Hi guys first post!

I just bought a v35 and I'd like to put on an exhaust. I've looked at these two systems from Australian suppliers which seem very reasonably priced but I can only find audio of the ultrex one. It sounded great however. Has anyone got any experience with either or a recommendation?

What would an exhaust shop charge on average to install it?

Thanks for your time, I can't wait!

I haven't heard either, but you have to be VERY careful with exhausts - there is a fair bit of pot luck/combo variance involved - reason being there are so many variables. When you listen to sound clips they don't always disclose exactly what their setup is.

FYI, each of these individually can considerably change the note and pitch of your exhaust:

- stock vs aftermarket headers

- stock vs aftermarket high flow cats vs straight pipes

- stock vs aftermarket Y-pipe (including variations in Y-pipe design and where the Y joins)

- stock midpipe vs deleted midpipe

- stock vs aftermarket rear muffler

What you want to avoid is drone, and raspiness. Therein lies the beauty of the V35 - getting the right balance between note, volume, drone and rasp.

Just go for whichever exhaust seems to be of the best construction (go for full stainless if possible), and play with it from there. I pretty much guarantee you that you will not get it right the first time, but you can add in and delete different pieces along the way.

I have a combo that I am currently happy with:

- stock headers

- Kinetix high flow cats

- customised Megan racing y-pipe

- deleted mid pipe (3" straight through instead)

- stock rear muffler

You need to muck around and figure out the combo you like best - it is quite an individual thing. To give you an idea, I have had: various Y-pipes, dabbled with straight pipe/cats delete (= too raspy for my liking), aftermarket Chinese rear muffler with Titanium look tips (very low internal quality - I blew the guts out of it in one track day, after which it was VERY loud), I had an Apexi exhaust control valve at one point, 3 different mid-pipe resonator setups.

Custom stainless is by far the best, that way you can decide how loud you want it and tuck it up much closer to the body. Fitting is also included in the price.

Never heard of either of those brands, but most kits come in from China with low quality components to keep the costs down. Hardly anyone makes decent quality exhausts in Australia anymore.

If someone needs them I have a set of V36 headers here, they shit all over the V35 exhaust manifolds...

3.7L headers, they are true 3 into 1 tube design, not log like the 3.5L. They won't just bolt to the 3.5 cat though, you would need the 3.7 cats to bolt them on, or custom decats/highflow cats.

I was hoping to make a jig for the 3.7 cats and make decat/highflow kits to convert over, but I just haven't had the time.

Ah right....thought the VQ35HR and VQ37VHR headers are around the same. Was told the 35HR OEM headers are pretty much equal length and no point of changing them out... 35DE on the other hand does not have equal length from factory so changing it may give some gain.

You could be right, I have only checked out the DE closely. The HR likely has the better headers to help with flow at the top end.

are they stock oem 3.7L headers?

Yes, surprisingly good design for an OEM header.

Would anyone be interested in a group buy from Kinetix in the states? I'm in QLD.

I want to order some cats and a plenum

If you're in QLD, there's a muffler shop in Brendale that does really good custom work. A couple of QLD members have used them. it's either Mac's Mufflers or Fat Pipes. Can't remember for the life of me right now. Full custom set up, just the way you want it. Pricier but you pay for quality and perfection.

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
