up with down graded s13 rear brakes and have a set of weld racing rims and 10x26x15 micky Thompson et drags to run.

I just need help finding the ride hight and shock and spring rate to start out with. I'll post a video of a friend driving my old mustang (I sold it) against the skyline. At only 7 psi. A bit later. Thanks mates.

My i add that the mustang is running full stocker 346 with full drag suspension. And NT555 tires. I feel if i run my gtst at 18 psi i can run it down. But that's not my interest. I just want to launch the same way.

Adding 90/10 shocks with standard springs will help but I think the main thing will be the ET streets.

If the car is manual then leaving the line with boost will also be difficult. It's either dump the clutch at 6000rpm+ or bog down.

Maybe try to set up some kind of 2 step limiter for launch?

Its all been covered here.

Most people find the stock suspesion setup is best including the factory soft spring rates.

Watch and try to measure/workout the rear squat on launch, a little positive camber on the rear when unloaded will turn to no camber on launch for the best rear footprint so you need to set it up with no camber when at the launch/loaded ride height.

    • I've heard the Tomei USA head gaskets are decent if you want to o-ring the heads but otherwise not recommended.
    • The 296mm rotors are the R33 turbo brakes. The 310mm rotors are the R34 turbo brakes. The calipers are nearly the same, but not. They're the same caliper but the R34 caliper has longer legs so that it sits out far enough to go over the rotor. The pads are the same for both. When you say, "I bough tsome EBC"....did you just mean pads? Or rotors? 310mm rotors fit under 17" wheels. There may be some wheels without enough clearance though. I can't fit my fingers between the barrel of my wheel and the "corners" of my R34 calipers, but there is plenty of room behind the spokes. This is on Enkei RPF1. You can fit 324mm rotors inside a 17" wheel, but I'd be willing to bet that it would be close to impossible with the Nissan/Sumitomo caliper (using an adapter, of course), because the Sumitomo caliper is fatter than the Brembo caliper that is supposed to go on the 324mm rotors.
    • Hi. Can someone tell me what brakes(and mainly WHERE) can i buy brakes on R34 GTT? I bought some EBC which SHOULD go on my car(i have GT but it has GTT brakes) but it does not fit, Brakes are "too" small(296mm) Are 310mm be good or? I have 17 inch wheel so no "big boys" but for me driving i just need one that fits and i can get here in EU/Czech.
    • Since winter isn't that harsh anymore in Poland, i will definetely drive it 365 days a year 😉. But if the snow hits i will try it for sure and let U know. Only swap i am planning to do is of course R34 GTR front 😍.
    • Hey. Very valuable information about pitwork, I will pay attention when buying any consumable parts 🙏 As for the carpets - I got a handful of information from nengun, from which it appears that indeed the carpets for the driver's side are OEM. They are not able to show me any pictures due to the long chain of different sales entities but after I place the order, as soon as the goods arrive at the nengun warehouse from which they will send the shipment to me they can send me photos and if my purchase differs from OEM I can immediately return it / cancel the purchase. I think I will give it a try 😉. Of course i'll let you know what's what as soon as i get them P.s. I know the topic is not relevant to the thread, but both nengun and amayama have these SICK 😍 trunk room lamps available. Do you know anyone who ordered them? I need to have one in my car
