Alrighty then

Grab a coldy and take a seat, I have a story to tells ya, and then maybe some Photo's (only if your good).

TL:DNR (go straight to the Pictures)

Almost 3 weeks ago my Sisters girlfriend (yeah I know right), married at least twice with 2 kids. I don't blame her tho cause I like the pussy too :P

I tells me mum it's heredity it's her fault (latent lesbo :P) and she tells me to shut-up and I'ma little shit - lol

Back on track - I caught up with my sister and her "significant other" who after trying to sell her dads (passed away in 2010 - god bless his sole) 1980 VC Commodore for $1k to the lawn mowing young fella. At first he said yep and then tried to talk her down because of "perceived" problems with it. "Oh it's pissing out oil, got a really bad knock etc..." So eventually she said fine - piss off ! .

She called me and said Dick your into cars. How'd you like my dad's old commodore ? and you know what a scavenging prick I am - I said maybe, I'll take a look, no promises.

So I go round to Sis's place and have a chat to her BFF. That's the commy do you want it ? How much I asks and she says I know your passion for cars and because my dad bought it new 34years ago and I know you love your cars you can have it. Free? Yep ! I have 3 I'm not sure I can fit another. No where to park etc....

Well I want you to have it. Do you think you will sell it ? Well I'll probs fix it clean it and sell it, is that an issue?

Nah - dads been dead 4 years or so and although reluctant I'm over it all and ready to move on.

Ok - No worries. I'll fix it, clean it and take you for drive in your dad's car - thanks heaps.

So for the last couple of weeks I've been working some Steeley magic on it.

Front callipers replaced, rotors machined, new pads, reconditioned rear wheel cylinders.

and replaced the windscreen which had a few stone chips

gave it a full service (fluids, plugs, filters, coolant)

Painted a few things in the engine bay like the airfilter

Some new bits from Rare spares like the overflow, some exterior window trims

The engine had been reconditioned to accept unleaded fuel, new clutch kit

VC has a genuine 140k kms on the body and 2k kms on the engine.

Drives awesome and has been really well maintained.

This is how it's turned out.

I want to drive and park near his place :P

-----------------------

Edit: The minor nock was a rubber muffler hanger - both on the same hanger. So put one of them on the opposite side hanger. I take it when the muffler was replaced an apprentice was lazy

the perceived pissing out oil was the washer on the sump plug needed replacing.

No Rust, Straight as an arrow, always garaged, one owner. He'd put covers on the seats, dash, mats, parcel tray and in the boot - so they all look like new.

The paint is a bit tired on the roof and has a few stone chips which I just dobbed touch up paint on (and a few coats of wax)

Then an awesome detailing (effort), tidying up the engine bay and some cosmetic parts from Speeds (Rare spares) .

Replacing the front brake callipers, BMC, machining and pads was the most expensive thing.

and a new windscreen.

Damn she drives really good too

Richard, I'm not sure that you're asking too much. If you're selling to a 20+ as a daily and something to lay rubber in on a Fri/Sat night well yeah it's too much but by the sounds of things it's more a Commodre enthusiast's car.

If it's as clean and straight as you say, and it looks, the right person will want it for the right reasons. Original cars, especially bloody Comodores, are hard to come by .. I guess it comes down to how fast you want to sell it.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
