Hey guys I have a r34 GTT with a power fc just the stage 1 mods, and suddenly the engine light started flashing at around 5500rpm and is if there is like a boost cut.

I instantly thought it was knock and grabbed the hand controller and it was only like 10.

So I thought it might have been the injectors maxing out for some weird reason but they are at 92%.

Air Meter at 5100, I swapped over the AFM with a spare that I have and it's still doing it.

Next step I disabled the Injector warning - Still flashed.

Disabled the AFM warning - still flashed.

Turned the o2 sensor function off - still flashed.

What the hell could it be I have no idea, please help, thanks.

It depends what the warning is set out. You can set it to go off at whatever you like

The map sensor is for the boost control kit but does work without it. If you bring boost up on the hand controller and its got lines instead of a figure then you don't have the map sensor. I dont think you do but had to ask. I'm not even sure if it flashes the engine light anyway.

Hey guys well it started again arhhh.

Weird although I have noticed that it mainly does it in the rain???

At about 4000 rpm mainly in 2nd engine light flashes car feels like it just turned off and back on then I back off.

I once thought fark it lets see what happens and it hesitates for a few milliseconds then goes fine, I'll attach a photo of my peak hold off my power FC if that helps at all.

I'm thinking either clogged injectors or is my fuel pump getting weak? if you think it's the fuel pump how can I test that?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Your airflow is getting borderline out of range (high)

Your injectors are borderline of reaching maximum

Both may be within the warning set in the Power FC. Depends what the tuner has set them to

Doesn't explain the problem with the drive from the car, but will explain the warning light I'd say. The Tuner may have set them at those levels, without FC-Edit to look at the settings then

If it were me, I'd be getting a Z32 AFM and some bigger injectors, then trying to troubleshoot the problem, because looks like what you have now is not quite enough to do the job safely. It may be a problem with the AFM, and you may find that spending $200-$400 on a Z32 AFM might solve your problem anyway.

Without more information though its hard to say for sure. It may be worth talking to your tuner about it so he can see the car and experience the problem

Yeah true, what trips me out though is that the car has been tuned like this for the past 2 years and now all of a sudden this is happening, I've tried 2 different AFM and 2 different o2 sensors just incase and same thing is happening, running the same boost and all, well I'm sooning aiming for my stage 2 upgrade, hopefully get near 300rwkw just stuck on which turbo to get, and which injectors, are the r34 injectors side feed or top feed? thanks.

Lose the whole 'stage 1' upgrades, etc.

Tune's dont always stay 100% perfect, in fact most of the time they dont. Differing temperatures for example will make a difference. Colder winter then normal for one

As the engine wears it will probably make a difference as well

It would be better to log data on a laptop and see exactly what the car is doing when the problem occurs. Hence why it would be a good idea to go see your tuner, see what he thinks. Becuase chances are he has seen it before

What you can try do is disable the ECU from giving warnings if your AFM or injectors are at peak. What I would do next is have the control in the mode which lets you view the sensors and if the ECU triggers a warning have a passenger watch the screen closely to see if one of the triggers switches off. If the ECU is throwing an issue, it can be reported by the hand controller, whether it be a threshold limit or a component failure.

Ahh k so put it in the sensors mode correct? And watch for one of the little circles to either come on or off yeah? It's not the light that bothers me I just don't want to blow anything - don't have the time or money for that atm.

It just trips me out as to why it mainly happens when it's raining and why all of a sudden if you get where I'm coming from, and also that little jurk that I get when the engine light does flash and what causes that? I'm thinking maybe as a safety precaution it's like a Rev limiter.

the engine light in my r33 flickers at times when im pushing past the 7,000rpm mainly in 3rd n 4th. Knock doesnt register any higher or go up when the light flashes, no engine damage or failures have happened and i have more than enough fuel and headroom with my setup. I've sort of learnt to ignore it and focus on knock readings

    • GTSboy, thank you again. i’ve been reading all the other SAU RB25 vacuum line threads and you have the utmost patience for people asking “where do my vacuum lines go”. it’s appreciated. i did also enlist a few other RB guys local to me.  i would like to run 5 to 4. turbo pressure side to wastegate actuator. i would like to run 3 to 1. power steering air valve line to intercooler outlet. (this is how it was previously). i was told 2 is the bleed port for the boost solenoid - which i’m not running - so should be capped.   anyone see any problems with that?
    • So yes. All of them. Something like 98% of all fuel in the USA has 10% ethanol: https://afdc.energy.gov/fuels/ethanol-fuel-basics It's labelled as like, AKI, 87, 91, 93 with an E10 or E5 or E15 label on the pump. At a certain point, it's not just "E10" instead of 91. It is 91, 95, 98, and all of them have 10% Ethanol in them. You can also get E85 and E30 which is why you do see some people rolling around with E30 tunes in them.
    • Thanks for the response. This is an 04 EP3 Type R. JDM spec. Fairly certain they're just basic BC racing coils. I do plan to keep as the ride quality on stock I've been told is pretty meh given Sydney roads. If I were to go down that avenue, does NSW require them to be a certain spec (close to original) etc?
    • Should have asked what is the car?
    • I've had two super conflicting experiences with blue slips. My 30 year old E39 waltzed through with no issues but my brother in law was knocked back on 12 y/o 3 series due to wiper blades and some cracking in a control arm bush.  What kind of coil overs? Do you want to keep them after?  If it was me I'd get some dirt cheap shocks and springs from eBay or scumtree. Not ideal but will get you over the line and might even be less than $1k.
