So I've got a 2001 r34 GTR (series 2) non v-spec, I'm well aware that they come with no intake temp. sensor or exhaust temp. sensor fitted to the car. However I have read that many people have just fitted those sensors to their non v-specs and got them to work on the MFD. Here comes my problem:

There is no connector to plug into the intake temp. sensor? Can anyone confirm whether they got rid of the connector on the series 2 models? I thought I just couldn't find it but while I was installing my new NISMO intercooler (which came with a new sensor) there was nowhere for it to plug in to. The connector for the EGT is just tied up out of the way and is easy to find but I could not see anything for the intake temp, even with the intercooler off. 

It's so hard to find information on this topic as it seems everyone has a series 1 GTR

On series 1 cars, intake temp plug is part of the loom that also contains the horn and canister connector, it's normally tucked under the radiator support. Have a look under there, if not there then possibly series 2 loom is different to series 1.

To add some info to this thread, there is no connector on series 2 non vspec GTRs.

Although the wiring for the exhaust temp sensor and the bung is available to add the exhaust sensor, they've decided to remove the intake side all together.

It is possible to add it though, if anyone can confirm what colour wires are on the factory intake temp sensor circled in red, that will a good start.

The wiring diagram shows where that circuit is connected to the main loom which presumably does have the temp sensor wires.

If anyone is bored and have a multi meter, a pin out of which pins on the connector are for that sensor would be even better.

Got the same problem as you, wanted to install iat temp sensor reading to my series 2 non vspec BNR34 and havent the plug anywhere 

Did you solved in any way? Anyone got more info regarding this?

I think us series 2 owners are out of luck :( I've heard the plug is only there on some series 1 cars and it was removed from the series 2 cars. I never managed to find the plug on my car

Hey! didnt seen you quoted me until now, im sorry!

Bought a Nismo MFD and got an R34 S2 same as you without the iat plug, but i sourced the MFD pinout so you can test the wiring with a multimeter trying to found the wires for the iat and also you can wire it up all the way to the mfd

To the OP @oskiand want to give thanks for the help provided from @Purpleline from the Hong Kong Skyline club, aka R34 MFD in Facebook

I want to share the solution i did to the problem of R34 late model iat temp sensor connector for the MFD not being in place, its true

As some of you people know R34 GTR late model standard version does not come with the IAT and EGT sensors for the MFD, however there is the connector to install the EGT sensor on the harness but NOT the same with the IAT sensor, there aren't a connector for the IAT sensor in place to install the sensor, Nissan for some reason removed it from the harness on the late model standard R34 GTR.

Okay so already did some memory, lets try to explain what i found and what i did to solve the issue when i was working on installing an IAT for my MFD on my R34 GTR standard late model:

- First of all i removed the MFD and with a multimeter tried to follow the wire from pin 46 (IAT sensor) on the brown plug of the MFD, started on this because the wire its there so in some place the wire its being cutted or sealed

Firstly i thought that the wires for the IAT sensor will be sealed on the front harness near the radiator with the AC condenser plugs, so i start stripping the whole front harness with no luck, checked all the wires there and none was the pin 46 IAT and there weren't a sealed wire, sorry for the bad pic its a video screenshot but you get the idea

Okay so next step was to remove the cluster to check if the wire cuts on the mfd subharness on the rear of the cluster

Unfortunately with no luck as the wire 46 follow his way through the plug on the rear of the cluster, so next step was to strip the bottom fuse box on the right feet to check there for the wire and BINGO! i found the wire 46 on the big white plugs on the right feet near the gas pedal, the wire 46 does arrive there but cuts his way there doesn't follow his way through the harness to the sensor, i called it "cut point"

Marked in blue you can see the pin where the wire 46 does arrive, checked with the multimeter and there is continuity through the brown mfd plug to this point

As you can see, not the same on the other side of the plug, marked with the green circle you can see there aren't a pin in place and of course either a wire, so here you see, the "cut point" of the signal from pin 46 IAT sensor

What i did is very laborious but simple, took out the front right fender, took out the harness through the hole and stripped the whole harness until the sensor, put a pin in place of the big white plug with a wire attached and join it with the existing wires on the whole harness, very much electrical tape work but if you got some patience its not that hard just time consuming

With the whole harness already retaped, new wire covers and new clips, it looks like OEM! as how it should look from factory, too bad for Nissan that did that on the standard late model

The wire with the red colour and white stripe i used is the signal from MFD, the black with yellow stripe just join it with ground, also i used an OEM Nissan female plug that match the male plug on the sensor, and fabricated a support for the plug with the oem clip

Im sorry for my english it could not be perfect as im Spanish, i hope it could be of help for somebody with the same problem for it i thought to write and pic this reply

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain. 
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
