When belts start making noise...

Recommended Posts

... how much life is left in them?

Over the past week or so, my belts have been getting louder and louder. Sounds like I need to have a 100,000km service done (even though my car is only reading 65,000 KMs), but how much time do I have up my sleeve? I'm guessing not a lot. :(

I was quoted $1100.00 to get all the belts etc changed.

The noise isn't a squeal, but it is constant.

I'll see if I can find a better quote and get it serviced ASAP.

Would you recommend going to an import specialist for this, or will a standard mechanic be able to do it?

An JDM RB engine is no more complex at the front than an VL Commodore (because an RB is an RB is an RB) - any mechanic can do it.

Constant noise is bad. The parts are cheap, probably cheaper than an VL. No more than 2 hours labout is needed.

Hey Tony,

You sound like a smart guy.

Would a GT35 40  off a new Ford turbo work well on an RB25?

I don't think I've ever been accused of that.

This has been discussed on the XR6 forum maybe?

Big snail as it's a T4 class turbo so it'll lag on a 25/26 but the power will definitely be there. Matched with mild cams like 256/264 it might be a goer.

I'd imagine that their availabilty will make them a possible upgrade choice.
