Hey guys,

Recently did some bracing and a half cage for my 33 gtst and this has increased rigidity/feedback from primarily the rear of the vehicle which is great, but now making the front lacking.

Have always felt the 33 front to be mush but it is now really highlighted, pushing me to do something about it sooner than later.

Currently front end only has the nismo strut brace.

Has anyone done any seam welding around the front half of the car to help rigidity ? Any opinions/feedback on it and recommendations where to seam weld exactly ?

Also looking for any form of front bracing etc as well, so if there's any feedback/opinion on that, i'm all ears.

Car is street rego'd so not going full cage. Primary use is track however. Circuit car, not drifter.

Front grip level is 245/45/17 nitto nt01, ARB coilovers etc etc.

Cheers :)

P.s. i currently am thinking of getting the front fender braces, and maybe welding some form of bar across the front two hooks to further tie the chassis rail ends together ?

I made up some front under-fender braces; ugly as sh"t but who cares, you never see them, and combined with using a one-piece Ultra Racing strut brace rather than the bolted-together type, the front feels wayyyyy more solid on the road at highway speeds...not something you feel just driving around but once you get a bit of speed up, very worthwhile.

I've thought about making up a set of these for my track car. Given mine is already very nose heavy, I'm reluctant to add any more weight to the front. However, if they offer a reasonable improvement, I might reconsider. Wonder how much effect they'd have if you already have a weld-in cage?

Thanks for the feedback hardsteppa!

The fender braces is definitely on my to do list...seems easy enough to do and actually does something.

I'll be looking to get these:

further to this, spent some time over the xmas break doing some more bracing on the front. The car is really nice and stiff now anyway from previous bracing done but mid-section of the car across the front seats feels the soft point now as far as chassis flex goes.

So, pulled the seats out and did some spot-welding along the centre bracing that is in there from factory.

Then made up a brace to run underneath the car to box in the transmission tunnel. The brace bolts through the floorpan on either side of the factory bracing bar; theory being this will complete it as effectively 'one piece' running across the car now rather than missing in the middle.

Initial thoughts are it does feel a little flatter/solid early in the turn-in but really haven't had the chance to give it a good drive yet.

While I wouldn't expect it to transform the car or anything, it should help, similar to a canoe using the same type of cross-brace along it's length to keep it rigid and box it over rather than having it open-sided.

    • Impossible to remove the housing while turbo is installed on the manifold on the engine. So I have to do it anyways. I plugged it so there will not be any debris in there. Will vacuum aswell
    • would a r34 gtr hood line up with gt/gtt stock fenders? after latch, front bumper and hinges are swapped for gtr ones? or would the fenders be too low or high in relation to the hood surface? ( I believe seeing somewhere that gtr front fenders use some type of riser for the sides, but do not know how that relates to stock gt/gtt fenders.)
    • You just need to remove the compressor housing, not the entire turbo. I would not be drilling and tapping anything with the housing still on anyways.
    • So, I put my boat on a boat. First of all, I'm going to come out and say it. Why is Tasmania not considered a holy goal, an apex that all road-legal modified cars go to, to experience? This place is an absolute wonderland of titanic proportions. If people are already getting club runs for once in a lifetime 30 person cruises to Tassy then I've never seemed to see it. It is like someone replaced the entire place with an idyllic wonderland for cars, and all of the people living there with paid actors who are kind, humble, and friendly. Dear god. After doing a lap of almost all of the place I've found that it's a great way to find out all of the little things that the car isn't doing quite right and a great way to figure it all out. All in all, I drove for 4 hours a day for a week and nothing broke. I didn't even need to open the engine bay. This is by all means a great success, but it has left me with a list of things to potentially address. I also now have a 3D printed wheel fitment tool which annoyingly hasn't got any threads in it to actually assemble it. I might be able to tape it together to check the sizing I actually want to use, but it'll likely involving pulling the shocks out to properly measure travel at least at the front, and probably raise the car while I'm at it, at least in the rear. I scraped on quite a few things and I'm not sure how else to go about it. I was taking anything with a bump at what felt like 89 degree angles. And address those 10 other tasks. And wash the car. God damn it is dirty. And somehow, the weather was perfect the entire time - And because I was on the top of Mt Wellington it turns out it was very much about to freeze up there. I did something I typically never do and took some photos up there in what must have been -10 and the foggy felt like suspended ice, rather than mere fog. If you own a car in Australia, you owe it to yourself to do it.
    • Damn that was hilarious, and a bit embarrassing for skylines in general 😂 vintage car life ey. That R33 really stomped. Pretty entertaining stuff
