jnr_j,

To me it sounds like a dodgy contact on the starter or in the starter. More than likely it'll be a bad contact on the main starter leads, or in the solinoid itself.

I would suggest that you take the starter off, pull it to bits (I've done this to mine and it's easy), give it all a good clean and put it back together.

Took me about an hour to do all this.

Mine was over running (not disengaging when the motor had started), and cleaning it fixed it up perfectly :)

When i turn the key and nothing happens i can hear a click. Its not very loud but i guess it's the solenoid, sounds close to the dash. So maybe the problem is with the circuit feeding the starter power rather than the solenoid open/close circuit. When i turn the key the dash lights remain on but the clock display and acc power fade out. Is this the norm?

The "experts" seemed to think it must be a connection somewhere rather than the starter itself being screwed, just because when it finally goes it has no trouble, but didn't make much progress looking into it because they couldn't see it happen.

I might try Jay's suggestion of pulling the thing out. Here's hoping that makes a difference.

John

jnr_j - that click you hear might be coming from the solinoid. Get someone to stick their head under the bonnet next time it's doing it. If the starter is clicking but not starting the car, then that's your problem. It's a common problem in heaps of cars.

If there's someon on here with a white R33 with no rear wing, chopped springs, and lives in Gordon area, or was visiting that area Friday night...your a moron, i'm sorry, but really, you give a bad name to Skyline drivers. Tailgating, overtaking down and inside on an emergency breakdown lane, and just generally driving like an idiot.

Okay, i'm done now.

heh...saw a wingless white R33 in Mitchell, lowered...HAD to be the same guy :( He hammered it down the road, went tru the red light at the end, and had the car sideways up the hill...

Yeah, probably the same one :(

Why are there so many people who think public roads are their race track? There's a time and a place for driving your car hard, and a public road is not it.

Hopefully he/she calms down before they do some major harm to themselves, someone else, the car, or property.

Anyway, on a brighter note, i'm slowly working things out with my car. But, i've heard alot lately about 33's not able to be complianced yet? I don't know what the go is there, might fire Prestige an email and get him to fill me in.

Just got to talk to the bank, and offload my car. I think my mum/sister want to keep it...so that's cool, at least i know it'll be safe and i can see it still :(

Joe from Skyline Performance was telling me that they were going to be able to start importing again about a month after the SEVS came in. He also mainly deals with R33's, so u might be in luck Obseshn:D

there are a couple of RAWS workshops listed on the gov site...both in QLD though...but I'm sure it won't be long before more are up and running.

but the point is, as long as there at least one, you'll be ok :P

I got my car complianced in QLD.

  • 2 weeks later...

Have you guys seen the Red R32 GTR (With Black Bonnet & Gold Wheels) ???

That Thing looks insane...! (Wonder what sort of power it is putting out)

As Earlier mentioned my car is for sale - Anybody interested? - I might bring it out to a cruise... (Trying to keep K's down for sale)

Actually, Goran is only a member of Shogun and they cruz with us Elite guyz occasionally. His friend Luch has a similar powered TT Supra - both R outstanding! On a similar note...does anyone know the other burgundy R32 GTR going around with a few stickers and a big alloy t-wing?

    • Which solenoid? Why was it changed? Again, why was this done? ...well, these wear..but ultimately, why was it changed? Did you reset the idle voltage level after fitment? I'm just a tad confused ~ the flash code doesn't allude to these items being faulty, so in my mind the only reason to change these things, would be some drive-ability issue....and if that's the case, what was the problem? Those questions aside, check if the dropping resistor is OK ...should be 11~14 ohms (TCU doesn't throw a flash code for this) ~ also, these TCU designs have full time power (to keep fault code RAM alive), and I think that'll throw a logic code (as opposed to the 10 hardware codes), if that power is missing (or the ram has gone bad in the TCU, which you can check..but that's another story here perhaps).
    • Question for people who "know stuff" I am looking at doing the new intake like the one in the picture (the pictured is designed for the OEM TB and intake plenum), this design has the filter behind the front bar, but, the filter sits where the OEM duct heads into the front bar, and the standard aperture when the OEM ducting is removed allows the filter to pulled back out of the front bar into the engine bay for servicing, a simple blanking plate is used to seal the aperture behind the filter This will require a 45° silicone hose from the TB, like the alloy pipe that is currently there, to another 45° silicone hose to get a straight run to the aperture in the front bar Question: how will it effect the tune if I move the MAF about 100-150mm forward, the red is around where my MAF is currently, and the green would be where it would end up Like this This is the hole the filter goes through  Ends up like this LOL..Cheers
    • Despite the level up question, actually I do know what that is....it is a pressure sender wire.  So check out around the oil filter for an oil pressure sender, or maybe fuel pressure near the filter or on the engine. Possibly but less likely coolant pressure sensor because they tend to be combined temp/pressure senders if you have one. Could also be brake pressure (in a brake line somewhere pre ABS) but maybe I'm the only one that has that on a skyline.
    • Pull codes via the self-diagnosis procedure. As far as I can tell this is just a sign of transmission issues but not a code unto itself.
    • Hi All, putting the engine back together and everything is perfect except have this plug left over.. any ideas what it is for and where it goes? Is on cold side under the intake plenum *note not a stock plug, as everything has been modified Cheers
