Hey everyone, ive been reading up some old topics with a few mentions to the chaser. Around mid next year i'll be buying 1 of these cars id just like to get as many opinions with the good points and bad points of each, i know an insane amount about the JZX100 Chaser, not much i dont know about it and im pretty clued up on the R34 GT-t but i may have missed something. So if youd like to say which one youd go for and why thatd be good so hopefully i can weigh up both cars before ultimately making my decision. Im leaning 2wards the JZX100 Chaser right now for a few reasons but i also like the R34's a lot as well. Just keep in mind we are comparing an R34 GT-t 5spd to a JZX100 Chaser 5spd.

Thanks guys!

Are we talking r34 sedan or coupe? If comparing the sedan then i reckon the chaser is better looking, but the r34 can look pretty good with a bodykit but that means extra $$$ As far as mechanicals go, the 1JZ GTE is a strong engine good for about 600hp i think (correct me if i'm wrong) which would give it an edge over the RB25DET, but in the end it depends on what you plan on doing.

both 4 door turbo sedans.. pretty comparable in theory..

however ER34 is still in no class of the chaser keke..

but no way the jzx100..

interior, response, vvti and omg the torque.. drive a chaser and u will know..

only downside is that chaser is hard to find in manual.. r34 sedan is ok but nothing great.. still pretty crap compared to chaser and coupe..

on antoher thought..

alot of ppl i know reckon auto er34 is lame, i agree.. average and overpriced.. too lil car for too much money.. however.. auto chaser? luxury, 1jzgte = awesome cruiser ^^

jzx90 is even better too ^^

my 2cents

I was in the same situation as you. I had my next car choice down to an R34 Sedan or a JZX100 Chaser. I read 1000s of pages about both, and in the end I decided to get the Chaser. I feel the engine, looks and resale value (hopefully) are all better on the Chaser.

I'm getting an auto btw. I worked out that if I feel the need for a manual I can convert it. The manuals are so overpriced (or the autos are really underpriced) that you would be able to do a Supra 6 speed conversion on an auto one for about the same money or even less if you're lucky.

Also, in auto form the 99 Chaser (what I'm getting) has the performance advantage on paper - 378Nm vs 333Nm. That's quite a big difference. The R34 is slightly lighter, but when you're talking cars that weigh 1450kg and 1490kg, that's almost nothing.

Manual is a bit different though. The S1 R34 has 343Nm and the S2 363Nm, which is a bit closer to the 378Nm of the series 1 and 2 of the JZX100.

chaser jzx100 didn't look as nice as skyline, and didn't handle as good as R34.

Ugly(boring) interior/exterior

chaser don't have as much aftermarket parts as skyline.

they have more room, bit more comfortable, and better engine.

yes, i have driven both.

Yes I’m thinking about getting my self a new family car, I was thinking about a JZX100 Chaser, R34 Sedan, Stagea or an EVO 6 or 7

I’m thinking EVO and the wife is thinking R34 Sedan but the Chaser does look tempting, where is a good place for me to access info on the Chaser?

Actually the R34 GT-t does not have the traditional RB engine. It has the NEO 6 engine, which has proven to be more powerful than the RB25 but at the expense of reliability, i have seen NEO 6 engines easily pulling out 350kw with no dramas. The 1JZ GTE engine is by far the more reliable engine but im most familiar with it sitting inside a supra, not a chaser...

Go for the EVO 7 mate, 0 - 100 in 5.5 secs. Its also a 4 door so your wife should be happy. It can be imported for $40,000 now as complaince passed recently. If money is an issue the EVO 6 is cheaper and faster ( 0 - 100 in 4.9 i think) but they are ugly in my opinion

The problem with the Evo is its still a Lancer. Doesn't matter if you spend 40 (Evo 7) or 70k (evo 8) on it, the basic interior still smacks of a $20k econobox, and not a terribly nice place to be with a family IMHO.

How bout a Stagea.. :P

LW.

I dont know if i would consider recaro seats as "econobox", the momo eqiupment is also quite good, EVO 7's and 8's come with decent interiors in my opinion but dont compete with the space of most other sportscars on the market... i think they are the smallest 4 door cars you can buy, but still bigger than most 2 doors... and i dont think a family car agrees with a 2 door car, there is bound to be some space issues...

    • I can see between the water jacket and cyl 3 there wasn't a hard line of combustion gas. It certainly appears that the issue is coming from there. Yes, checked the tension. All at 100ft lbs where I set them 5 years ago. These blocks can crack but generally when they have been over bored. Mine is only 0.5mm oversize at 89.5mm. They break between cylinders around the 91mm mark. No sign of that with mine. My gut feeling is the head gasket lifted a while back when the studs stretched and i bandaided it by retorquing the studs. It's finally let go.

    • So, version 4 intake is on its way I was looking at these a while ago but at around $200 or more it was a little pricey for something that might not work, but, I had it in my watch list, but, I got a message saying it was on special, and I had a code thingie to use, it eventually came in at $120 delivered, so BAM, BUY NOW.....LOL I'll need to have a look when it arrives but I feel it will "look" better than what I currently have, as it comes with a PCV fitting, so I will be able to get rid of the alloy pipe that goes to the throttle body with the PCV fitting  Well, that's what the voices in my head are telling me  Oh, and this happened today Yeap, it was a Trojan, and it was cheap, so I headed back to the hardware store and actually spent a little bit more on a heavy duty,  one that was actually recommended by a plumber mate, a Cyclone one with a fibreglass handle that is actually rated for clay The broken shovel will eventually be "modified" into a short handle shovel
