Hi,

Looking to replace the coils in my Stagea, I've got some yellow jacket coils from a spec2 R33 GTST which I tried to fit in my S1 Stagea but it didn't run right and overheated the trans? I don't know how the coils related to the transmission overheating but that only happened when the yellow jackets were fitted.

I was looking on Nengun and it shows the coils for a Stagea being different from R33 spec2 coils, shows them as being the same as R32/R33 GTR coils. Can someone confirm this is correct as the listing on Nengun also shows the engine code for the Stagea as RB25DE.

Thanks

That Hitachi chart looks wrong. Yes DE and DET are the same but should be the same as R34GTR not R33 GTR

Ref their Splitfire chart instead. You need SF DIS 005

http://www.nengun.com/splitfire/super-direct-di-ignition-system

or you can get then in Australia from:

http://www.kudosmotorsports.com/catalog/splitfire-m-45.html

BTW the Yellow Jackets for S2 R33GTST should have fitted your S1 Stagea (although they could have been faulty)

ref YJ RB2526-S2

Hallo bud, as above, the spec 2 r33 gtst coils should have fitted. (You do have s1 rs4?)

Where did you get the yellow jackets from?

They're not necessarily the cheapest but autoextreme can sort you out some decent ones.

Just whatever you do - don't get benchmark ones! I know of more sets that have failed than work lol.

Yea it's a S1 RS4

I can't remember who I bought them from, a UK based tuner probably - would have been about 4 years ago.

Will give autoextreme a look, thanks.

I've never heard of that brand lol. I've been on skylineowners for a while so tend to read up on stuff there, it's just people on here know a lot more about the Stagea.

just get standard coils from kudos motorsport. they are the same price as splitfires.

I'm in the UK so import taxes would make them more expensive.

I put a different set of yellow jackets from my mates R33 in which ran fine but I think the plugs maybe part of the issue.. It'll accelerate fine for the most part but will have a rapid misfire under boost/hard acceleration. I'm going to double check everything else that I've messed about with too (loosening of pipes to get at coils and the 2 stage high boost mod).

If you are using copper plugs they should be something like NGK BCPR6ES but whatever gap them down to 0.8mm. To properly check for boost leaks make up a plug and pressure test to about 20 psi. If its dying under hard acceleration it could be R&R (look it up if you are not familiar with the term Rich and Retard) caused by too much boost.

Great make shift funnel when you cut the bottom of it off. This may work for your Corolla.   Unfortunately, tipping a 10L drum is much harder than a 4 to 6L bottle, and they no longer include the easy pour tap which was just perfection to use previously.
    • Guys since i bought r33 gts25t coupe 1994 automatic a/t(manual swap 350z gearbox)  all i got is problems, always problems. Lets start with that when i turn key into ignition(ON) fuel pump doesnt always works. Sometimes i have to turn key twice Off/on/off/on until it primes. Its new, dw300 - 340lph. My gearbox broke so i did gearbox swap, install different intake manifold, injectors and i take pipes. Car was sitting in garage for more than half a year. I did assembly all not that long ago and when i turn ignition cant hear prime. All of sudden it stopped working. Theres many videos on YouTube how to make relay mod on r33 straight from battery so i did and it doesnt work! 😰 30 - battery positive  87 - positive from fuel pump to relay 85, 86 - one of two wires from original fuel pump wires(light blue, grey) and it didn’t work. so I check on ignition and took original BLUE relays wires from trunk, next to fuses. (I believe it’s IGN+ and ECU pin 18. it didn’t work…  tried connecting (IGN+ from og relay) and (ECU 104 from 1of4 FPCM wires) to my new relay 85/86 and it didn’t work.  I unplug FPCM. Didn’t work. im thinking what’s wrong   fuel pump is working, if I leave IGN+ on 85 and 86 straight to ground it works but it’s just nonstop. Since it getting constant 12v after key in ON. light blue wire gives me 6-8v.  so how this should be connected? What causing ECU not giving — on pin? Or I did sth wrong and that’s why it doesn’t work? I need negative signal on ECU that control fuel pump. What this should be?
