C.callander
Hey guys my 2003 vq25dd m35 stagea has got a miss/stutter when cold. Its starts like crap and hesitates and stutters when its cold but after about 10 mins of warming up it goes away and drives fine and start’s perfectly it also occasionally gets a engine cheek light. Any ideas on where to start looking Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/484672-m35-vq25dd-stuttersmissing/ Share on other sites

C.callander
Do you know the best program to read a vq i know they don’t respond to most obd2 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/484672-m35-vq25dd-stuttersmissing/#findComment-7979412 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
Is there not a way to short a pin in the diagnosis connector and get it to flash codes at you? I mean, I'm not about to go spend time googling it for an engine for which I have no care. But you can. Inxlusion
To get the codes without a obd2 reader you have to do a bit of a pedal dance. If you do a quick topic search you will find the procedure. this was the best link for the codes themselves that I found. C.callander
So read the ecu n got error 0340 camshaft sensor circuit, have since removed the intake to clean it and so i have more space to work. It seems im not getting and current from my ecu signal wire to the cam sensors any ideas on this? Inxlusion
Sounds like it's time for some new position sensors, from what I have heard they are a pretty common fault. (think there might have even been a recall on them) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/484672-m35-vq25dd-stuttersmissing/#findComment-7979506 Share on other sites

Nah, no ideas from me on that specific problem, but it sounds like Inxlusion thinks it's common enough to go down the swaptronics path. But what do you mean by "I tested my ECU current"? Cam sensors won't have a lot of current flow. Depending on what type of sensor you'll likely just have blips of voltage as the sense flags go past the sensor. You need an oscilloscope to see stuff like that. So on the 3 wires to the sensor there shold be 1 earth 1 12v ignition and a 4-5v from the ecu which when the sensor detects something it cuts it out which is how it knows when the cam is at, well thats the understanding i have of em. GTSBoy
If you google how to test a 3 wire cam sensor (or a hall effect sensor) you'll get videos and documents on it. You'll have to fish through these to find something that doesn't lead you astray. Ideally there is a section in your service manual for that engine that tells you what voltages and signals you're looking for. Can be done with a multimeter to an extent. A scope is better. You can buy a handheld LCD scope from Aliexpress for <$100. The sensor shouldn't pull much current, you'd be lucky to see much. The power supply to it is just to make it work. It switches the output on as the flag (some lump of metal on the cam, such as a lobe, or a dedicated flag) goes past the sensor. Not much current flows anywhere. The ECU is just looking for a voltage to turn up on the requisite terminal. Inxlusion
From the quick research I've been doing the P0340 only relates to the one side and P0345 is the other. (could be completely wrong) If they are easy-ish to get to you can always try swap the side to side and see if the same one persists, if it does the its wiring if it swaps its the sensor? MrStabby
IIRC (was a long time ago) - Yes the codes are different for each side, the parts are also different so you cant swap them. - from https://www.kudosmotorsports.com/catalog/electrical-ignition-fuel-c-21_69_809_810.html i got "1 x Cam Angle Sensor, Left Hand Bank to suit Nissan 350Z Z33 Series 1, Skyline V35 250GT / 300GT / 350GT & Stagea M35 250T / AR-X FOUR" and that's the easy side. Cant remember which code it was, but if you search here you may find it.
