GT2871R turbo

Hi guys i just picked up a 2871r .64.ar
I'm trying to find what the specs are for this turbo but I'm not having much luck regarding the followings ' what the efficiency range of the turbo is and also what the max psi it can handle also what would be a ideal psi to run ect..  Do feel free to give me your Advice on what I should do and what I should be looking at doing ect. I have only manage to find out little bits and pieces of information from what people are saying on different forums but nothing solid.


I'm looking to make 300whp but I would be pretty happy if i can make upto 350whp max.
I'll be putting it on a s15 sr20 
stock internals.

I only have the usual basic mods nothing too crazy. 

FMIC ' 550 injectors  ' Walbro 255 fuel pump' Haltec ECU will be retuned to 98 only ' RAS. Z32 AFM.

Also should i throw in a set of cams 256 cams ? I'm still debating if i want to or not because if i change cams then vct is gonna shit itself then i gotta spend money down the track replacing otherwise i'll need to delete it all together to save the hassle later. Is the power or benefit gain from cams worth the problems and money I have to spend on it ?. At the moment I'm just thinking of putting the new turbo on and retuning it and leaving it as is but I'm not sure what power figure ill be looking at ect.

Anyways Any Info regarding the turbo would be greatly appreciated

There is 3 compressor trim in the 2871 range : 48/52 and 56. You need to find the plate stamped on the chra and give us the part number.
The trim 48 is a ~300whp turbo from memory, the 52 a 360whp and the 56 can flow 400+whp on a good setup.


SR engine respond well to cams if you don't go too wild but for your power goal the turbo can do it alone. Adding cam will just reduce the amount of boost needed to do it.

So bolt the shit to the engine service the engine correctly tune it and enjoy it while it last. Power figure doesn't matter if you can't trash the thing.

I couldn't find anything with that P/N. It looks like a garrett part number for HKS turbo back in the days.

 

If you really want to know which one it is you'll need to remove the front cover and measure the compressor wheel minor and major diameter.

I tune plenty of SRs, you definitely need some cams.. the OEM ones nose over way too early. Poncams are the best option and run OEM springs with not too much boost and you'll be ok.

If I were you, I would sell that GT2871 fan boy turbo and get yourself a SS1.5 unit from Hypergear Turbos with the upgrades ball bearing core or a GTX2867R if you prefer the Garrett stuff. The GT2871 with Poncams will hit that 250kW mark but it's boring/laggy for what it is.. You won't get it all on till about close to 4000rpm and once you do get there you'll just fry tyres.

I recently did a S15 with just ARP headstuds, Tomei Poncams/Springs and she happily makes 270kW+ on E85 however we are having some valve float issues with more than 1.6bar of boost. I suspect it will go into the 300kWs if we can get more boost into it. This is with a GTX2867R and it's all in by 3700rpm :)

    • Hi...so a "development" here aswell The swap is "done" and car went "test drive" BUT it seems the clutch(maybe gearbox?) is a little bit sad? I bought this clutch kit https://justjap.com/products/xtreme-heavy-duty-organic-clutch-flywheel-kit-nissan-skyline-r31-r32-r33-push-type "Problem" is that the first gear is hard to put into and it seems that the clutch is not disengaged. It was not the problem with the old clutch...(or like sometime the first gear would not get as easy specialy when the fluid was cold) So? Can it be like...bad "install" or is the clutch wrong ((it should not have been) i done research to get the right one) Or is this "normal" with new clutch and needs to be break in?

    • Hey everyone, Wanted to pick some brains about this issue I'm having with rebuilding my 33 rack (PN is 49001-19U05). All of the tutorials/videos I've seen online are either R34 or S Chassis racks which seem to be pretty straightforward to disassemble but this process doesnt carry over to my rack. Few of the key differences that I've noted The pinion shaft on the other racks bolt on with 3 torx bolts: Whereas my rack bolts on with 2 allen head bolts: These changes are pretty inconsequential but the main difference is how you pull the actual rack out of the housing. The other skyline/s chassis racks can be taken out by tapping the rack out of the body with a socket and it just slides right out. I'm unable to do that with my rack because there's a hard stop at the end that doesn't let the seal/shaft be tapped out. Can also see a difference in the other end of the rack where mine has a notch that looks like you're able to use a big wrench to unthread 2 halves of the rack whereas the other racks are just kinda set in with a punch. My rack: Other racks: TLDR; Wanted to know if anyone has rebuilt this specific model of steering rack for the R33 and if there were any steps to getting it done easier or if I should just give this to a professional to get done. Sorry if this post is a bit messy, first one I've done.
