i think for air pods you need to get a permit. i hear its cheap too.

steve

incredulous!!!!..........and if your car came out with one fitted...........?

Thanx man.

while we are here.....are air-pods illegal? anybody?

I could tell they (the police) didn't like my big TRUST one too much, its just that they didn't say anything. (it was more of a 'ponder' over it. you had to be there!)

Any filter without a cover is defect because it can catch fire.

That's the reasoning - my mechanic told me why it's stupid- something to do with the fact EFI cars won't spit oil that way or something but thats why it's not legal..

Just put it in a box with cold air induction anyway :D

That's THE $75.00 question G-Toy.

I suppose it is the 'escape of air' that erks the authorities.

I've heard that u can purchase BC's that have a third connector that vents the 'air' back into the system. That must be legal!!! ....(on the above basis)?

Maybe 5-O just doesn't like any mods at all.

anyways............SS Mark

I don't think it's the air escaping it's the change to the emissions that more boost gives you. Like people are saying practically everything that increases your power is illegal but meh.

Everything in an import is illegal, didnt you know that?

Just get some longer bits of black hose and then put the bleeder back on and hide it down near the abs or somewhere out of sight.

right..........right, right, mmmm , right.............so importing Skylines was actually illegal up until a few months ago (before the new rules and stuff)?.

and........just as you create resistance with each meter of electrical wire used in a circuit, so too you could expect a loss/lack of response with longer pieces of pressure piping (?)...PHATR32 was hinting at this theory.

anyways..............ta. :headspin: :D

woah, up the Lateral thinkers..............

That makes a lot a sense AB...it all seems so clear now. (At least that could be used as an arguement, on the authorities side!! (damn!)

By the way AB, how's that info on the 'circular shiny recordable medium'? Ace, is it not?

Thanx man. :D

easier solution is to get 4 bits of metal, weld em together to make a box, cut 2 holes in the box and place the bleeder inside that and run the 2 hoses through the holes and have a screw down top so the bleeder is out of sight. Paint it black so it blends in with everything else. Then you have out of sight bleeder, coz having it ionizied makes it stand out like a black man at a KKK meeting!!!!

i like your thinking, should keep the 5-O guessing the next time!! :D

I was told by the QLD police that it does not matter what the QLD Dept of Transport say, anything that is fitted to any vehicle that does not come as stock or an optional extra from the manufacturer, is illegal and is a defect.

Some police just seem to play more on this law than others, my 2c worth.

You should ask them if your stereo is illegal too as you upgraded it and wasnt available as an option.

I got pulled over again the other day (2nd time in 1 years) , they actually spun a u-turn and chased me and it was funny watching them weave in and out the other side of the road just to get to me.

Pop the bonnet he goes, but ive got everything legal, no Blow off, all blocked off which he noticed, he wanted to look underneath my boxed up air-filter, i said yeah you can if youve got an allen key. I said its legal!!!. The only thing he handled was the bleed valve, he didnt say anything but it looks a little suss with blue hoses. Good idea to get black hoses and hide the bleed valve in the boxed up air filter.

frickin A............HERE, er um, HERE.

or is that HEAR, HEAR? :D

Probably, hey a mate has been defected for car seat covers before so I would not put it past them to try to!

Problem here in QLD, (I dont know about other states) but the Police and the Department of Transportation operate under two totally seperate sets of legislation, so you get a defect from the police, go to the DoT and they say it is legal and clear the defect, totally spastic!

Hey J,

yeah, I saw that article on 're-wired solenoid boost', so I got my multimeter out just to be sure and checked the output current/voltage and 'switch on threshhold' of the black and white wires....and guess what I found........It seemes that the article was wrong.(?)

If u cut the white (positive) wire, and attach that to earth, you will not have a complete circuit, nothing will work.....but you could potentially have  a new 'heater'! (if you earth the white wire while it is still connected).

That is why I have cut the black wire on the solenoid side and simply attached that to earth, and safely taped up the the other side of the black wire (socket side). When the solenoid finally dies from over use, I will just get a U-Shaped connector and place that where the solenoid pipes use to go. This is actually how my Skline is operating at the Mo.

Seems like a few other's Sklines are running the same too!!!!!!!!!!

Adjustable Wastegate Actuator sounds like an ace idea ($200...is that all?).........

Anyways.....thanx Skliner's. (and thankyou J-Flash!)SSMark    :)

I will rewire tomorrow and try.

I have had no running problems and boost still appears to come on a bit earlier.

I am now confused. Maybe someone can go more in depth. Not a tech head or a grease monkey, but I follow instructions well and I am careful with my work.

Please un cloud the water!

Cheers J-Flash :D

i dunno who your mechanic is but from what ive heard he has absoloutly no idea.

let me run this past you

Q: why are cars fitted with an airbox and in most cases a rosinator somewhere in the induction piping?

A: to reduce induction noise.

so having a pod filter which is not enclosed in some sort of "box" is illegal "due to the undue noise it emmits"

This is yet another crock of absoloute sh!t comming from the mouth of another "respectable and educated" employee of the government.

When you get present a car to get a defect cleared who inspects it?

the police?

i think not

You have to go to the RTA, EPA,AIS or AUVIS,

these are the people who are qualified to inspect a vechile and asses if its roadworthy or not. Not the police.

The police do not set the modification standards or any vechile related standards, ffs they dont even set the laws they are employed to uphold.

**** the stupid cops anyway, just because it's legislation doesn't mean it's this this this. Btw, if you ever want to talk to me about engineering vehicles, email me sometime or talk to me when I'm out, I could chew your ear off for an hour (lives and breathes cars). I could literally take a defect and hand it back to you saying how you could engineer and prove that it makes the car safer/better. Try me sometime. But, to the good cops reading this, pull me over if you like, just get prepared to have a nice respectful chat about engineering :)

Most cops are pretty ****ing stupid in my book, the ****s can't even drive LEGALLY let alone PROPERLY! I'd love to smoke there arse on a test track, BRING IT ON BITCHES!!!

    • Driveline vibration is resolved. I ended up loosening all my engine mount and trans mount bolts, giving it a good shake then retightening everything and it's gone... Let's just say I was surprised that fixed it.  I've been happily driving it around again but unfortunately put zero time into my direct port/constant pressure WMI setup. I'm on vacation next week, so I'll try and finalize it then.  On a different note, I spent all week fuel/ignition mapping 2x 216L V16 engines. Turbo's were burning glycol and we swapped them out for larger units. We also had planned emissions testing on site, so I figured I'd be there the same week to use their instrumentation and massage any emissions issues out if needed. This was a first for me. Fuel management is similar in certain ways to automotive (i.e air density as load variable) but very different in others. It's all PLC based and AFR's are controlled by air and not fuel. They use a control valve between the turbo and air manifold to control pressure which in turn controls AFR's. Due to this, target AFR tables supplied by the OEM are in pressures and not mass which really through me off. They use air pressure vs fuel pressure tables. I also relied on an O2 concentration sensor the emissions team had in the exhaust. Ignition timing was also all over the place and we were losing a fair bit of power. They're now happily sitting at 16-40BTDC depending on load. We were making about 1600kw at 900rpm at 90% load. Engines were running a lot smoother as well.
    • heh, aint no R32 ever meeting modern targa cage rules unless the driver is veeeery short OP, good luck with the sale, since its already in the land of freedom I'm sure you will find a good buyer.
    • meh, it was a good video, clear about the issue and how he dealt with it. A bit heavy on the RTV and very brave to put an RB in anything without rebuilding it first, but otherwise I thought it was good Dose, I'm not sure that having the pickup forward is a big issue; yes of course the oil could shift under brakes but the sump should never be empty enough for that to be a problem (unless you also have a higher volume oil pump, and that oil can't return from the head to the sump quickly enough)
