Hey, Has anyone seen the latest Mitsubishi Magna ad, where it compares the Ford Falcon XR6 Sedan, Mitsubishi Magna and Holden Commodore SS (I think, correct me if im wrong). This is stupid? Mitsubishi are comparing a car (Magna) which is All Wheel Drive, and with the intention of creating a Rally bred car, too two Rear Wheel Drive cars which are clearly not meant for rally. And then Mitsubishi say that the RWD cars will not last through the first corner...well they wern't bloody made for this purpose, maybe they should compare it to a All Wheel Drive rally bred car such as the Subaru WRX (even though this would be stupid marketing). I find this ad just plain stupid in all ways... Just my thought add what you want...

lol, its mitsubishi's marketing campaign, they are not trying to show that its a crap car... actually quite the opposite.

If they were trying to show how crap the magna is they would have this kinda ad:

Mitsubishi's new AWD magna was compared to the R34 Skyline GTR. According to our tests, the magna was completly blown away by the GTR... in fact the Skyline ate the magna, the skyline is truly a far more better car. Why buy out crappy magna when you can get an R34 GTR??

Jeez, what a smart advertising campaign that would be

Yeah but who would believe a Magna can take an XR6T and an SS in a straight line?

:bs!:

T.

watch the ad again, the SS and XR6 beat the magna to the corner :D

I think its a good ad. There's too many people in Australia that think the only performance cars are V8 and RWD. Hopefully Mitsubishi make some people think twice.

Also look at a GT-R that'll show them some AWD Performance. :D:rant:

The whole point is to market the product so that people will buy it, Mitsubishi are not going to make their product look bad if they want it to sell. They use the Commodore and Falcon because they're the main competitors and share the same target market as the Magna. So if a buyer was contemplating the idea of buying either of the 3, theyre hoping to make the buyer see an advantage in buying the Magna as opposed to the Commodore and Falcon. Why do you think Commodore ads and Falcon ads tend to make each themselves seem better than each other?

yeh your right.

its a stupid comparison. it doesn't apply to their target audience either.

how often to you go bush bashing in your family car.

plus I thought advertising the speed of cars was banned now?? I guess they advertising its cornerring though.

I Know i was just expressing that AWD cars and RWD cars shouldn't be compared in that way.

nobody, are you sure its an XR6T, i thought it was a normal XR6

It looks like an XR8 to me by looking at the bonnet..........would you think holden will end up making a comeback commercial comparing the Coupe4 (4WD) with the Magna (4WD)?........would be an interesting comparision on dirt road. (well it would be a better comparison 4WD vs 4WD, rather than 4WD vs 2WD)

i think the ad campaign mistubishi launched is a very good one, it shows the advantages of AWD cars while at the same time showing the disadvantages of RWD's... im not saying that the magna is a better car coz of its AWDness but its a well planned ad on mitsubishi's part

Why not? They are all sold as family sedans (or slightly upmarket versions of family sedans) at roughly the same price point.

The benefits of AWD are not just confined to the dirt track either, which is the point the ad makes. I think its a good ad personally, in fact I think whichever PR agency Mitsubishi uses makes some great ads.

LW.

I like the ad, well, except for the gay voice over by rally boy.

But yeah, it should be good, an SS and an xr6t on that dirt road? that'd be worse then a stock v6 and a stock xr6;) Trying to get power down, you'd end up bogged haha

Hopefully it does appeal to some of the older folk.. Hey, if its 4wd you still can't take a 90^ dirt corner at 120km/h haha.

Annnnnnd I've forgotten what else I was going to say. Oh, thats it, back in 99-00 I went for a cruise in a Magna, around 8 hours driving, decent overtaking power, nice aerodynamics, ie when a semi goes past the other way you don't get blown around as much.. Was a tidy car, the shapes changed though and it looks dodgy these days. But good on them.

    • I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA
    • The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way. Fuse box covers were painted blue, they're now satin black Another job on the list while the bumper was off, is to add some mesh https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737966256_99b28bfa30_c.jpg[/img] I was hoping to use some thin wire to secure it, but it seems I've misplaced it and the wire I had was too thick to twist easily. I ended up using cable ties for the time being https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131882_c2b7989dcc_c.jpg[/img] Was pleasant to see this https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54737131627_8b2aab13b3_c.jpg[/img] The last thing to do was to fix the front grill and re-mesh that to match but I ran out of time The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4FsF6tgizE&t=23s
