Hey I'm just wondering if there is anyone here that has purchased an R32 GTR or any modded car for that matter interstate and the processes for registering it in South Australia.

The car I'm looking at is close to standard looking (not lowered, clean as). Engine has been modded though. Will post a list of mods if needed.

If anyone could tell me how difficult it would be to get it through inspection and what they're looking for exactly that would be awesome!!

I'm new to the GTR game and I need as much info as I can get!! Any tips at all are greatly appreciated

Cheers

The inspection you have to go for isn't checking for mods, roadworthy etc - it is just a "serial number check". It is in a different facility to the Regency Park "pits", although it is at Regency Park.

I've taken a number of cars through there in recent years, the latest a few weeks ago. If they see anything that stands out, they are likely to send you to the pits for a mechanical inspection, so it's in your best interests that the car looks as legal as possible. I would suggest no coilovers, not too loud (although a Lambo was there the other week it hurt my ears), no oil leaks, not too low, good tyres, clean etc. I think it also depends if the guy doing the check got any the night before or not, and there is always the attitude test to pass. Not sure how old you are but less likely to have problems if you are middle aged than young - a couple of the cars I've taken in have belonged to my son and they didn't seem to look very hard at them.

In SA all grey imports (not sure if this R32 is or not) need to have the VIN stamped onto the body - I took a Soarer through a few years ago, it was still registered in Vic, but they made me go and get the VIN stamped on one of the front shock towers before they would pass it. Surprisingly there was a mechanical workshop next door who advertised VIN stamping for more dollars than it was worth, so I suspect this is a common issue. Make sure it's stamped n before you go in.

When I was there a few weeks ago they tested the side window tint on someones car - not sure if they passed it or not but it shows that they do look for things that aren't quite legal.

Cheers for the help lads, doesn't seem as bad as what I first thought.

I've messaged the guy and the VIN is stamped on the firewall so should be okay with that.

If I run into any problems I'll be sure to post here and let everyone know :)

    • @GTSBoy This method was able to get readings of -10 to -2, so it looks like its monitoring.  Now I need to figure out why the vacuum on the line provided isn't alternating with manifold pressure.  I went with 2 lines that an RB25 tuner recommended but I'll get a longer hose and try directly off the back of the manifold.  He may have been used to OEM intake setups while I have a DBW setup that removed the MAF and IACV.
    • I work at a car detailing and tinting shop called Quark which gets all manner of German cars in usually (mainly due to a contract with Mercedes Benz Kita Osaka, BMW Nishinomiya and others) but every once in a while something special comes in, like a fully restored 1972 HS30 Nissan Fairlady 240ZG... The shop owner had immediately started applying film to the windows as soon as it was in the shop so the interior was completely covered in towels and plastic sheets. But I could get a few photos of the engine bay which was restored like new. Such an amazing car to see in pristine condition in Japan these days.
    • Was going to say the car pulls up nicely everywhere, especially going into that last long right hander before the main straight. Looks like a lot of fun.
    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
