Hola

Hello everyone,

I've been around R31s for quite a few years, purchased my first R33 a couple of months back and love it. Already spent some coin on it, with much much more to come. Looking at making it a reliable 300kw street/track car.

It is a S2.

Currently has: GFB elec boost controller, GFB elec blow off valve, FMIC, 3" magnaflow exhaust, Extreme twin plate race series clutch, Tein coil overs, break upgrade

Planned: Larger turbo, plazmaman intake, upgrade ignition system, upgrade fuel system, aftermarket computer, E85, tune, upgrade suspension, eventually forged internals.

4th gear syncro is on its way out so ill throw a new gearbox in it next and then swap out the diff to a stronger LSD. should make for a reliable fun car. My target is 300rwkw.

Hey mate, welcome. Before you go changing gearbox, you may want to check how much oil is in there. Mine used to crunch into fourth at high revs and it turned out there was only 2.5 litres of oil in it when there should be 3.6 - 3.8 litres. I changed the oil and refilled with the right amount and the box has been beautiful since.  Worth a try before you go to the effort of changing boxes and obviously the cost of it too.

The mechanic that put the clutch in couldn't get the drain plug out of the box to change the oil, so there is a good chance it may be low, i might find a hoist, have a crack at the plug myself and throw some oil in there.

thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Got it on the hoist, took about half a litre of oil, took it for a drive and 4th gear is still troublesome, it is only at speed that it has an issue which is a little confusing, I can't engage 5th to 4th, but I can if I go 5th, 3rd, 4th.

drop in Nulon Smooth shift addictive, usually helps with these shit boxes (literally)..

Mine grinds in 2nd at 7k rpm, but a workaround is to bash the limiter and slip it into gear... 3rd and 4th grinds too, work around just shift as hard as you can "reef" it into gear LOL... #traklife

Yours looks so much cleaner than my shit box :)

Does it dose good?

    • Why are you so adamant on going M12? Why not follow Brad (GTSBoy) suggestion. You're talking moving from a 1/8" size, to a 1/2" effectively. 4 times bigger. Why skip the commonly available sizes in between? The bigger you go, the more likely you are to strip the threads out at a later date, as guaranteed, someone will put a huge spanner on the M12 and really tighten it up, and you're only in thin wall, so not a lot of threads to engage!
    • Hi. Yeah thanks. Car is already at tuners and it staying there to resolve "many" issues they do not like. So it is in a good hands. Getting a good tune on that Nistune ECU too so the car would be good. Just needs a little tune up and love.
    • Probably gonna remove manifold and turbo. I’m not sure if I can get M12 x 1.5 air tight. Could use high temp Loctite 246 or something similar, but I don’t know. Maybe it’s just best to remove everything again and weld an 1/8NPT on there instead.
    • Yeah, saw the ratios, not impressed. Would like the punch I have in the first gears now. With those ratios it won't be the same.  Also want the h pattern gearing, or at least a quiet gear set that don't need to come apart for service each year. Looks like the only "reasonable" way Is a 8hp70 transmission, but where is the fun in that🤷‍♂️
    • Hey mate, really appreciate the help. Have been looking pretty extensively myself and was certain they were retro fitted, but then ended up finding a 4 door with what looks like the same side skirts or at least the closest I’ve seen.
