I AM HAVING TUNING PROBS WITH MY SERIES 1 GTST. I WOULD LIKE TO SWAP OUT SOME PARTS TO ISOLATE THIS VERY ANOYING ISSUE MY MECHANIC CAN'T WORK OUT($900 LATER). I NEED A S1 AFM, A SET OF COIL PACKS AND AN IGNITER TO TEST WITH FOR 10 MINS. I INVISAGE DRIVING TO YOURS, SWAPPING THE BITS GOING AROUND THE BLOCK AND THEN GIVING YOU HEART FELTS THANKS AND PROBABLY SOME DOLLARS/SLABS OR IF INTERESTED A WEEK OLD UAS COLD AIR INTAKE AND O2 RUSH RACE POD. BIT OF A LONG SHOT BUT I'M SURE SOME POOR BASTARD HAS BEEN IN THIS POSITION BEFORE.

THANKS GUYS

STEVE. 0411 403081 [email protected]:)

yeah if you post your problem we could give you an idea.

but first thing to check is your plug gap if your runnig over 8 psi this should be sewt to .8 mm not the default 1.1 mm.

if the idle is bad and inconsistent ie going from 1000 rpm to 2000 rpm then your afm could be the culprit.

also the coil packs and the the ignition apmlifier if the car is running rough. the crank angel sensor could be the problem if yua re loosing power over a certain boost. factory timing should be @ 15o .

nex t I would be looking for a mechanic how knows skylines cause this guy obviously doesn't .

last one is to check the cooler piping is ok.

meggala

All pipes/intercooler pressure checked , correct heat range (7)and gapped plugs, reset ecu, Manifolds checked and tightneed, turbo removed and checked. Dynoed and mixtures seem solid at 11%(S-AFC installed and waiting for tweaking). When its warm(weather wise) it will pull through the rev range smoooth and hard in all gears, when its cold(weather wise), starts missing as it pulls higher boost even in second(high boost means 10psi in my case, no where near factory cut off). AND, fuel pressure tested under load OK and boost gauge tested as well?????? I tell ya it annoying but at least I know whats NOT wrong with the buggar!!!:D

  • 1 year later...

I Have the SAME Problem as this... Cold = Miss, Hot = Fine!

I Tried a BOOST Controller and its WAY Worse (even at stock boost levels) !!! I thought it might be the Ignition module not being able to handle the extra boost from cooler air???

I currently have .75mm gap which makes it drivable... but, on a 20deg day it misses under 60% > 100% Throttle (around 4500 RPM+)... on a 25+ day it does not miss a beat...

the_tonkau: if you manage to fix this PlEaSe! let me know what it was as I am in a simular position... no parts to swap... no mechanic who knows.... etc etc...

Could be a lot of things and maybe a combination of two issues but my fix was(after lots of piss farting around, a faulty ignition module that was breaking down at higher boost! Dr Drift at BMT Motorsport (www.bmtmotorsports.com.au) found the problem!

Good luck

Steve

Needless to say it is been shaming SS Commodores and the such, left right and centre since the super mega drifto tune! Hey Dr, when you putting the NoS bottle on the BMW?...haha hehe hoo hoo....Shit I'm funny.

Easy.

No, unless you made one up out of a Sultana Bran packet, but I don't think that would be a great conducter of ..........."currents"........hahahaha !! hehe

Once again...DR DRIFT @ www.bmtmotorsports.com.au" DO IT!

Nightman,

The funny 'the_tonkau' used our last igniter module, but I still have a spare AFM, CAS, coil packs, etc if you want to try and find the problem...

The most common mis-fire problem I've seen is plugs, follwed by coil packs, follwed by CAS, followed by igniter module...

Doc.

  • 3 weeks later...

How much are all those parts to replace, Doc? I may have to visit u next time with Lucky in his Slug of a Soarer :(

I have the same problem, and only running 11psi, and getting my ass kicked @ the lights :) Definatly losing power

    • Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree. If you hit an animal, check on it. https://www.ifaw.org/au/resources/wildlife-rescue-app An app to get the closest wildlife rescue contact.
    • My dream is also to have a proper hoist, but I don't think it will ever happen. My quickjack is probably as close as I'll ever get, it really is very good though.
    • Yeah we keep on in the dailies, it is pretty poor how many animals get hit and the driver leaves without checking....have saved a couple of little ones over the years. Bit of a gruesome job though, pouches generally need to be cut open because they are so tight and often the joey doesn't realise mum is gone so they are still locked onto the teat. I checked the modules in front of the DS wheel where an oil cooler should go.... There is the radar unit - that can go for race use) One of the 2 HX water pumps, the silver cylinder. That needs to be kept but might be able to be relocated But the bad news, the big computer mounted vertically in front of the wheel (blocking any potential air exit) is the electric steering computer. That is required until/unless i do a hydraulic steering conversion, and in CAD based modern car design it is not like I can just pop a big unit like that somewhere else (plus the loom would be too short anywhere else too). So, the passenger side is OK to clear out (just use a smaller washer reservoir, potentially elsewhere), but the DS no beuno
    • Well, all the best with the new camry It was interesting to hear about the UK process, it is generally a lot more streamlined here with a shipping agent looking after all the import side (noting the exact final price can still be a surprise.....) and I've used a few different brokers on the japan (or US) side, and never had any trouble with any of them....luck of the draw I guess. You mentioned you didn't get the auction sheet (understandable since you bought it from a dealer, not auction), but I always try and get hold of that because they are pretty thorough. I've imported 2x R grade vehicles over the years and both were fine, repairs in Japan are pretty thorough compared to here in Oz.
    • BTW I measured the jack I have, it is 70mm at the saddle but you only have about 700 until it returns to 150mm high at the cylinder so it is good but no magic bullet.
