Got my clutch fitted today

The mechanic put the fear of all hell into me...saying to drive like a granny for 1000km's...no down gearing, no slipping nothing...otherwise ill be back in here in 2 weeks fitting another one in!

i was like wtf...drive like granny for 1000kms?

so my question is...is the above bs?!?!? should i drive like a granny for 1000km's?

I was crawling around the roads tryin not to slip it or downgear, he said i cant rev over 3000rpm rofl...he gave me a 1 year warrantee on this clutch..is he just scared for his own sake?

He said it needs to wear in for 1000km's rofl...its just a exedy heavy duty clutch with organic plate.

are you running the same clutch? i really cbf driving like i was before for 1000km's...its a joke...ud think theyd make the clutches heavy duty so u can drive em normally from the very start

1000km's is a bit excessive...

Previously in other cars i have had the same clutch. All you need to do is drive without dumping the clutch, riding it, or downshifting from huge revs (downshifting from about 3,000 should be the highest that you should)

this will let the clutch and pressure plate bed in and not cause uneven wear on the flywheel as well.

i will be running my new clutch (also a Daiken HD) for 1,000 but that is only cause I am running the engine in at the same time and as such cannot go past 3,000rpm...

We purchased the clutch and fitted it our selves, Extra heavy duty, paddle clutch, With standard Fly Wheel.

And after installing it we were full noise testing it out. With 4000rpm launches.

Worked well and haven’t had any problems with slipping, and that was 1 year ago.

I think the only reason why he wants you to baby it, is if it fails, he can say it came under the warranty guide lines of installation eg, 1000km of running it in.

Ill still baby it to around 500kms then hammer the living **** out of it lol

Are their any other exedy heavy duty owners out their?!?!? common surely u are all using the daikin heavy duty or exedy...i need some more feedback lol

just bought an exedy button clutch for my r32 GTR but yet to install it. I bought the clutch straight from exedy in Sydney which is at eastern creek. I have a family friend that works there and has been in the clutch business for many years. His advice to me was to go easy on the clutch for about 500km's otherwise it will glaze up and need to come out again.

This though I believe only applies to button clutches and not full face clutch's which in my opinion should be pretty rite from the get go , wouldn't hurt to go easy on it though for a couple of hundred km's I guess. I know I'll be going easy on mine for awhile just to be on the safe side.

It is NOT the type of clutch that matters, but the materials used.

Would you install brake pads and not bed them in (unless like the EBC they come pre-bedded)...cause they are organic and glaze up.

Same with an organic clutch which is what the Exedy HD is...

Composite clutches will also have a similar problem, Brass button clutches are about the only ones you should bed in for a short period.

    • HFM BM57 has a "bad" knee point, IIRC. It's not the same thing as the later R chassis MC.
    • The ATTESSA is functionally identical to R34; there were a bunch of JDM models that continued ATTESSA including Fuga/Q70, Skyline/Q50, Cima etc as an option. All with Auto only and I think mostly for snow regions. AFAIK there were no AWD VR30DDTT sold in Australia - it is on my to do list to check regs for racing a LHD car in Targa/ATR/AASA/CAMS events because if I can get the auto to work it would be interesting to run a 4wd car The Ecuteck TCM tuning is the same model as their ECU tuning, they already have it for R35 and Dose's favourite, BMW. You buy "points" to allow your computer to be tuned, buy either a bluetooth (phone app) or bluetooth+USB+Key (phone and PC) dongle, and pay for a tune that will be locked to your tuner ( ). You can also access the tuning software yourself but 1. it is mega expensive and 2. these computers have a billion parameters that intersect, so how could you ever spend enough time on it to get a decent result.
