Sorry for the thread bump - but has anyone actually tried one of these?

I've been eyeing off alternator options - LS1 mount / pulley conversion, this ARD alternator and the one from Frenchy's Garage (https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/nissan-rb-high-output-alternator).

It's a bit of a struggle to figure out what's the best path forward.  LS1 conversion would mean I could fit any LS1 alternator - but they mostly seem to max out at 140A in a reasonable cost in Australia.  the Frenchy's Garage and ARD are 150A - which would be a good improvement.  I'd prefer to buy in Australia for warranty / support if I can.

Anyone have any thoughts?

There's a big thread on them - I bought and used and then sold an ARD 150amp alternator and it works exactly as it should, and bolts directly in, 100%, no dramas whatsoever in any way.

10/10 would use again except I... am doing a LS engine conversion so lol.

ARD150 definitely better than the OEM 80 one.

What do you need the 150A for that the 140A couldn't handle?

Honestly, it's mostly about getting as much amperage as I can get.

Big stereos are a massive burden on batteries and alternators - so I'm just keen to get something BIG.  Unfortunately, massive high-output alternators like you get in the US don't seem to be a big thing here (like 200-250-300A+).   It mostly seems to be limited to around 150A for skylines.   The LS1 conversion/mount option would leave open US LS1 options - but then I gotta deal with postage/warranty/etc.

Anyway all - thanks for the input you have :)

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!

    • Good time for a carbon roof
    • Not in any way aroused by any of those, except maybe the big AMGs. And that would break my never a Euro, ever, rule.
