I sense a lot of pud pullin going on with regards to HTA's too, they are not magical, there is no fairy dust inside.

Failure of ceramic bearings causes many butt hurtz though. Come at me when you see one crack 200,000ks Lithium, then we can discuss how good they may or may not be. My opinion is already forged by my experiences. ;)

I shall re-iterate my :D

Never said anything about fairy dust, like anything it's all about matching components in a setup - the mood of this whole thread is basically identifying that fact. There are *some* HTAs which are very well suited to some requirements for RBs, and a lot of the time they are overlooked - which is the only reason they come up. There are also GTXs which work very well, when combined with the right setup - I'll give them credit. I "pud pull" over anything which I believe is capable of providing a particularly sharp combination, it's nothing specifically about HTAs... unless you count the fact there are quite a few of them which are better matches between compressor, turbine, and to the engines we like- or at least should like if we're here as enthusiasts.

I know of HTA failures (as with GT, GTX, EFR and basically every type of turbo I know of people using) but on the same note, none of the guys I know directly have had one. A mate had an HTA3586 which he first fitted to his EVO in 2008 which was used for drags, time attack, off road sprints and street use and is now on an RB30DET (which I've referred to in the past) and the EVO guy replaced the HTA86 with an HTA82 for a bit more response. Both of these cars are built and used properly, and have been for YEARS, and are both very strong performers, and are a lot of the reason I am pretty convinced by these things performance. So, I've not specifically counted kms but I know ones which probably had been thrashed as much (or more) than your GTX has yet had thrashed before your GTX was even available to be bought, provided better power versus response than a GTX3076R will, and are still going strong now.

Regardless of all that, yes - your point is right - the HTA (and shock horror also the GTX etc mentioned) in the post are more expensive than the T67s, and they aren't proportionally better performing, but to expect that ... let alone to focus specifically on one and not the other, is below anyone who isn't a blatant troll. At the end of the day we decide what we want to spend, what we think we're going to be happy ending up with, and decide if we can find a balance which is worth it cost wise versus result wise, unfortunately the cost goes exponential as we strive for better overall performance.

The old T67s are by all accounts really good units, especially for their price - different people have different views on what is acceptable so it's really hard to have this kind of conversation with people, one person might find the lag/operating rev range of anything worse than a GT2835 unacceptable and on the other hand I know people who find T51R's perfectly acceptable. Two T67s however, that's a whole pile of silly haha.

On that we can definitely agree.

Will be interesting to compare this BW turbo with the GTX45 builds I have coming up... Hopefully it lives up to the hype. :)

We don't agree on everything, but it feels sporting and at the same time I don't think we're on different pages either :D

EFR9180? That is certainly not going to compare with a GTX45, a GTX4088R (or really somewhere between that and a GTX4294R) would probably be the closest comparison you could get from the Garrett line - but still be very interesting to see how it performs!

^ Agreed.

Although I would have thought Super 94 and EFR9180 would have been a closer match... Either way, BIG power setup! Looking forward to some more EFR results!

    • So could it be assumed it has been installed intentionally with potentially a power FC boost controller kit?
    • Had my rig on Matt's dyno at PITS the other day. After a few years between tunes I added a few sensors and swapped intercoolers. Result. 553hp at 26psi. Not bad for an FJ20 that was built in 2007. The problem.. It filled the overflow bottle on hard runs which leads me to believe the head gasket isn't sealing. I have a coolant pressure sensor which was reading cap pressure at 22psi and occasionally overrunning to 23/24 psi on deceleration after a pull. It was not spiking. It has arp2000 head studs and a cometic gasket. As its been 18 years in service, I pulled the engine out and head off. Everything looks good but we obviously have an issue. Where I'm at.. Years ago I had the same issue, I checked the stud tension and they were all over the place. Some at 60 to 70 and some up near 90. I nipped them all to 100ft lbs and this stopped the water push until now. I believe this compromised the gasket back then. What do I do? 2 options are..  1) I bought arp 625+s, which I could put in with a new gasket. Thinking Kameari this time, reassemble and try again. 2) strip the block, get fire rings machined in with copper gasket and try that. I do not want to push it more than 28 to 30psi. I think the turbo will be out by then anyway. (G30-770). My other concern is the long term ability of a copper head gasket. Are they streetable for years? I feel like a new gasket with the new studs will probably suffice, but I don't know. Any thoughts welcome and advice on copper gaskets and fire rings. Thanks!
    • I'm a fan of the JZX110, and the Aristo. Big cruiser cars, and with the factory cars, super comfortable and feel like you're driving an armchair! And the JZ motors are a pretty nice engine too, especially with some basic mods.   The import process, and the need to be able to trust people, and the fact there's so many scammers around is what ever puts me off wanting to go through that ordeal!
    • I don't care for these at all, but at least the underside looks straight and not rusty. A good basis for a long life. Many cars from Japan have been lifted with forklifts and f**ked almost irrepairably.
    • Yes, but it's not dumb or dodgy. You can build a perfectly good boost controller from a pressure reg, a relief valve (looks same same as a reg if all from Norgren or SMC, for example) and a check valve. I ran one for years. Only superceded with  EBC because I could get one for cheaps and wanted finer control.   THis mod is certainly not a sketchy boost mod, provided the boost is kept below the "spin to death" threshold of the turbos.
