APPARENTLY..

Don't quote me on this but I questioned tim at rpm and he told me that it should be able to run 16-17psi reliabily.

Due to the RB20det motor being smaller than say a VG30 and it doesn't consume as much air per second at max revs compared to the vg30 therefor the rpm speed of the shaft wont be as fast as if it were on the vg30.

Make sense.

What causes damage on the ceramic turbo's is the overspeeding (rpm) it will make the exhaust wheel seperate from the shaft.

I'm not sure how much boost will be able to run on the stock ic, in winter you will be able to get away with more boost than summer obviously.

Also make sure your fuel pump is up to the task as running say 12psi on the vg30 is like 14 on the std rb20 item.

Do an oil change when slapping the new terbs on also.

New fmic i would map the ecu to 16 or 17 psi depending on how the power levels go on the dyno.. Basically they set the boost for max power as more boost doesn't always = more power.

Be carefull if you have the stock fuel pump...

Might upgrade the pump then

Do you need one of those rising pressure regulators?

What are they for exactly?

They help when the stock injectors are reaching the limits of duty. The extra fuel pressure gives them an extra kick in the guts. They also tend to hold a more consistant rise in pressure than the stockie (which is also a rising rate but not adjustable).

Whatsisname has a malpassi with a bigger pump and got the stock injectors to push about 230rwkw.

hmmm, so your saying when i get my VG30 installed (soon) I'll have to up the boost a bit to compensate (to make it run like before)??

Also whats the theory behind the VG30.. is it bigger than the stocky.. or is it just stronger???

It's either a VG30 or an R33 turbo (not sure the model)

Preferences???

Cob@lt, welcome!

I remember chatting to you a LOOONG time ago on SDU.

The VG turbo is bigger AND stronger i think... i think it would be my preference over the two.

if you guys have no idea what i am saying, its cause i only read the last post. ;):D

You can run more boost on the VG30 because it is bigger and doesn't have to spin as fast to provide the same psi as the smaller turbo hence you are able to run it at a higher psi before it overspeeds.

It will make more power with less boost than the smaller rb20det/rb25det turbo.

Hey Prank (yeah i remember you ;)) & Joel

Anyway.. cool... ill be taking my beast to JMS next week to get the change over done (providing i can sell my mountain bike - is providing the funds). $800 all up for the VG30 non ballbearing and installation.

So if i run it at the same boost now.. (stock boost) will there still be a performance improvement...

I guess it just means that if i want to run it at 1 bar i can.. :D

Are the wheels made from steel or what??? or are they still ceramic in the VG30??

To many questions... but i want to make a good investment.. :D

When I did mine I measured the wheels and found the exhaust wheels are the same on the vg and the rb turbo's but the comp wheel is slightly bigger....the main thing is that the comp housing is much bigger on the inside with the vg over the rb housing thus allowing more air to flow at lesser turbine RPM as mentioned before. I have been running mine at 15psi since installing and have not had any problems. By the way I have a vg30 turbo for sale for 20k and I will through in my car for free:uh-huh: ;)

I had a VG30 turbo.....

Their great value for money i ran 12psi daily but i let go about

5000k's after installed due to oil flow problem.. LOL

Then i went to a T3/T4 and the difference inbetween the VG30 and

the hybrid is !!!!HUGE!!!!!!.... Guys im telling ya save up the cash

and go and get ya hands on a hybrid... Many R32 come over

with them on board now and they go for about $1,000....

They are worth their weight in gold....

What sort of boost were u running on the t3/4 compared to the vg30... AND...... ;) that t3/4 was using the std housing wasn't it.. AND... where (rpm) does it kick you in the back if you accelerate from low revs in second gear???

Lots of questions but it does give us a good indication :D

i.e the std turbo kicks at 3000rpm.

..just a question after reading through this thread. I'm putting 2 RB20DET turbos onto an RB30. These turbos are supposed to be ok up till around 14psi.

By what has been said on this thread - if I have the 2 of them then theoretically I should be able to run higher boost without fear of the turbo's crapping out coz each turbo wont have to flow as much air to reach the desired boost pressure - hence lower turbine speed? :burnout:

..yeah - less volume of air required per turbo to reach the desired PSI, which in turn means less work for each turbo to reach the desired PSI.

eg. how much air the engine will swallow determines how hard the turbo has to work to maintiain a certain boost level. With 2 turbos they dont have to work as hard to maintain that same boost level.

...thats what I understand from the statements above anyhow?

I ran 12psi on the VG30 and got like 150rwkw....

I then skuesed 17psi out of it and got 170rwkw....

The T3/4 starts to spool at about 2500rpm and then hits home at about 3500rpm.... At 3000rpm your on around 5psi and building but it spools fast once over 3000rpm the boost helps build the revs and in turn 17psi is reached and you are thrown back in ya seat..

So yes 3500rpm is fun time... But it only takes 1 second to get there... Much the same time is required for the VG30 to spool...

It is using standard housings... Well to a degree... The front half is nissan the rear is toyota.... Go figure... It cost me 3g's to have built..... But it is good for over 24psi.... I run 11psi daily and just touch it up for when power is needed... However 11psi is still enough to crap on most cars....

Guest nismogtsx

Max power i have achieved is 230rwkw on the standard auto...

5 months ago..... running 17psi with an iced cooler...

With the new cooler and manual trans going in over this next month i will be getting this as an everyday figure.... Hopefully the 250rwkw will be a twist of the bleed valve...

    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
    • Hey all  im wondering if you can help me please I have put a rb20 box in my r34 gtt as my auto packed up and a friend had a spare box I know it’s not ideal but it will get me up and running for now. we have done the conversation and everything is working great but my Speedo we got a s13 speed sensor but my Speedo reads double now and I bought a speed converter but still not having any luck.  so I thought I’ll reach out and pick your brains  any help would be appreciated please as I wanna drive my car again
    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
