Hey guys quick question stupid me.

for some reason my R33 gtr seems to not have the "Standard Brembo factory" brakes. mine have nissan ones.

were brembos factory all round.

also my R33 was registered as a 1997 R33 gtr.

97 should be around when S3 where made.

But mine is clearly a S2 i knew this upon purchase but just seems odd that a 97 mine is a S2 not a S3 unless it was made just at the start of 1997 before S3 came along. can anyone confirm the exact date/time they started S3 production? Could mine of been a in the middle of S2 and S3.

1/96 - 2/97 Is the build date for S2 GTR's.

2/97-5/98 is the build date for S3 GTR's.

There is differences between them if you don't know them. All R33 GTR's came factory with Brembos.

Only the R32 GTR came with standard Nissan brakes except if you have a R32 Vspec that is when they brought in Brembos.

To me it seems like the previous owner sold the brembos off as they can sell for a fair amount as an upgrade to other vehicles. But I am unsure why they would put just standard Nissan ones on as they are a downgrade. Probably to sell the car off and make money, not entirely sure on the reason behind the previous owner's actions though.

If your spending a bit of coin on upgrades (that is why we buy these cars) then I would suggest looking at getting some Brembos to begin with or if you have deep pockets you can buy some better kits starting from a few thousand.

That VIN was build in 10/97.

I agree, most likely the person you bought it from pocketed the $1000 for downgrading the brakes

Having said that the 32 brakes are fine for street use, and Ksport/ATTKD etc make good upgrades from about 2000

10/97 Would definitely be a S3 GTR. There are a few differences between series two and three.

The obvious one is the interior is red instead of blue but it could have been re-stitched.

A check you can do is with the rear of the car. The outer tailight of the set should only light up unless modified. And you will only have one reverse light on the left as the right side has a fog lamp, which is an orange kind of lense.

Found out its a common thing for people trying to get the most out of them when selling/ also happens at the auctions/docks in japan.

and if you got it for the price i did for the condition the body is in. and the engine leak down test/compression test results and also gear box after i fixed the clutch adjustment. you wouldnt care what brakes where on it. when im going to upgrade them anyways. i was just curious.

  • 6 months later...

I also have a s3 r33 gtr. I have brembo front calipers, but annoyingly have Nissan rear calipers. I assume the rear calipers were swapped for cash or whatever but the rest of the car is mint so the quest continues for original brembos [emoji4]

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
