hi,

yesterday my 2 mates, went looking at weckers for some parts for his ae86 and also a 4age. Both weckers which they went to treated them like shit, and *** them around. For example they ask one wecker if he had a 4age engine, and he reply with "no" but the car he was standing next to had a 4age engine in it. They also ask the price for a stock wheel and were reply with the price of "$100".

So after that they basicly gave up and stop looking.

I think this is pretty unfair considering they were only treated like that cuz of there age.

Can you requirment anything we can do to get a different attitude from the weckers, as my friend really needs to find some parts for his 86.

Thanks Mike

Mikey , a lot has to do with the attitude of the younger generation..

$100 for a wheel?

You talking steering wheel or roadhweel?

Just cos he was standing next to the vehicle doesnt mean the engine was for sale.

Cheers

Ken

Strich9ine, yeah i know that is the real world but my friends are having troble soucring the parts he needs so, i just wanted to know if anyone had an opinion on what i could do to help them find the parts.

and ken yeap was a steering wheel, i might head down with them next time and see what happens

Dude,

I guess you've got to think what your mates would have said when given retail price for a RWD 4AGE these days - which is around 1200 bucks motor only. If it was anything along the lines of "That much?" or "My mate bought one..." then you've got your answer.

Jash

well it all depends on how they acted aswell if they just walk into a wreckers asking for crap they hav no idea about or asking stupid questions they will get stupid answers im sure if they went in and knew wat they were talking about and the exact pieces and names of the stuff they wanted then they would be treated as if they are actual customers

show that you hav cash and are serious or get sum1 else to go for you

You could try saying "the wreckers down the road treated us like crap, so we thought we'd give you guys a go" or words to that effect. They know that they're in a great position to make their competition look bad, and it also shows that you're willing to leave if they treat you badly. I was in a similar situation looking for parts for my old Commodore a few years ago...

The sad fact of the matter is that, even if you and your mates are good blokes (and I have no reason to doubt that), a large amount of 17-18yo's that go into wreckers are wankers. Go in with the right attitude, know exactly what you want, be polite and if they still treat you unfairly, go somewhere else.

If your treatment was particularly bad, and/or you really want to get something from that particular yard, make sure you get the name of the staff you dealt with, and ask to speak to the manager. Explain to them that Fred was very unhelpful and was rude/condescending/whatever, explain what you're trying to achieve (ie buy an engine) and that you're willing to do it NOW. If you don't have any joy with the manager, say "you just lost a sale", then turn around and walk away.

Or you could just take a parent or two as mentioned above... preferably dad, mum will probably get similar treatment to what your mates have already experienced. Unfair but very likely.

...a large amount of 17-18yo's that go into wreckers are wankers.

The wreckers are generally pretty busy, and no doubt they get plenty of the affore mentioned clientel just wandering, talking alot of cr*p then leaving, not having bought anything. - anybody whos done any work in a joint retail/customer service job will be able to relate to that. - As mentioned before, know your stuff WELL, don't waffle on a bout sh*t that he probably doesn't need to know, and you'll normally get along just fine.

on the other hand there are some guys that just don't like kids..... Hard fact of life. Best of luck with the car though :D

    • Nice shot! They look super clean. The roof rack delete on the black one is interesting. Would like to see more pictures from different angles. It's subtle but could make quite a difference to how the car looks in profile.
