Jimbo2000
ok couple of Q's about trackdays 1 oil - i am currently on time for an oil change, should i change before the event or after. 2 - brake pads, how do you check, dino said in the faq that they should have more than half left. 3 tyres - i mentioned in another thread a while ago that i would like to get out there on my current tyres (close to shagged, still good for the road but not for too long) and learn what the track is all about before going out there with brand spanking new tyres and chewing them up, but i read just then in the faq that they might not pass me and let me drive if they're no good.. i dont wanna trek all that way and have to turn around cause of tyres 4 - and most inportantly how do i insure that i dont Bman my motor, it seems in good nick and compressions fine and all, what should i look for to see if it should be able to handle it? Duncan
1 - before. And after really but thats up to you. 2 - you might be able to see with wheels on, just look from either the top or bottom of the caliper. If wheel is in the way off it comes You will see the pad itself and the pad's backing plate, you are looking for at least 5mm of pad in there or you'll be hopelessly looking for skyline pads in Goulburn (been there, done that) 3 - unless your current tyres are showing canvas, take em. Just take it a bit easy as you should be first time out anyway and it will be fine. It sucks to have shiney new tyres that you rip to bits in one day on the track....its not so bad in winter but a hot day is hell on tyres. 4 - pray. Nah while there are no guarantees it is extremely unlikely you'll hurt your engine, in all the days I've been to I've only seen 1 skyline motor let go and that had some mods on it anyway. You're even less likely to hurt it on street tyres as you just won't get the g forces you can with r tyres. The best way to make sure your motor survives is just good oil, healthy fuel pump, and don't drive around on the rev limit all day Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/44401-team-raceworx-invites-sau-to-wakefield-park-26-07-2004/page/3/#findComment-930217 Share on other sites
Tosh
as Duncan has said, if you take it easy (as you should on your first time out) you'll be fine as far as engine goes. the main concern with your engine is to make sure you don't over rev it and your cooling and support systems are fine.... run a bottle of octance booster on 98RON fuel, run STOCK BOOST, and make sure your coolant is relatively fresh. Other than that there's a few things you need to do on the day to take care of your car but which ever team member or experienced driver you choose to come out with you can make sure you understand all that needs to be done You're main concern should be brakes, just make sure you got decent fluid and that your pads have plenty of meat left on them... otherwise I'd reccomend bringing a spare set of pads just in case.... I'd also consider getting the discs machined... it doesn't take much and may be a great help to you out on the track good luck Jimbo and we'll hope to see you there Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/44401-team-raceworx-invites-sau-to-wakefield-park-26-07-2004/page/3/#findComment-930249 Share on other sites

Jimbo2000
thanks fellas, very helpful. yeah i actually wanted to run my old tryes as i dont plan on going to bananas as it IS my first time in any kind of motorsport just wanbt to learn a bit, was just worried as i said, dont wanna get there and be turned away brake fluid is on the list and i'll have a look at the pads and try to get someone who knows what they're looking for to help me with that one. all that above info is great and makes perfect sense apart from one thing. STOCK BOOST in my car is 15psi thats what i'm a little worried about Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/44401-team-raceworx-invites-sau-to-wakefield-park-26-07-2004/page/3/#findComment-930278 Share on other sites
Majanal
On your first day the best advice I can give is do 4-5 hot laps around wakefield (3-4 around EC) and then do a nice slow one, top gear, not pushing at all to cool everything down. That should keep you out of trouble engine wise (and gives the bloke you took out for some pointers a chance to stop shitting himself at you piss poor attempt at racing lines! :joke: ) As far as car prep, check all fluids and make sure your up to date with oil changes.
