I have trouble with the temp guage (I know its not that accurate) and stupid stock ecu...

on a cold night once the needle reaches the middle... I wait until its been there for a few minutes and try and give it a boot... sometimes it goes nicely all the way to redline but sometimes it hits boost cut... other times it retards the timing...

there is just no way of knowing if the car is really warm enough to boot (looking at the revs on my SAFC at idle is really the only way)

So my dilemma is really the stock ecu and its need to retard my timing or boost cut cos it feels like it... Is there a way around this without going the full ecu replacement...??? and the temp guage is a lying bastard!!! :D

Anyone else have this problem? (note: car runs like a dream on cold nights but only after 20mins of driving)

I'm not sure about your problem but I can help with when is your car ready for a boot!

Basically let it warm up until the oil is warm, and you can tell that by looking at the oil pressure guage, it will be around 4 on idle cold and 2 on idle warm

this makes sense... :)

yeah don't think I have a problem... just the temp guage is a really bad indication of when your engine has enough heat to be safely booted!

that and all the limiters the stock ecu has just annoy me... I would love a PFC or something that would just let me know when it sensed knock and not retard the timing... my ebc warns me when I've exceeded my preset boost limit (usually on cold nights> denser air etc)... but the ecu will just kick into overboost protection making that function on my ebc pointless

to many things on the car doing the thinking for me :)
