  • 5 weeks later...

Car is still here, still slowly ticking things off the list, fuel line is sorted for now, just going to run standard injectors and rail for the meanwhile , then either go for a top feed setup with 666cc injectors or cut the ends of the standard rail and weid an fitting on and put sti yellow injectors (really cheap here in nz and bolt and plug straight in as i've been told)

had another go at tig welding, welded the throttle cable bracket together, my tig welding is slowly getting there, love it so much more than the mig. still need to make up a proper bracket due to i just welded the old shitty one the old owner must of made up to a 4mm thick plate with a few holes in it

Got around to heat wrapping the downpipe and wastegate pipe, just makes everything look so much cleaner

Air temp sensor fitting and bov adapter welded on to the intercooler pipe by a friend now the piping is all done. heater lines are all hooked up and ready to go.

alternator is all mounted, for some reason i've misplaced a box of parts it seems like it, can't find the radiator lower mounting bushes, alt adjuster bolt, shit loads of nuts and bolt, so had to go buy new parts or make stuff up knowing my luck ill finish the car and find all of them in the most stupidest spot.

im at the stage of sending the car away to wiring but cant at the moment because the wife need a new car, so once that over it can be sent off but while i wait i've just been touching up the small things eg wipers, painting parts/wheels, mounting overflow bottle etc...

    • Possibly avoid using a Cometic one unless the deck/head surface are perfectly flat. I did have a look just then and forgiving gaskets such as Tomei or Nitto don't exist for the FJ20, however the Bar-Tek or Kameari ones look good and might do the trick.
    • Because pipe threads for pipe things. M threads for bolt things. Throw some teflon sealant onto it and dust your hands off knowing you did the right thing, instead of going twice around the block to achieve a result using the wrong things. Of course, all of these solutions are ignoring the fact that the minimum thread pitch we're talking about here is 1.25mm, with the 1/4" in NPT or BPS being out around 1.4mm. You will need to know that the boss you're tapping has enough thickness for at least a few threads. That's one of the reasons that 1/8" is commonly used - because the pitch is <1mm. And why would you look to use 1/4" NPT in a BSP country anyway? Ugh.
    • Just throwing around ideas, does it need to be in the compressor cover? Why not the hot side piping?
    • 1/8NPT drill size = 8.7mm. Since the hole got messed up by me, it’s probably around 9mm.    So 1/4” NPT would be next step. A drill size of around 11mm would be preferred there which is not way of my M12 (drill 10.5mm and tap M12 threads)
